FORMER HUFFINGTON POST CEO BETSY MORGAN NAMED PRESIDENT AND FORMER PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS PRESIDENT KRAIG KITCHIN NAMED DIRECTOR OF SALES AT GLENN BECK’S THE BLAZE
MANAGING EDITOR SCOTT BAKER PROMOTED TO EDITOR IN CHIEF
New York, NY, January 5, 2011 – Former Huffington Post CEO Betsy Morgan and Former Premiere Radio Networks President Kraig Kitchin will join The Blaze, Glenn Beck’s four month-old information network, it was announced today by Christopher Balfe, President & COO of Mercury Radio Arts.
Morgan will be based in New York, and Kitchin will be based in Los Angeles.
As president, Morgan will focus on establishing The Blaze as a premiere digital network curating content, community and debate and further leveraging Beck’s loyal audience. Kitchin joins as director of sales, and will oversee all advertising activity for The Blaze. Scott Baker, who joined The Blaze from Breitbart.tv as Managing Editor, has been promoted to Editor in Chief.
“The Blaze is very fortunate to welcome Betsy and Kraig to the team,” said Beck. “Betsy has proven herself to be a successful media executive and leader in the digital media space, and her unique perspective and experiences will be valuable in building The Blaze as a vibrant, impactful community. Kraig is a veteran advertising executive whose strong relationships and vast media experience will help forge new partnerships and further develop our brand.”
Morgan most recently served as the CEO of the award winning Huffington Post from 2007 until 2009, playing a pivotal role in the company’s expansion. Under her leadership, the site grew from 4 million to 22 million unique visitors and doubled its ad revenue. Morgan expanded the number of content verticals to ten, incorporated over 3,000 new blogging contributors, and raised $25 million in new funding. Prior to her tenure at the Huffington Post, Morgan spent 10 years at CBS News, where she worked as vice president of the news division in the digital sector, and later as senior vice president of CBS Interactive and the general manager of CBSNews.com. She is a graduate of Colby College and Harvard Business School.
“I am thrilled to be leading The Blaze at this unprecedented time,” Morgan said. “Mercury Radio Arts is a powerful multimedia brand with a great business upside. I’m looking forward to expanding the team and developing businesses around topical content in all areas that engage audiences and drive a healthy national debate.”
Kitchin will continue to operate Sound Mind LLC, a management company that he launched in 2008 for many of the nation’s top radio, television and music personalities. In l987, Kitchin helped found Premiere Radio Networks—the top radio network in the country in both advertising relationships and audience reach, with over 190 million listeners weekly- and served as its President and COO for 10 years. At Premiere, Kitchin oversaw the development and distribution of more than 200 programs and services that aired on over 4,500 affiliations in the U.S. He has also been consistently ranked as one of the top 30 executives in the industry by Radio Ink magazine.
“I believe in The Blaze, and see its loyal readership beginning to emerge,” said Kitchin. “It will offer countless national advertisers an environment to connect with online readers and sell products and services as a result.”
TheBlaze.com launched in August of 2010 and has already delivered impressive audience growth, averaging over 3 million unique visitors per month. Major national advertisers such as Goldline, Lifelock and Freedomworks have already signed on as advertisers in 2011.
Premiere Radio Networks represents The Blaze.com to advertisers nationwide.

Posted on January 5, 2011 at 7:44pmThis should prove a basic point. The people who run this site (or HuffPo, for that matter) don’t have a real investment in the politics. They’re in business. They are simply selling you conservatism, or liberalism, retail.
They have a right to say what they’re saying, but we have an equivalent right not to buy it. This extreme stuff, on both sides, is just driving us apart. Conservatives are not trying to install a theocracy, and liberals aren’t trying to effect a socialist dystopia.
Turn off Ariana Huffington and Glenn Beck and talk to your neighbors.

