Bolton and Others Blast Obama‘s ’Absorb a Terrorist Attack’ Quip

Bob Woodward’s new book Obama’s Wars includes a new revelation about the president’s outlook on domestic terrorism — and some aren’t too happy about it.

As the Washington Post reports today, the president sat down with Woodward in July and discussed his views on another terrorist attack in the U.S.:

Woodward’s book portrays Obama and the White House as barraged by warnings about the threat of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil and confronted with the difficulty in preventing them. During an interview with Woodward in July, the president said: “We can absorb a terrorist attack. We’ll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever . . . we absorbed it and we are stronger.”

That quote isn’t sitting well with some, including former UN Ambassador John Bolton. Appearing on “Fox and Friends” this morning, Bolton blasted the president for the statement and said the comment proves Obama may not be fit to be commander-in-chief:

First Things blogger Warner Todd Huston is baffled by the statement considering the president’s actions. He says Obama hasn’t done anything to make sure the U.S. can absorb another attack:

In fact Obama has done his level best to make us more vulnerable. From reducing the threat status, to eliminating intelligence programs that were getting results, to simply sending drones to wipe out terrorists (that then take any actionable intelligence to the gave), even to making a mockery of our strength by using childish euphemisms such as “overseas contingency operations,” Obama has taken America off its security footings.

Ace of Spades blogger “Ace” believes that the comment represents an underlying leftist belief that “we’re just going to have to be mature about mass murder.” [Emphasis his] He adds:

But the left is pushing this idea that we can safely “absorb” many new 9/11′s with an eye towards getting us to “accept” the greater bargain they fatuously offer — peace, and a general wind-down of post-9/11 security “overreactions” like the FBI tracking Muslims suspected of terrorist ties. If only we didn’t overreact to the occasional mass-murder, we could go about our business without war, without increased security measures, without “Islamophobia,” without the rest of it. [Emphasis his]*

Meanwhile, the New York Times reports that Woodward’s book also portrays a disjointed, backstabbing, and divided war staff that could not agree on a plan for the war in Afghanistan.

For example, Vice President Joe Biden detested the president’s special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke, calling him “the most egotistical bastard I’ve ever met.” And new Afghanistan War General David Petraeus abhorred dealing with the president’s senior adviser David Axelrod because he was “a complete spin doctor.”

The Times article may also show that the deadline the president recently set for withdrawal in Afghanistan may have been a political move meant to appease Democrats. While discussing the decision with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, Obama is reported to have said that he has to stick to the deadline because “I can’t let this be a war without end, and I can’t lose the whole Democratic Party.”

Scrambling to do damage control, the White House responded this morning by trying to downplay the reports as war-time sausage making:

Obama’s Wars is due out September 27.

      Deacon, Bob can’t help but feel the way he does, Marines are trained to fight when confronted by an enemy. Just because this enemy comes from within doesn’t make it less of a threat.       I agree, he does appease the enemy too often. If even by not properly protecting our borders. At minimum, he’s definitely a suck-up — between bowing & not having our UN Reps walk out during Iran‘s President’s A. speech (sorry, can’t spell his name.) like Canada did. No any clear-minded American doubts that he’s “a clear and present danger to our Republic” in more ways than one. Unfortunately, for us, he’s an American by birth, but not in his heart & head. I am going to read up on both impeachment & treason to see if anything he’s done qualifies for either; not that if it did, Congress would take an action.

      Appease the enemy? Like George W Bush did. when the day after sept. 11th He let the Bin Laden family fly out of the country. Or that Prince Bandar of the Saudi Royal family is personal friends of the Bushies and 9 of the hijackers on 9-11 were suadi’s. Or the fact that after sept. 11. Bush closed the Base we won the rights to build in saudi arabia after the first gulf war. And that was one of the main reasons we were attacked on 9-11.       Obviously, Obama, Reid, Pelosi, the Kennedy clan, and any of the other eliteist bunch that the American people have given kingship to! The citizens of America are nothing but expendable pawns in the great power play in Washington. Obama let the real truth slip out.

      Furthermore, he seems to be issuing a veiled invitation to anyone who wants to attack us to come on ahead. That way, if the attacks are widespread or destructive enough, he can justify implementing Martial Law, dispensing with the Constitution, disbanding the House and the Senate and taking absolute power for himself. This has always been the dream of Saul Alinsky, Cloward and Piven, The SDS and every other radical leftist organization that Obama worships.

      Our only hope is in NOVEMBER 2nd 2010. If we don’t correct the situation now, it will be too late!

      Many Blacks have already traded their freedom for a “check”. They are willing to live in filthy, drug infested neighborhoods just so they can be on the dole. When I see third generation welfare recipients I know the government has enslaved these people as surely as any slave master of yore.
      The old slave master knew the key was to deny education. The welfare recipients for the most part have aided the government by down playing education as a goal and substituted young girls achieving womanhood status by having a bastard child to qualify for a check or glorifying drug dealers and pimps. Until education is more important than 20 inch wheels and “bling” they shall be forever enslaved.
      The pity is they look to those that benefit from their enslavement as their saviors!
      I pray that they will someday realize they are being duped, but I know by mentioning it I can expect to be called a racist.

