‘Bombshell’ Charge: DOJ Whistleblower Says Liberal FOIA Requests Get VIP Treatment

Attorney General Eric Holder and the Obama administration’s Justice Department have come under fire in the past for allegedly letting politics tip the balance of Justice. Specifically, J. Christian Adams, a former DOJ official, made news last year when he publicly accused the agency of racial bias in handling the 2008 election voter intimidation case involving the New Black Panther Party.

On Thursday, Adams leveled more accusations at Holder’s Justice Department, claiming its compliance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) had been politicized. According to documents obtained by Adams, FOIA requests from liberals or other politically connected civil rights groups are often given same-day attention by the DOJ, while requests from conservatives or Republican-affiliated groups face long delays or are ignored altogether.

The documents show a pattern of politicized compliance within the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division. In particular, I have obtained FOIA logs that demonstrate as of August 2010, the most transparent administration in history is anything but. The logs provide the index number of the information request, the date of the request, the requestor, and the date of compliance.

For example, Republican election attorney Chris Ashby of LeClair Ryan made a request for the records of five submissions made under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. Ashby waited nearly eight months for a response. Afterwards, Susan Somach of the “Georgia Coalition for the Peoples’ Agenda,” a group headed by Rev. Joseph Lowery, made requests for 23 of the same type of records. While Ashby waited many months for five records, Somach waited only 20 days for 23 records.

Under the Obama DOJ, FOIA requests from conservative media never obtained any response from the Civil Rights Division, while National Public Radio obtained a response in five days.

Adams points to specific cases in the past to support his argument:

In 2006, Charlie Savage, then at the not-yet-insolvent Boston Globe, requested all of the resumes of the recently hired attorneys in the Bush Civil Rights Division — including mine. DOJ leadership was convinced rushing out the resumes of dozens of lawyers far before the deadline was a good thing. …

In spring of 2010, Pajamas Media requested the exact same information from the DOJ that Charlie Savage requested in 2006 — except for hires made in the Obama DOJ. Recall the Bush administration turned over all the resumes of attorneys as fast as they could, and well before the statutory FOIA deadline.

PJM’s request was ignored. Then on October 13, 2010, the request was renewed by certified mail. Still, no response as required by law.

Last month, the Pajamas Media group finally filed suit in U.S. District Court to obtain the records from the Justice Department.

“The data in the FOIA logs I obtained reveal the priorities of the Civil Rights Division — transparency for friends, stonewalls for the unfriendly,” Adams wrote Thursday.

Politicized compliance with FOIA might be an administration-wide pattern. The revelation that the Obama Department of Homeland Security has politicized the FOIA process may be just the tip of the iceberg.

If so, what should we make of patterns of lawless noncompliance with the FOIA? If nothing else, it exposes the rank hypocrisy of those heady days in 2008 when transparency was a campaign promise. In the worst case, we have an administration willing to violate the law to conceal details about their governance.

    Well I can not say that I am surprised. We need to be paying attention right now to see how the progressives are using the “CRISIS” in Egypt to sneek things through while we are not looking. We have stay clear headed and follow the red flags. They might think that they are hidden but I am sure that they are there.The whisle blower just revealed a small portion of their devious web of lies. It is up to us to keep exposing them. Every little bit gets us a little closer. Beck has been awesome this week. I hope everyone has been watching.

His administration has some overt racism in it: the justice dept. that is “not in business” to do cases where a white person’s civil rights have been infringed on.

    Obama was elected by virtually all media outlets (except fox) that cheer leaded for him daily AND a lot of crooked publications printing non stop glory stories on him, while vilifying any one that ran against him. PLUS a lot of uninformed Americans that voted for him!! Young AND old. SAD, very sad. The scary thing is,Obama can get elected again. I have no confidence in most Americans to make sound decisions. Sorry to say.

      Yeah, even those who are still waiting for OBAMA STASH monies will re-elect him, and that is what they are counting on. But the rest of us have to put a candidate out there that is a real competition for him and so far, I haven’t seen much competition. I don’t thing that Newt, Romney, Paul, Huckabee, Palin, Pawlenty, Barber, Bachmann, or any of the others can beat him based on what I have seen from them so far. I hate to say it, but Donald Trump is the only one smart enough or shrewd enough to maybe pull it off. I think it would be a joke in a sense, but I also think he might even do it. He has the money, the smarts, the message, and he might even be able to do it. What do some of the rest of you think??? Fox News tonight during Hannity, which I really don’t normally watch him..sounded awfully positive about Donald Trump and his business smarts and his global understanding…

      This regime will go down in history as the most corrupt. It’s only benefit will be to provide examples of what NOT to do, and what to look for in the future…if we survive this orchestrated attack on our way of life.
      As for FDR, and what he had planned for the country after WWII, we’re all very lucky that he died when he did. His “New Deal II” which Truman pushed hard to impliment, would have dropped the country right back into a depression which would have taken us into the 60′s!