That’s a good one.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 3:15amGreat post Moonbat!! THe last year or so has made me very skeptical of Glenn’s motives. With his 3-4 books a year and his constant movie theather gigs. The guy is obviously in it for the money and is just cashing in on conservatism. This is just more icing on the cake for him. I used to listen to this guy everyday all the time, but not so much anymore. its not that I dont agree with alot of the things he is saying, its just that I dont think he’s totally sincere in everything he is preaching, except when it comes to his millions of gods religion.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 8:26amMOONBAT, You cannot possibly be this wishy-washy and nonchalant. You don’t feel the earth rocking under your feet when you see the news? I hear the sledge-hammers beating away at America from the outside and the inside.
You are a fool if you retort with a lame “things have always changed, what’s the big deal?”
What do you think devaluing the dollar is about? Helping America?
What is strangling the energy sector about? Strength through Weakness?
Here is a hard truth: If this century belongs to China and Russia, then the cause of Civil Rights and Human Liberty is lost.
If the US is brought to her knees, a jealous world will not just leave us here licking our wounds, they will come in and tear us apart.
It’s what happens in Hollywood but on an international scale, but instead of tearing good people apart you are jealous of with gossip and intrigue, if the United States goes down, we will suffer invasion and the world casting lots for who gets what of our finery.
Dont’ be foolish. The world is not a kindergarten playground.
Call me extreme if you wish. But the gentry who poo-pooed Chruchill all ended up with a painful lesson to learn.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 8:41amI have to agree with MOONBAT. I have been following Beck for years and he has always stood for the little guy. But this, this has the smell of big business all over it. It’s too bad, I am very disappointed. What disappoints me the most is, Glenn has always made the point that the people make the difference, so why would he have to bring in a big gun, why not give a nobody with lots of gumption a chance? I do understand that people change, and change their point of views. But this is like catching your wife cheating, and though you give her another chance, its always on your mind.
I doubt that Glenn will ever read this, but for the record this is directly directed at you Mr. Beck.
I believe this decision you have made is a bad one. This will be the beginning of your down turn. I can speak for a few Beck fans that has the feeling of betrayal. If you can’t see it, I will try to explain. Because a person may have been just a CEO and had nothing to do with content, they still used their skills to promote what the other side was selling. It’s all about principle, “Remember”?
It would be like me telling God, I just ran Satins recruiting service, but I didn’t really believe in what he was doing. I think that would be even worse, because I would be doing something only to promote myself. That is what this appears you are doing.
You may change your mind, and someday I may give you a second chance, but at the moment I feel dirty because I have just been cheated on.
With that said, take care, God Bless, and good luck in your endeavors…
To all on this site that I have had the pleasure of some great debates I will say so long for now, this will be my last post. Take Care and God Bless

I hope this change will raise the level of conversation on this website. Right now it ranges from mediocre conversation, stuff overheard at bars and things whispered in underground bunkers. (I do NOT mean Mark Levin’s bunker.) I choose to opine on other sites for this very reason. You gotta love freedom of choice…
As a homeschool mom, I’m looking for an open exchange of ideas and thoughts I can share with my children. It’s why I spend most of my “computer time” reading articles from many different views. My children deserve to know the TRUTH and the arguments against that truth. It’s how we are raising independent thinkers, not mindless robots who believe anything they see in a text book. Our end goal is to have our children question everything respectfully and boldly.
BTW, check out the debate happening at this rag: http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2011/01/04/do-home-schoolers-deserve-a-tax-break/no-extra-rules-required-for-home-schooling
If you have time, read the threads following each debate. They are eye-opening on how society perceives the homeschool crowd. Yes. Our kids are socialized. Geez, I’m tired of that discredited argument.
Time will tell if this move was a good one Mr. Beck. I’m pulling for you. You have opened the eyes of so many sleeping Americans! I know you are not trying to create a theocracy. Those claiming such are uninformed rubes running scared and blind. What do they have left to lose? If we keep our focus on God and never lose sight of HIS commands, we will be victorious! Posted on January 5, 2011 at 8:06pmFreedomAdvocate, this isn’t a news site. And neither is HuffPost. This is a site run by a political commentator — it doesn’t have the same presumption of neutrality that journalism does. You can certainly argue that actual journalism often fails in its mission to present the bare facts, but this doesn’t even try.
Report Post »FreedomAdvocate
Posted on January 5, 2011 at 8:24pmMoonbat, I disagree. There may be a certain perspective behind the news reported here, nor does this site attempt to report all news generally, however it does still report news (targeted, yes, but news nonetheless), even if some may consider it slanted. It is to this latter that I speak, having a diverse staff can minimize any agenda. Posted on January 6, 2011 at 4:12amHad a couple of things to say to MOONBAT, but I hit the wrong REPLY button!
BIAS is only a concern if:
1). The person making the presentation is dishonest.
2). The person has contempt rather than respect for the audience.
3). The person or organization is trying to manipulate your worldview while claiming that NO worldview was involved in their editorial decisions over which stories to push at you and which stories to withhold from you.
4). The person is afraid of the audience and self-censors out of a sense of self-preservation or gain.
I respect Glenn because he demands that you shoot straight with him. He wants you to tell him how it really is – good or bad. And he has brought his audience things that have been unpopular and which have dinged his ratings in the past.
MOONBAT, Glenn has a track record. His worldview is on the table. His convictions are strong, but he is open to new conclusions if the FACTS show that a new conclusion is the TRUTH, and if you can PROVE where the old conclusion was off the mark or wrong, or a misunderstanding due to incomplete information.
Is your worldview set in concrete? Do you think you have it all figured out? Or are you still learning like the rest of us? We need you!
There is enough of a burden from the people who have attained positions of leadership who through their vanity just KNOW that they have ALL of the answers. A little more humility from them is in order and would be welcome.

