‘Bring it Beck!’: T-Shirt Hopes to Attract Beck‘s Business to Town of ’Mayberry’

Melissa Hiatt created this T-shirt to support Mount Airy, N.C.'s bid for Glenn Beck's new 1791 clothing line. (Mount Airy News)
Following up on last week‘s story about the North Carolina mayor who’s hoping Glenn Beck will bring his new clothing line to her town, another citizen has stepped up to try and make Mount Airy, N.C. the home of the 1791 line: She’s created a T-shirt telling him to “bring it.”
Melissa Hiatt told the Mount Airy News she created the shirt — which has the words “Bring it Beck!“ over an image of the American flag and a ”Made in the U.S.A.” stamp — to support Mayor Deborah Cochran’s efforts, and because the board of commissioners reportedly declined to support the project due to Beck’s politics.
“I’m very proud of her for being persistent and for going after such a thing,” Hiatt said. She said there needed to be something to show the community‘s support for the mayor and Beck’s project. “We want jobs and we should leave politics out of it.”
Cochran told Beck on the radio last week that bringing 1791 to Mount Airy — the inspiration for the fictional town of Mayberry — would revitalize the town’s textile industry, which has suffered as many jobs have gone overseas.
The purpose of 1791 — named after the year the Bill of Rights was adopted — is to raise money for Beck’s new charity, Mercury One, and to invest in America by offering jobs.
About 50 T-shirts have been printed so far, and are being sold for $10 apiece.
“Politics affects so many things,” Hiatt said. “But not having jobs in this community hurts everyone.”

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 3:56pm…and another thing… If I were Beck, there’s no way in H*** I’d choose Mt. Airy, even though I personally thought it was a great idea when I first heard it, being a confirmed fan of TAGS (just the black and whites, though, please). Don’t like capitalism, commissioners? Fine. You sure aren’t going to get the benefits of it.

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 12:42pmDon’t MISS the POINT that the fictional town of “Mayberry” exhibited “the TRUE VALUES of down home America” for MANY years on TV! Being a North Carolinian, born and bred, I would LOVE to see the town of Mt. Airy come to life again. THAT would give me some HOPE for the remainder of the state. Remember…we still need to take back NC at the LOCAL level like in Mt Airy. Yes, GOP WON in 2010, BUT there is MUCH MORE work to be done to reclaim our state from the liberal bias it’s suffered from for over 60 years!

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 4:12pmI agree that we need to bring back the textile industry back to NC. If not Mt Airy then it could go to Belmont, NC or Concord/Kannapolis, NC. Those towns were big textile shops in the Charlotte, NC area so they are nearer to a metro hub that could get the product to the people. I also agree we need to rid ourselves of ‘ol Bev. They had it for 100 years, now the GOP has it. If I were the mayor, I would have had some national guard set up the firing squad. They would rather protect their idealogue than to help bring jobs in, says a lot of about who they work for. This is why we threw the ******** out of Raleigh, it was that obvious. You are right, to start, send an email to the mayor and copy it to Bev Purdue so she can see what they were doing to. I sent an email to Cockran yesterday thanking her for looking out for her people and helping them land jobs. I also told her to send a letter to her commissioners telling them they should be seeking jobs soon. I agree with the post here about a short video that Beck would feature on his website with everybody wearing those shirts. On the back it should say “What Commissioners”. God Bless! Well off to blast mediamatters and huffingtonpost on their libeterdial relationships with terds like Soros….

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 7:09pmHey Barb, I’m damn near tempted to Mt. Airy myself, butI spect the humidity is awful there in the summer.
Got another friend I been in contact with when he had his show on Court TV, and that’s Sheriff Gerald K. Hege. of avidson County, over in Lexington, which is about 40 miles away from Mayberry. He read my e-mail I sent him, over the air. It was regarding 2 time killer Mitchell Rupe who was put on death row in WA State. He said he was too fat to hang. He went into prison weighing 250 lbs, and ballooned up to 410 LBS. Unfortunately Sheriff Hege got set up by his opposition on phoney embezzlement charges and had to resign as sheriff. I don’t think he did a damn thing wrong. He did more to help out the citizens, even impoverished people that any democrat would ever do.
I hope Hege runs again and gets re-elected.
Democrats will set anybody up on phoney charges just to get rid of them.

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 12:14pmThe money generated for charities by Beck and other conservatives such as Rush, O’Rielly, and Hannity are all positives. And if all their consumer products are produced in the USA that is good for those communities involved inthe production porcess. Jobs are jobs. How many NEW jobs has the UAW or any union for that matter generated? NONE! How many jobs have been lost due to union demands that force companies to close or move their operations overseas? PLENTY! There is even a better upside–these products generate a percentage for charity unlike what the unions do with their forced contributions.
