(The Blaze/AP) A Colorado man who was killed when a 3-foot tree branch flew through his windshield and impaled him in the chest was able to steer the car to safety before losing consciousness.
The wife of 61-year-old James Baker-Jarvis told the Daily Camera that her husband was able to pull over to the roadside, saving her from any injury. Baker-Jarvis died later at a hospital.
“He loved to be outside,” Karen Baker-Jarvis said. “He was kind of a mountain man. He loved his theoretical work, but sometimes when he needed to wind down he would go into the mountains.”
Saturday’s incident north of Boulder came as high winds swept through the Northern Rockies, forcing shutdowns along long stretches of highways and causing some 19,000 power failures throughout Colorado.
In Wyoming, two people were injured Saturday when debris blew off the roof of a Cheyenne Sam’s Club store. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports that at least five other people were treated for wind-related injuries.

Posted on January 3, 2012 at 4:15pmThis happened a few miles from us on a road that I have driven on hundreds of times. We were also out driving around that day and had been buffeted by some really intense gusts… it seems an utterly incredible story, yet it *is* also believable…
For people who don’t live in this area, you can’t imagine the winds we get in this area. That day the winds topped out in Boulder county at 99 mph and hit a high in the mountains of 121 mph. These types of winds happen here regularly and can turn the most benign object into a deadly projectile.
My prayers go out to this woman who was thrust into a nightmarish situation by nature’s extremes.

Posted on January 2, 2012 at 5:55pmWe have to stop growing trees until we can get to the bottom of this, and I can find out who’s ass to kick.
Do trees and forests grow without EPA permission, and without first filing environmental impact statements? If so, we need to round them up and punish them.
I even hear rumor that some plants are manufacturing illegal substances without FDA approval.
Eh, nevermind, let’s just halt the manufacturing of all windshields and automobiles until we can figure out how this happened. We can all be back on the road in a couple of years. The road’s will still be there.

Posted on January 2, 2012 at 2:46pmI hope if such a thing ever happens to me- that I have the same prescence of mind and gumption to make sure I steer the car safely out of way before I die. Real man there. Sorry for the wife – my condolences – but you married a “good, real man” and should be proud.

Posted on January 2, 2012 at 1:03pmCan we please keep the discussion to the topic at hand? A man died in a very freakish and tragic accident. A wife had to watch as her husband died in a lot of pain, and trying to keep her from being killed. What does any of this have to do with Obama, Bush, or the price of tea for that matter??? I have said it before and I’ll say it again, many of the posters on this site are absolutely suffering from a bizarre form of Obama derangement. Let’s try to focus on what’s important folks. I am pretty sure that Obama was not on the road when this horrible accident occurred. Let’s pray for that poor man and his widow. They are the story.

Posted on January 2, 2012 at 1:23pmThank you!! I’m in 200% agreement! I’m sick and tired of the Obamatizers. As despicable as Obama is, he isn’t omnipresent and the silly posts are NOT funny or clever. This was a horrible tragedy and our prayers belong with the family. Sometimes it seems like a bunch of six year olds posting on some of these stories. Our hearts go out to this family.

Yes, perhaps Obama should make trees illegal. Lol. Always good to know that Positivists have those man-made laws that protect us from ourselves and Natural Law. On a more serious note, my condolences go out to the man’s wife and family.

Report Post »patriot308
Posted on January 2, 2012 at 3:18amUh….. my dictionary lists the “press” as: a group, or individuals who trade information pertaining to current events; for compensation.
By this definition…. the blaze would be… the press. Unless they are all working for free.

Posted on January 2, 2012 at 9:54am“Saturday’s incident north of Boulder came as high winds swept through the Northern Rockies,” There are a lot of areas in Colorado where there aren’t any towns. The county was most likely Boulder County. BTW, this happened in Left Hand Canyon, north of Boulder.