2. Get a real job. Rabblerouser has no future.
3. Cut that justin bieber hair-do. You’re all grown up now, i think.
4. Throw away the weezer t-shirt from 2005. It’s stained beyond acceptable.
5. Get your own place. your parents have raised you.
6. Find some direction in life. Grungy is not a direction.
7. Get a marketable skill. stop hating on successful capitalists.
Give it a shot leftilicious. One day you’ll be all grown up. You will be 27 and have to get your own health insurance. You can’t be a child forever.

A CEO is all about managing business and growth. Beck and his editors control what kind of content comes to this site. The new folks are here to GROW the site and get hits. Furthermore, they will be making this place look more spiffy and be more streamlined.
I see no issue here. There’s no reason to fret. NOW if Beck brought in HUFFPO EDITORS and WRITERS I’d be concerned. These folks are executives who are trying to make money and make their site a success. They don’t give a damn about content. Their job is to make theblaze a happenin’ place to be.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 8:36amThis is too funny to read the naysayers and their predictions on how The Blaze will succumb to liberal overthrow. First of all, why would Beck advertise this clearly for all to read when he could have hidden it from all….because it is not an issue of content but rather a business decision. If you run a company, you know the CEO is rarely an employee who worked within the company for years, but rather an established marketer with ties and connections to further the business and grow it. You would have to be stupid to not consider success regardless of where they worked. Remember, this is a capitalistic nation….just thought I would enlighten you all. Second, Beck has control of the content and clearly advertises this site on his radio and TV show. Do you really think he would compromise his audience and other listeners to JUST MAKE MONEY?? Beck knows that conservatives are vastly more intelligent than liberals and can see through this and find the real truth behind the decision. So liberal idiots, please stop for second and realize you are bad detectives and look deeper into the situation. We are smarter than you, have always been smarter than you and have history to back that up.
For example, network security companies hire hackers because they are the best test to build and prevent future security breaches. You are not so much hiring an enemy but rather looking outside the box for leadership. Also, HuffPo LOST this executive to The Blaze. Do you have any idea why that happened? Maybe THAT is the question you should be asking as all organizations must continue to succeed to spread their message. Soros can’t fund everybody all the time and he knows it!

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 8:53amLet’s take a step back for a moment . . . Look to one of the last significant messages that Beck left America with at the end of the year. It was an expression of bridging the divide that exist between the American people . . . that we are so divided we have lost common goals to stand together on.
It’s understandable then that there are profound feelings of “us” and “them.“ But know that liberalism in its quest to end the ”us“ and ”them” thinking, has made the situation worse. In other words, liberalism fails to realize what it sets out to do. Let’s keep one thing in mind: Liberalism always has good intentions. Liberalism’s ways of going about doing things and getting things done however, how they effect change is unrefined and not evolved despite their thinking they are superior.
Take for instance the issues of environmentalism. We are all for environmentalism when it’s done right. When it destroys things in the name of preserving its target, it’s a failure, but it never wants to admit that and it never does; it develops tunnel vision, rationalizes, becomes corrupt and loses sight of its own actions that result in great contradictions that we constantly point out here.
Give these people a chance to display what it is that they intend. We are all intelligent enough to find another media outlet. If it gets bad enough, we start our own; we find a way to survive . . . just like Beck did. This is America . . .

I cannot disagree with that.
I will walk a path with another man as long as our views aling. When our views diverge, we stop walking the same path. That we walk on the same path for a while does not mean however that I’m following that man, nor that he is following me. I’ve always taken a cautious approach to Beck (and any other celebrity). Beck was/is saying some good things, and where we agree I have no worries being open about that agreement. But my conclusions and ideas are my own, I came to them long before Beck ever heard the word “libertarian” and I continue to think on my own now (perish the very notion that I’d follow somebody as a non-thinking brute, egads).
He’s still saying some good things (and some bad, witness the debt ceiling sell out), but these actions of his are becoming very questionable. He’s human, he may just be making some fundamental mistakes, himself being still rather unacquainted with libertarian philosophies, and I hope that’s what this is. Or it could well be what you note, a money-talks type of situation.
Dunno. In the end, my mind and life is my own, and does not depend on Beck or any other man for support, either real or ideological.

