Breaking: NYU Fellow Resigns After Controversial Sexual Assault Tweets

NYU’s Center on Law and Security has just released a statement about fellow Nir Rosen. Rosen has come under fire for posting appalling and insensitive tweets about the sexual assault of CBS reporter Lara Logan. Now, the center says Rosen has tendered his resignation, and it has been accepted.

Executive Director Karen J. Greenberg issued the following statement:

Nir Rosen is always provocative, but he crossed the line with his comments about Lara Logan. I am deeply distressed by what he wrote about Ms. Logan and strongly denounce his comments. They were cruel and insensitive and completely unacceptable. Mr. Rosen tells me that he misunderstood the severity of the attack on her in Cairo. He has apologized, withdrawn his remarks, and submitted his resignation as a fellow, which I have accepted. However, this in no way compensates for the harm his comments have inflicted. We are all horrified by what happened to Ms. Logan, and our thoughts are with her during this difficult time. [Emphasis hers]

One of Rosen’s tweets suggested Logan was a war monger and would become glorified for what happened to her:

First we as a society attacked those who inflict damages through physical force and now we are attacking offensive speech as if he causes harm. Well if that’s the case anyone who says anything that someone finds offensive is causing harm…..REALLY

Thank you for illustrating exactly what political correctness has done to our society. Thanks to the need to not offend anyone, no one can say anything.

However, a small measure of decency is in order in any society. If Ms Logan was your wife, or sister, or even your friend would you appreciate someone saying she deserved to be attacked?

You are failing to make some important distinctions here. As @Edgar Bennet says “there are consequences for violating social norms”. There is the side of RIGHT and there is the side of WRONG as surely as there is GOOD and EVIL. Ask a woman in your life what she thinks.

      @Smithclar3nc3
“What harm could a comment cause?“ This goes beyond ”offensive speech”.
In a CIVILIZED SOCIETY (you moron) rape is illegal, unacceptable and deplorable. Rape is a crime. A crime of power over an individual (most often a woman) in a completely different way than if you had just punched the person in the face. It can nearly destroy your soul.
Mr Rosen was saying in essence that she deserved it- for her views on war. He was saying that this violence is acceptable, laughable even.
I am going to assume that you are actually so horrified by this that you have some kind of strong internal denial reaction going on. I dare you to talk to a woman family member or friend about this.
As a conservative and former liberal I stand strongly for the value of every individual life.
A society that fails to honor and protect it’s women is a society that is doomed.
Mr Rosen spouting his hateful support of what happened to Lara Logan needs to be denounced. Thank God he was.

Root cause of many of US problems: this stat is a few years old but, I would like to think it has not changed that much; US has ~ 6% of the worlds’ population —- US has ~ 66% of the worlds’ lawyers. It will never change without a revolution of some type because the law makers (Congress) created so many elements of the US society to live by, that their firms (after they leave Congress) or their friends firms etc. – The Big Business of Legal – will benefit for 20-40 years after something is enacted.

However, in the final days, and especially after the battles with pro-Mubarak gangs who attacked the protesters in Tahrir, women noticed sexual assault had returned to the square. On the day Mubarak fell, women reported being groped by the rowdy crowds.”

      James 3:2-10 (King James Version)

2For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

3Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

4Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

5Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

6And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

7For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

8But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

10Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