      The President of the United States is sworn to protect us. “Absorbing” an attack means thousands of dead Americans.

      A President whose policy is “America can absorb an attack” is derelict in his duty. Leaving aside the fact that this notion demonstrates a level of contempt for life in general, and American life in partiuclar, that approaches psychopathic. Clearly, Obama has no conscience, no respect for life, no love for the people he is sworn to protect.

      What distinguishes him from Mao, Stalin, Hitler, or Castro in this regard?

      Sorry, but I cannot buy your explanation about what he said. I remember General McCrystal saying that he had ten minutes with him and he seemed detached, not with him. I think Obama is a cold person who does not feel like normal people feel. He thinks he has a destiny to make the world all the same under one world government, economy and any kind of religion will do. Sounds very much like biblical prophecy of the tribulation. I’m not saying he is that one that is to come and make one miserable world during that time, but he certainly is helping to set the stage.

I remember Bush saying, it was his business to protect the American people and he did that after 9/11 I do not feel safe with this president. To say that we could absorb another attack, well does he mean like at Ft Hood or another 9/ll. Neither is acceptable. Oh what a mess those that voted for him created for our nation. He had a chance to be a beloved president but he is not lovable the way things are now. He will get, I hope, what he deserves in history as a destroyer of our nation and a divider of our nation.       I’m really starting to wonder if he is hoping that we suffer a serious terrorist attack soon. If would give him a reason to turn the switch and start up the socialist machine that has been being constructed since the infrastructure is already in place. He just needs a reason to pull the trigger. That would do it would it not?

      Obama is so alright if a few thousand are killed in 9/11. I bet he doesn’t care if a few million must be sacrificed to fundamentally transform his country. I totally agree with Freelancer. Just don’t know if “they” are completely ready yet for the final episode, but those 800 highly secretive FEMA prisons [concentration camps] across the US sure are ready to hold millions of Americans who fight the final takeover…

      I am stunned by the inability of the President to absorb the full meaning of the 9/11 attacks. Because of those attacks, we began a war on terror (words he cannot say) that resulted in free elections in Afghanistan, and however shaky and corrupt, a new government there. We toppled Saddam Hussein and his two evil sons, destroying a haven of terrorists and eliminating Iraq’s financial support of terror, and freeing 50 million Iraqis. More American lives have been lost fighting the terrorists since 9/11 than were lost on that day. Obama plainly does not get it.

      I fight feelings of despair every time I hear things like this. How will we survive with leaders who have this kind of attitude? Just heard that a woman was told at the polls that she couldn’t vote because she was wearing a Tea Party shirt that said to support the Constitution. Feeling kinda low right now.

      President Obama speaks of us absorbing an attack – what kind? The Nuclear Bomb wiping out a major city type? Several large car bombs all at once? This President is out of touch with reality if he thinks that us “absorbing” attacks will keep or lead to “Peace” where it will only encourage more of the same, or greater attacks.

      Remeber, terrorists only understand one thing will keep them in check, it is their fear of the overwhelming response that comes back to their roost. It is their fear of the applacation of force against them (not the fear of force itself) that will keep them in check. And for the few who do not get it, they soon enough will after a single attack by them.

      this quote is bad but if you read the book you’ll get sick— he wanted out of the afghanistan in the worse way– it was our military that stood up for us— patreaus at the head — this is why mcchristal bailed out— he knew that in a power struggle over war policy obamarama would lose to the general— what mcchristal did was brilliant and brave– a true american hero— totally unsung

      QUESTION BOLDLY !! Don’t let others determine what your questions can be. Question EVERYTHING even your leaders. There is an old saying “Beware the crusader”. Whoever is leading a crusade deserves scrutiny. Questions that deserve answers are: Why did the justice dept. drop the lawsuits against the Saudi Govt. just a week before Ohmamma’s visit to the king? Why hasn’t the FBI formally charged UBL with the crime of 9/11? Check their top ten most wanted if you don’t believe me. Why were the Bin Laden family members the only ones allowed to fly out of the country after 9/11? What happened to WTC 7? Google it.

      So we can “absorb” another terrorist attack? What does this say about our young troops in the Middle East and the American people here in America? How can our Commander-in-Chief possibly speak so glibly about our very lives?

      Worse, President Obama is not doing everything he can to “prevent” a terrorist attack… In fact, it appears to be quite the to opposite. This President refuses to secure our wide-open borders, refuses to enforce all of our immigration laws, sues the state of Arizona simply for trying to do the job he won’t do – protecting the safety and security of its citizens, and pushes for mass amnesty for millions of illegal aliens – mostly from Mexico but OTM’s as well (Other Than Mexican)… Possible terrorists?

      Secure borders? Common sense? The rule of law? Heck, No! Opening our borders, leveling the playing field, and leading to a “global society” is what this is all about… At all costs.

      TRIVIALIZE is an EXCELLENT DISCRIPTION WORD. Have you heard other comment’s made by our President Barack H. Obama? If you followed him throughout the Campaign (which I have) many words used by our President seem to be of a condescending nature; he is a natural it is in his character and body language to seem verse these type of words and an attitude.