    I fear we have elected a bunch of Chicago gangsters…It isn’t the LAW, it is how can we get around the law. It is a plan folks, they have been working on this for 30 years, just waiting for a chance to implement their ideals. The young people today are being indoctrinated in the schools, and the time is going to come when us old Patriots, and Patriotic people will be dead and gone or so few in numbers that they will get their way. I so much worry for my grand children…except that I do not think they will have to deal with it. I truly believe that it is getting closer and closer to the time the Lord will come and it will sure enough be a NEW WORLD ORDER and CHANGE we can believe in.

      I believe in miracles too, but that is about what it will take to get us out of this mess that we have all allowed to be created. To bad we didn’t see it coming 40 years ago when I was in the “flower child” age…I was never a “flower child”, but that is at the very least when all this mess started, or more likely what Glenn says, all the way back to Woodrow Wilson…but I wasn’t around here at that time. So happy that we all have this format to post our views though. Thank God for the Patriots who keep on keeping on.

      30 years? Reality check. It’s been in the works for far longer than 30 years. Try over 100. What you are have been seeing for the last 30 years is the fruits of that plan beginning to blossom and approaching the point of ripening. The roots are deep, spread wide, and for the most part still hidden. Glenn has exposed a lot of those roots, but he focuses way too much on George Soros. There’s a lot more involved in this than George. George is the front man, the lap dog, of the real menace. Do some research on the Rothschilds. Then you’ll begin to understand.       I also think it is important I am glad we have “whistle blowers” so we do know what is happening. It is a shame we have to have them, they should be following the “Law” in the first place. I for one would like to see charges brought against HOLDER, he is a crooked piece of crap.

      Hell yes its news, we have every right to be informed as to what is happening in our Government and the more information we are getting on this administration the stronger the case for impeachment is becoming. I am growing well beyond weary of the way this administration continues to totally disregard the rule of law and totally mocking the American people. How many times do we need to be poked in the eye by them before we stand up and demand accountability? Does this meet the test of high crimes and misdemeanors? The President is the one who is ultimately responsible he appoints these people and their crimes are his crimes.

      Corrupt? Yes. Surprising? No. Get a hold of your Congressmen, let them know you want answers. We have the House and that’s it for now. There is SO MUCH damage that can be done in the next year and a half! Call and DEMAND you talk to your State representative, and make it be known, “you root out this evil and anti-American Executive branch, or you be gone”.
      I don’t have that problem, I live in Mike Pence’s district, and his office is EPIC in resolving the issues of his constituents. Just ask several members of my family who have had issues ane his offices “got-er-done”
      Incidentally, WHY aren’t you running for President, Mr. Pence? WHY??????

      This whole regine needs to be exposed and run out of town!

      I’m getting more direct with my Congressmen in my questions about them, the regulators, policy, and the variances from business as usual. And, I’m asking what are they going to do about it and/or what should We the People do about it. I’ll just tell you–I am sick and danged tired of this crap!!!

      Obama told us who he was in the run-up to the election. What he said with regards to redistributive change; “the courts didn’t go far enough”, or “the Constitution is a ‘living doc”……or, “people cling to their guns and bibles”…….who he was friends with; Wright ‘the KKK of A”, or however he phrased it……….Michelle “for the first time I‘m proud to say i’m an American”, or whatever nonsense she spewed………who he appointed, Holder, Sunstein, Napolitano, Emanuel, Geithner, all the “Czars”.
      I’ve had it with this un-American liar! He is a racist, pure and simple. He is a socialist. I am infuriated that he took (and I mean, he was behind it) no action against the NBP Party in Phila. Do you realize the stink that would have been made if white’s had held clubs at a polling booth?

      With all due respect Chicago Ray, I‘m a direct descendent of slaves and I haven’t seen a dime of reparation. Not that they could even pay it at this point without going into further debt to the Federal Reserve shareholders and China.

      Just because a lot of black people voted for Obama, doesn’t mean they voted for the same reason, seeing as how WHITE PEOPLE got Obama elected, because they were the majority who voted for him.

      Just because Beck and others play those couple of clips of imbeciles stating that they wanted some “Obama Money”, doesn’t mean all black people are that stupid or even came close to expecting what the people in these interviews expected.

      As others here have done, pleaase write your congressmen! We all need to be demanding a congressional investigation and hold Eric Holder accountable for his policies. When the DoJ willfully refuses to abide by the law, it’s time for a change immediately. Without access to FOIA documents, investigations into other departments will be difficult to say the least, as most will not release information willfully. Corruption at the DoJ will hinder the exposure of what this adminstration has really been up to the last two years.
