Bottled Water Industry Responds to College Student Activists Seeking Ban

With places like the Grand Canyon National Park banning sale of plastic water bottles, environmental activists on college campuses are seeking to do the same. But the bottled water industry isn’t taking this affront lightly.
It has a message for activists turning their own arguments against them.
NPR reports that the International Bottled Water Association launched a video against the “misinformation” presented by the activists. Some of the messages include that bottled water has “less of a carbon footprint”, the lowest “water footprint” and less plastic compared to other packaged drinks.
Watch the video:
Taking the stance of promoting freedom of choice, the IBWA president Joe Doss says that it’s not an issue of whether bottled or tap is better but that both options should be available, NPR reports:
[...] the IBWA video suggests the cause is unworthy of students’ energy – instead, perhaps they could focus on genocide in Darfur. It claims bottled water is a good alternative to sugary beverages and easier to recycle than other packaged drinks. The IBWA also argues bottled water is safer than tap water.
Still activists argue that the choice for bottled water would still be available: off campus.
According to NPR, through the “Think Outside the Bottle” campaign, more than 20 schools nationwide have instituted either a whole or partial ban on water bottle sales.

Posted on February 14, 2012 at 9:48amKADAMS do some homework or better yet let me educate you – There is no connection between PET plastic (which is the plastic that makes single serve water bottles) and BPA. BPA is not used in the production of PET material, nor is it used as a chemical building block for any of the materials used in the manufacture of PET (which stands for Polyethylene terephthalate). They are BPA free.

If you ban bottled water, the company that sells it needs to downsize or goes out of business altogether. Everyone loses their job… accountants, managers, distribution, manufacturing, marketeers, lawyers, …. the list goes on. Shows you what crap they teach students about economics in College. From where my room is, the closest water fountain is two floors down (you must take the stairs because the elevators don’t go to every floor) and across a catwalk between the two towers. Posted on February 13, 2012 at 10:25pmI just got this from a “like minded” friend and it seems appropriate for this topic. Regrets if you’ve heard it before. Otherwise … enjoy!
> A woman from Los Angeles who was a tree hugger, a liberal Democrat, and an anti-hunter, purchased a piece of timberland near Colville, WA.
> >
> > There was a large tree on one of the highest points in the tract. She wanted a good view of the natural splendor of her land so she started to climb the big tree.
As she neared the top she encountered a spotted owl that attacked her. In her haste to escape, the woman slid down the tree to the ground and got many splinters in her crotch.
> >
> > In considerable pain, she hurried to a local ER to see a doctor. She told him she was an environmentalist, a democrat, and an anti-hunter and how she came to get all the splinters.
The doctor listened to her story with great patience and then told her to go wait in the examining room and he would see if he could help her.
> >
> > She sat and waited three hours before the doctor reappeared. The angry woman demanded, “What took you so long?” He smiled and then told her,
“Well, I had to get permits from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management before I could remove old-growth timber from a
“recreational area” so close to a waste treatment facility. I’m sorry, but due to Obama Care they turned me down.”

Posted on February 14, 2012 at 12:18pmWe buy the 12oz bottles of water every other week. In between times, I wash and refill those same bottles from our Reverse Osmosis system we built into our tap water system. R. O. systems remove just about everything from tap water that one may not want. It also makes the water taste better (living in the midwest, the water here is nasty tasting). We change out the bottles every other week with new ones. Works for us. Oh, and if the Nanny‘s decide we can’t have bottled water anymore. I’ll just use a glass canning jar to transport my water. Just have to be more careful and not drop the suckers.

Posted on February 15, 2012 at 9:21amThat is correct, the early settlers did try socialism. And, they nearly starved because not everyone worked hard. Posted on February 14, 2012 at 5:14amThere is more going on here then meets the eye. Glenn had on Rabbi Lapin on the Feb 2 GBTV program. Rabbi Lapin said that recycling is one of the sacraments to the god the OWS types, human secularists, athiests and hippies worship! BAAL. The Baal is the evil pre-biblical diety that has several manifestations all of them evil aimed at the total destruction of civilization and institution of chaos and anarchy, forces of sexual deviancy, god that is involved in weather, commerce, worship of the earth, involved with bodily eminations. The god of those who believe we came from primodial slime and that is what we will return. Very enlightening hour on a very ancient evil that is manifesting in the most unlikely ways yet when you give the good Rabbi the time he will connect the dots of OWS, islam, the earth worshippers, perversion, hippies, secular humanists and more…Anyone who has not seen this program would do well to watch it and get an all encompasing spiritual perspective that ties together all the manifestations of disparate darkness we are experiencing and what needs to happen to combat this.

Posted on February 15, 2012 at 1:16amTo objectivetruth I am not talking about reusing things, I am talking about a radical agenda, which makes the earth more important then the people. The types who believe a rat baby is just as important as a human baby (radical animal rights types), I am talking about those who are pushing an earth first radical, climate change (can’t even call it global warming now that has been discredited and now they say its global cooling), guya worship agenda. I am talking about what has happened to this country and society from the Woodstock generation through Altamont to OWS Today. It’s all connected. Watch the good Rabbi lay it all out and then come back and make comments if you still disagree. I can’t put in one paragraph what it took him and hour to do justice to. He explained it as the difference between looking at a photograph (a single moment in time which tells you nothing of what came before or after) or a movie which gives you the context of that single frame. He was not saying we are not to be good stewards of the planet, of course we are, but we are not to WORSHIP it. Those that push the radical agenda do just that, those that believe we came from primordial slime and that we evolved basically to soulless thinking self aware baboons that will return to that same slime, those that hate the concept of a Judeo Christian civilization… much more then recycling going on here…check it out before you judge

Posted on February 13, 2012 at 11:04pmTalk about idiots buying water, the most common element on the planet. Water has nothing in it other than the possiblity of trace minerals, and if you look, some actually have trace amounts of chlorine, a preservative (yes, I have read that on bottles before), so figure it out. it is rediculously priced, and if it isn’t safe out of the tap or drinking fountain, I would rather have something with some calories. Don’t care for the HFCS corn starch sugar, but it sure does more for the body than water, which zero in it. In fact, the bottle itself costs more than the water it contains, so you want to talk about ripping people off on price margins, think about it.
