Keith Olbermann Announces Abrupt Departure From MSNBC

On Friday evening, MSNBC “Countdown” host Keith Olbermann abruptly announced the prime-time broadcast would be his last, ending a four-year contract extension he signed in 2008 early.
“I was supposed to fill in for the late Jerry Nachman for exactly three days. Forty-nine days later there was a four-year contract for me to return to this nightly 8 PM time slot which I had fled four years earlier,” Olbermann said Friday. “The program grew thanks entirely to your support with great rewards for me and I hope for you,” he told viewers.
“There were many occasions particularly in the last two and a half years where all that surrounded the show — but never the show itself — was just too much for me. But your support and loyalty and if I may use the word insistence ultimately required that I keep going.”
The network issued a brief statement Friday that it had ended its contract with the controversial host, offering no further explanation.
“MSNBC and Keith Olbermann have ended their contract. The last broadcast of ‘Countdown with Keith Olbermann’ will be this evening. MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC’s success and we wish him well in his future endeavors,” the statement said.
NBC spokesman Jeremy Gaines insisted that the newly approved acquisition of NBC Universal by Comcast had nothing to do with Olbermann’s exit.
Olbermann‘s program has boasted the network’s highest ratings, but his controversial — and often combative — liberal opinions made him a target for critics. In the past, he and network executives have clashed, including a two-day suspension last fall after it was revealed he broke corporate ethics policies banning political donations.
Starting Monday, “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” is slated to fill Olbermann’s vacated 8 p.m. ET/PT time slot, and “The Ed Show,” hosted by progressive radio host Ed Schultz, will move to 10 p.m. Cenk Uygur, an occasional stand-in host and MSNBC contributor will fill in during the 6 p.m. hour.
Update: CNN’s Anderson Cooper speculated Friday evening that Olbermann was “fired” from MSNBC:
Cooper is referring to the departure of MSNBC Chief Executive Officer Jeff Zucker who also departed from the network this week. “With Comcast, I leave you in good hands and have no doubt that you will continue to do great things,” Zucker wrote.
Update: Politico reports that unnamed sources within MSNBC said Olbermann’s departure was a “stealth move” with many “top executives and on-air talent kept out of the loop.”
NBC executives have also reportedly announced that one term of Olbermann’s settlement “will keep him from moving to another network for an extended period of time.”

Posted on January 22, 2011 at 4:11pmI hope MSNBC means what they say, because first they yanked his special reports on who was the absolute worse person, then apparently all the liberals wrote in screaming “Bring it back, bring it back!” One wonders why. Then he got tossed for flapping his gums about something and then reinstated. And apparently the media world is not known for the two week pink slip, so one hopes that this time they will stand firm and point to the door. He’d obviously become a liability for MSNBC.
The reassuring thing is that there apparently is a “non-competative” clause so he can’t go to another network and may not be able to become the White House spokesperson for whatever specified time.
One can only hope that Ed Schultz will follow Keith’s path and end up being shown the door, too, but it will probably take awhile.