Here’s my real problem with Glenn Beck.
He does a show where he comes across somber and serious. 2 hours later he appears on O’reilly and laughs and giggles at the same topics, making fun of peoples names and eating hot doggs.
He plans a gathering at the Lincoln to expose his “plan”, subject of gathering is changed to “reclaim the civil rights movement”, changed to “faith, hope, charity.
He preaches being honourable and then makes fun of The POTUS‘ daughter’s voice and education.
He claims to be a rodeo clown and then tells you that God is speaking through him.
Exposing Soros is probably a good idea, however, isolating a gruesome time in history in which Glenn couldn’t possibly imagine what it was like to be a Jew, Glenn concludes that he sent Jews to the death camps. Disgusting!!!!
He uses the haulacost and Nazi references to compare things that are not even close in comparison without any thought of how survivors might feel.
When he was a shock jock, he was able to change and adjust his emotions on command. Doesn’t seem like that has changed. Glenn is an actor/comedian making a killing off the fringe and insecure in this country.
He hides behind “if I lie, I’ll be fired” while several of his theories/facts have been debunked.
Glenn attacks whom he wants but when anyone attempts to expose him, he attaches it to a conspiracy theory.
Why not bring some voice of opposition on his show?

“He claims to be a rodeo clown and then tells you that God is speaking through him.”
Straw man. Never said God was “talking through him”.
“Exposing Soros is probably a good idea, however, isolating a gruesome time in history in which Glenn couldn’t possibly imagine what it was like to be a Jew, Glenn concludes that he sent Jews to the death camps. Disgusting!!!!”
Another straw man.
“He uses the haulacost and Nazi references to compare things that are not even close in comparison without any thought of how survivors might feel.”
“haulacost”? That a some sort of moving company (Haul-a-Cost)? ;) His comparisons are perhaps hyperbolic, but not too far off in some respects.
“When he was a shock jock, he was able to change and adjust his emotions on command. Doesn’t seem like that has changed. Glenn is an actor/comedian making a killing off the fringe and insecure in this country.”
“Fringe and insecure”? Really?
“He hides behind ‘if I lie, I’ll be fired’ while several of his theories/facts have been debunked.”
Such as? (And don’t bring the Wilmington nonsense, as we’ve already been through that, and it was debunked.)
“Glenn attacks whom he wants but when anyone attempts to expose him, he attaches it to a conspiracy theory.”
Again, such as?
“Why not bring some voice of opposition on his show?”
Fair question.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 2:48pmGhostOfJefferson, have you listened to the reasoning about the debt ceiling issue? Stewart Varney explained it in laymens terms yesterday and I must say it made very good sense. I know it sounds counter-intuitive but raising the debt ceiling now allows us to lower it faster and further than otherwise possible.
Go read the arguments, then see what you think. I’m a slash-and-burn sort of person and I want our debt ceiling not turned back to 2008 levels, I want them back to 1998 levels. So for me to consider the idea of temporarily raising it one more time in order to fix our problems in the long run, was a hard and bitter pill for me to swallow. However, the argument was logical and had extraordinary merit.

I have proven many times on this site where Beck has lied. Your response argued nothing at all except your unwillingness to open your eyes and realize what this guy is all about.
He did say that he felt God was talikng to him during the debacle of trying to decide what his rally should be about. Remember “the plan”. And as far as the Willmington situation is concerned, not only did he lie but he didn’t bother correcting himself even when people in the town asked him to.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 3:12pmgoodness, people, relax….those of you freaking out about a Huffington Post employee moving to the Blaze. Read the story instead of just the headline. She was CEO – not managing editor or something along those lines. She will not mess with content, only manage those who provide content. This is about business, growing the site, and increasing revenue.
Lest you forget, Glenn was once on CNN….. was he expected to follow the same content guidelines when he moved to Fox?
I am very excited about this news – it will mean a better site, more content, more blog pieces, and all sorts of other goodies. Maybe they will finally get a handle on how comments are posted as well, so not every moron like myself responds to the first post on the page! lol

There’s a difference between saying “God talks to me” and saying “I feel God wants me to do this”.
And yes, there were some who pointed out that Clinton County received Stimulus money…the problem is that that money hasn’t been spent, so your allegation is misleading, as was Beck’s statement — but who cares? Both are at worst lies of omission only.
Report Post »But you claim “several”, so pony up. If you’ve got the proof that Beck is a pathological liar or whatever it is you think about him, show it.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 4:00pmAnd no, I did not argue anything, because there was nothing to argue against. And you only made yourself look more vacuous by your little indirect insult. I may not be as eloquent or sharp-witted as Ghost, but I know my way around an argument well enough to know that you don’t have much of one.
So put up or shut up.

Thanks. Interesting. One of their ratings of his statements as lies caught my attention, though.
On John Holdren, it would seem Politifact is incapable of distinguishing between “proposed” and “advocated”. They say Beck’s saying that Holdren proposed sterilants and forced abortions is a lie, because he never advocated those things, but then go on to quote exactly where he indeed proposed them… So they rank the statement as “pants on fire” simply because Beck didn’t make clear that there was no actual advocation (though even the proposal is distasteful enough)? Doesn’t seem warranted to me.
Anyway, thanks again for addressing my challenge.
