Muslim Radicals Suspected: Bombing Wounds 11 at Christmas Mass in Philippines

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A bomb exploded during Christmas Day Mass at a chapel inside a police camp in the volatile southern Philippines, wounding a priest and 10 churchgoers.

The device was hidden in a ventilation window near the ceiling of the chapel, which is on the compound where the provincial police office is located in Jolo town on Jolo Island, Sulu provincial police said.

The island is a stronghold of al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf militants, but it wasn’t clear who was responsible for the bombing. Investigators recovered parts of a cell phone they believe detonated the device.

All of the wounded were civilians. One woman remained at a hospital for observation later Saturday, but police said one did not need hospital treatment and the others have been treated and sent home.

The Rev. Romeo Villanueva, 72, said a newly ordained priest, the Rev. Ricky Bacoldol, who was assisting him, was thrown off his feet by the blast impact and suffered a slight leg injury.

“I was reading the Gospel. I was not yet finished when there was a loud explosion,” Villanueva told The Associated Press by telephone.

The roof over the front of the church collapsed and wooden beams and other debris flew in all directions. A portion of the ceiling shielded the organist from the blast, Villanueva said.

About 50 people were inside the church but many more were arriving at the time, he said.

President Benigno Aquino III’s spokesman, Edwin Lacierda, said the bombing “violates the basic tenets of respect and peace of all who hold their faith dear.” He said there could be no religious or political justification for the attack.

The Philippines is predominantly Catholic, but Christians are a minority on Jolo and nearby island provinces that are majority Muslim.

A bombing at the main Jolo cathedral last year killed two churchgoers, and the cathedral has been attacked in the past with grenades. The Abu Sayyaf, notorious for high-profile kidnappings and beheadings, has been blamed for those attacks.

The military estimates that battle setbacks, arrests and surrenders have reduced the group’s strength to more than 300 from more than 1,000 guerrillas during its heyday in 2000.

The Abu Sayyaf is on a U.S. list of terrorist organizations and is suspected of having received funds and training from al-Qaida.

ok,may god forgive me but, this has gone WAY too far. We as Christians are called to love each other and to love God. Even Mohammed gave Christians and Jews some respect as we were from “the book”. So why the heck do these murderers, killers and radicals get away with saying this is done in the name of Mohammed? More to the point (even though I hate to say it) why isnt the world doing more to neutralize this activity? it is well within most developed nations power to enact some very volitile and efficient means of sanctions and punishment because it seems to me that this is the only thing that these people understand. And yes I said “these” as a broad brush for a minority to all you PC freaks out there who have ruined almost every belief system in the civilized world. To be extremely frank it p*&S(ES me off the a comparitivly few people (radicals) can disrupt such a large population of the world.

People, do not look for peaceful resolution. For the world of man knows nothing of peace. Peace is with your lord and savior Jesus Christ. Fret not about this world for it is a fleeting moment in the respect of eternity. Your time in this world of man is better served by sharing the word if Jesus…Than responding to hate and evil.

Islam is a totalitarian socio-political system that has intended to destroy everything that is not Islam for 1388 years.

Read the very bad literature called the Quran and at least the relevant parts of the Sunna and you should be able to deduce that Allah is space debris and Muhammad was (or at least became) a murderously insane rapist whose crimes were covered by ‘revelations’ whether real or imagined. Islam has caused more human suffering than Marxism; and that is an impressive accomplishment of evil.

I suppose many will now invoke Timothy McVey, who never mentioned any religiosity, or violence in the Bible which is irrelevent to the historical mayhem of Islam and does not contain a standing order to commit rape, torture, enslavement and every imaginable sort of violence against the rest of the world.

It is the most noble part of man that desires freedom of conscience and rebels against compulsion of belief. Whatever convinces any man that he has the authority to force ideas, even good ones, on another can only be from an evil source.

I want to hear a statement from our president condemning these murders of Christians. I want to hear the lamestream media scream about the persecution of Christians here. They are not just being criticized for their choice of a church site. They are not being unfairly lumped in with the radicals of their religion. They are being MURDERED, and yet I don’t hear the liberals screaming about the intolerance of Muslims. It makes me ill.

What good is to scream about injustices? Just words!. There is too much talk and no action.

It’s like lighting candles to mark the spot of a traffic death, what good does that do? People hang notes and flowers on a fence to mark the spot of someone dieing there. Useless sentiment. To fight injustice means you have to get your hands dirty. There is too much talk and so little action.

Its odd how the Obamanation and the liberals around the globe want us to turn our backs on Christian theology, while at the same time, they defend Muslims and their right to worship Islam. Hum… so I guess if Christians started strapping bombs to children and sending them off to blow up school buses, subways, planes, and people in parks, restaurants, night clubs, and sporting events then liberals might begin to embrace Jesus.

How to sort the good from the bad????
The answer is simple, not very PC but simple. You eradicate islam!!! You don’t try to sort them out. I am tired of hearing the moderate/extremist argument. Muslim is NOT a race it is an ideology some call a religion. If you belong to this “religion” you are the enemy!!! Islam follows a sick evil doctrine. So called “moderate muslims” are guilty by association. If they did not believe in this sick doctrine they would not be part of Islam. If someone is a member of the KKK, you would naturally assume he is a white supremacist. If someone was part of Green Peace you would assume they were a tree hugger. If someone was part of the Jewish Women’s League you would naturally assume the were both female and Jewish. Now how is it that you can claim that someone is muslim but doesn’t agree with teaching of Islam. COME ON PEOPLE. If you were on a battlefield a soldier of the opposing army is the ENEMY. The idea of “moderate” and “extreme” muslims is about as ridiculous as an American soldier in WWII interviewing the german soldier to see how Nazi-ish he was. He was the enemy by association….END OF STORY.
