Editor’s note: The President’s live address has ended. But we’ll leave this post active for the comment thread which passed 400 comments before the live event even began. We‘ll be posting the recorded version of the President’s remarks shortly.

The President will address the nation from the White House at 10:30 — but right now the subject is unknown.
The announcement came abruptly — after the White House had declared that “no other news would be coming for the remainder of the day.”
We’ll update this post over as we get more information and post a live stream here if it is available. For now post any speculation to comments.
Update: The pre-speech indications at 10:40 point to reports that Osama bin Laden is dead.
Update: Fox News is reporting that bin Laden was killed over a week ago by a U.S. bomb and the U.S. was waiting for DNA confirmation.
Update: I’m posting two live streams in case there are any technical issues — the MSNBC stream is first, then the official White House stream which is auto playing. That’s FYI as you choose which to watch.
Update: The President’s speech is underway and he is confirming the death of Osama bin Laden. But early reports about a bomb operation in Afghanistan may have been incorrect. The operation was on the ground inside Pakistan. Look for new posts shortly.

As far as “We” the conservatives need to realize, we need to bring our country back to the constitution, and the left needs to realize do we go back to the constitution or veer left to the socialists state..
In my interpretation is both conflicting sides, they need to realize that being enemies, if they don’t unite, they will both die. Thus setting differences aside, they will unite for the survival of both to ensure the destruction of their common foe. After that, they will work together to form a union and work to a common future.

The world is at the edge.

I thought I’d never say this but Barry finally did something right. Good job! No matter what the motivation was. I guess a even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. Justice was served. The world is a safer place tonight. We’ll see how this is taken in Muslim street. Not that it matters. Maybe we will wake up and start using covert actions like this to try and prevent wars in the future. Seems to have much less cost and collateral damage.

Not really. The Pakistani govt. was harboring him, and the Pakistani military was protecting him. That’s why it took so long to find him and then set up a successful operation to take him out. Most Pakistanis favor the Taliban and have become increasingly radicalized, especially since Obama took office, threatened to invade them and has incessantly launched drone attacks in Northern Pakistan.
This victory is extremely important, because it brings to the forefront the future of Pakistan and our involvement in the region. In other words, this operation was NOT carried out in cooperation with the Pakistani govt. And that’s the unadulterated truth.