Chapter 1
And Oprah shall say, “Let there be the ONE”, and it was done.
The one sayeth, “Yes WE can” and it was done, with lots of undocumented money.
After the one sayeth, “We need more TARP”, the serpent, from the Bay, sayeth, we have a TARP. The one signeth the TARP and deemed “Life is Good, let there be Health Care”
But the One did not listen to the people, and the people did protest. “Tea is what we need” cried the people. Alas, the One did not heed the people and insisted the Healthcare is what the people needed. The serpent from the bay wielded the mighty hammer and cried “Racism” and wielded the mighty hammer with might. The people did protest, but was smited by the Serpent from the Bay.
The people were then perceived as simple and dismissed, thus the peoples, people, rejoiced and partied with the serpent from the Bay. Alas, the people were dismayed and refudieated the peoples People, and cast them into civilionship, and thus vacated their offices. The serpent from the Bay was furious and admonished the people as stupid and racist. The chosen One flew off to The Island and muttered, “I was born upon these Islands, so sayeth the Governor”. The Oberman, spouted one, with venom.
Report Post »After the Midterm, the Chosen One returned to the city by the Potomic, and pronounced, “I have returned to center”, the Oberman rejoiced but declared, “the right is still racist and the Worlds worst person.” The ratings dropped and neilson cried.
After the midterm massacre, the left screamed, “Oh chosen One, did thou forsaken us”, the Chosen One simply laughed and said, “What did the Rahm say, never waste a crisis”. The left was then smited and sent to the common places.
The Boehner then rose to where the serpent from the Bay was and said, “We shall cut these prices.” Walmart smiled and said, “Life is good.” At which there was a march on Washington to protest these low prices. The Boehener then submitted, “We must repeal this “Healthcare”, but the former serpent from the Bay, screamed, “Racist”, (the only word she knows). And the Obermans from the media parroted the same. Thus, Racist was the word heard throughout the land on the big three to the simpletons of the land. The Keith thus quit his towncrier post and returned to the bus stop restrooms, crying for the obligatory $5 a cry. The Chris with a tingle remained to champion the One with a tingle and tout “Healthcare for all and for all a good tax raise”.
But for all the One called for, the Tucson called out the Hypocrisy and the One called for a reason and civil debate. But the Hairy one from the desert and the serpent from the Bay said “Nay, we shant cease with the foul hatred or vitriol, we shall spite forward with vile breath”. The nation was sad and soiled. The Tea stained people rose above the vitriol and smote the vile rhetoric at the polls, the serpent and the toad from the desert shrank back to the desolate decadence from which they came, they hissed, “We shall be back through the EPA and FCC, regulations shall strangle you and the One shall retain his power.” The Governator said in his goodbye address, “I shall be back”. The Golden State then threw the noose around our neck.
The abyss rose on the horizon, the sun shone on our backs, Beck said, “I Can”, and the left beacons, “No you can’t”. Now is the time for man to choose, “Can you or can’t you?” If you can’t, vote for the serpent from the Bay, if you can, vote for the man from the Mount.

Posted on January 22, 2011 at 9:08amMSNBC never have I watched it. Of course I have not had broadcast or cable TV in my home for 15 years. I have not only saved money by not buying the garbage, I have saved myself from the “programming” the box tends to cause on people.
TV is a powerful propaganda tool. These folks on the networks and on cable know it. Most people are what Glenn says is that most people are cattle. His analogy rings true and the masses are kept fenced in by the tall tails told by there TV sets.
There is a comparison to the “Rome” timeline and TV. TV is our cultures Coliseum, our “bread and circuses”, our cake if you will. If the “elite” powers that be can keep you watching irrelevant things such as, sports, comedy, or the latest who’s who show, they can continue consolidating their power behind the scenes.
If there has been one bright spot in TV programming, it has been FOX. As well as some very bright and truthful radio personalities, although sometimes over the top. They have upset the balance of the narrative offering of the “elite” wanting total control over your lives. My hope is that enough average Americans are paying close attention to what is really going on.
It comes down to this, in which I agree with Glenn Beck; People have to start thinking for themselves based on there own convictions and not base their thinking on what I call “group think”. My suggestion would be to first, turn off that “Programming” on the TV. There is a reason it is called “Programming”.
My second and probably most important is that you start to read and research your on your own, the news. The talking heads will give you their slant, the challenge is for you to prove or disprove it. Seek the news that is important to you. Seek facts and separate it from the opinion and base your beliefs on what is real.
This guy on MSNBC, in my world is irrelevant. Keith who?

His debate with the swift boat author back in 2004 was to shout “you are a liar” over everything the other guy was trying to say. That was his entire debate tactic for the whole segment. Every man in America liked Freedom a lot;
Report Post »But Olbermann, who lived just Left of America, did NOT.
Olbermann hated Liberty, to the point of treason;
Now, please don’t ask why. No one quite knows the reason.
It could be his head was the place that attracted the flies;
It could be, perhaps, that his lips spewed too many lies.
But I think that the most likely reason of all,
May have been that his glasses were two sizes too small.
Whatever the reason, His áss or his kisser,
He stood there on MSNBC, still just a písser.
