British Foreign Office: Prepare for Riots if the Euro Collapses

You would expect the Foreign Office mandarins to be prepared for every eventuality – but here’s a doomsday scenario which might just happen.

British embassies are now taking active steps to prepare for the possibility of the euro collapsing – something that’s no longer as inconceivable as it once was.

The Foreign Office is preparing contingency plans to help expats from the Costa del Sol and the Algarve who could be stranded without cash – or caught up in riots and civil unrest.

British embassies in the eurozone have been told to draw up plans to help British expats through the collapse of the single currency, amid new fears for Italy and Spain.

As the Italian government struggled to borrow and Spain considered seeking an international bail-out, British ministers privately warned that the break-up of the euro, once almost unthinkable, is now increasingly plausible.

Diplomats are preparing to help Britons abroad through a banking collapse and even riots arising from the debt crisis.

The Treasury confirmed earlier this month that contingency planning for a collapse is now under way.

A senior minister has now revealed the extent of the Government’s concern, saying that Britain is now planning on the basis that a euro collapse is now just a matter of time.

“It’s in our interests that they keep playing for time because that gives us more time to prepare,” the minister told the Daily Telegraph.

Recent Foreign and Commonwealth Office instructions to embassies and consulates request contingency planning for extreme scenarios including rioting and social unrest.

Greece has seen several outbreaks of civil disorder as its government struggles with its huge debts. British officials think similar scenes cannot be ruled out in other nations if the euro collapses.

Diplomats have also been told to prepare to help tens of thousands of British citizens in eurozone countries with the consequences of a financial collapse that would leave them unable to access bank accounts or even withdraw cash.

While European leaders still say there is no need to draw up a Plan B, some of the world’s biggest banks, and their supervisors, are doing just that.

“We cannot be, and are not, complacent on this front,” Andrew Bailey, a regulator at Britain’s Financial Services Authority, said this week. “We must not ignore the prospect of a disorderly departure of some countries from the euro zone,” he said.

Banks including Merrill Lynch, Barclays Capital and Nomura issued a cascade of reports this week examining the likelihood of a breakup of the euro zone. “The euro zone financial crisis has entered a far more dangerous phase,” analysts at Nomura wrote on Friday. Unless the European Central Bank steps in to help where politicians have failed, “a euro breakup now appears probable rather than possible,” the bank said.

Major British financial institutions, like the Royal Bank of Scotland, are drawing up contingency plans in case the unthinkable veers toward reality, bank supervisors said Thursday. United States regulators have been pushing American banks like Citigroup and others to reduce their exposure to the euro zone. In Asia, authorities in Hong Kong have stepped up their monitoring of the international exposure of foreign and local banks in light of the European crisis.

    I could not understand why our retired vets were getting involved with OWS until I looked closer. Our military men and women have a desire to protect citizens and liberty. This is inherit to their training. The local government will turn on the citizens with help from the feds, but only until complete collapse and lawlessness increases. Police being outnumbered will look to protect themselves and their family members at home. The military takes over to prevent harm to citizens and crush violent gangs seeking power. If given order to hurt the citizens of the US most I believe will ignore that order.

      Obama’s aim has been the destruction of America from the beginning. I was trained to see patterns in the Navy (as a sub-hunter analyst). The link you sent scared me. It shows that Obama publically supports OWS while going behind their backs to undermine them in order to create more class warfare. He tried to incite the Tea Parties to violence and that didn’t work, so he’s stirring up his base. Although I do not believe the part about peaceful demonstrations, the rest is plausible. I do know the media is not reporting violence on either side (citizens or police). It could be a propaganda ploy to get the police to fight against the protesters in order to rile them up even more. With several cities out of control, Obama could declare martial law and take over. I have said since he got in office that there will be no election in 2012. I will be pleasantly surprised if there is a legit one (meaning no foul play and the results rigged), let alone one at all.

      Join Oathkeepers…I believe most of our military will NOT, repeat NOT, follow orders for MLaw, if given by Obamao. That being said, some will, so it will be a line drawn in the sand. If you plan to bug out, you better do it soon, otherwise, if you flee to the mountains, there will be the homesteaders up there shooting the ‘golden hoard’ as they approach.

      For me – I can say I am hunkering down in my neighborhood, trying to recruit like minded people, to survive. But I fear there will be too many marauders to effectively defend against a constant onslaught of gangs, etc…I believe in Jesus Christ, so if they get my body and my stuff, so be it…I’ll be in a better place. Pray to Jesus for salvation, repent and get your afairs in order, make amends and pray some more.

      You both make good points.
      If the police over-react, there probably will be a substantial uprising which, in turn, could provoke both the Fed and local governments to institute some ‘Orwellian’ measures.

      Will the police or military act out against the American people? Possibly, but you would most likely see that from the local police. They are less-trained (read: disciplined) and are less able to understand that if things get ugly, the point at which they need to disengage. Obama/Holder police over-reaction to happen.

      Remember…the American people are armed and ready to protect not only their families, but their personal property which, I believe, they have every right to protect. If lawless renegades start to instigate home invasions, it will become clear to everyone that there are not enough police to go around. There weren‘t in the 60’s, during the R. King fiasco in LA, or now.

      You have to consider a key player here…the racially-motivated DOJ. They have set the stage with no prosecution of the NBP’s in Philly. As well, they have racists in the civil rights division and its partner in crime, the voters section, who are working to steal the 2012 election for Obama.

      If you don’t believe me, read J Christian Adams’ book…Injustice. This Pres, along with the racist E Holder, have a score to settle with White America, and believe we were a great country only because of racial acts against blacks. These people are evil!

      Funny, but I was just looking at assorted British news outlets, and came across the link you have in your post. (Great minds think alike?? maybe? :) Anywho, come on!!! You really believe the rhetoric she’s spouting off? We know this is just more 99%/OWS spin, right? Our police Officers are NOT going around beating ppl up. The author has no reference to the violence the OWS crowd has given us day in and day out.
      What scared me though……..‘Across the pond’ they think this story is true. They think the ‘right-wing‘ evil is prevailing and it’s all ‘their’ fault.

      I think it’s probably a move to “force” (designed that way) the people to cry to the government to intervene, by the very people who have instigated these clown acts of occupy.       Fed up, I was thinking as you are but looked at some vids myself. With cell phone cams everywhere I think we and the world will see alot more to come. One video showing a retired vet in particular grabbed me to some degree. Youtube is loaded with violence from police against protesters. Will we be out fighting for our rights when things go down and the current admin remains in power?

      I look at history and I just shake my head in disbelief that so-called normal ppl could turn so evil. (Or at least…go along with it.) So I’m sure in time, we’ll see this manifested in mass ourselves. (the way things are going).
      I just pray that most of us in America have been taught better and remember who we are and what we’re made of…..putting a quick stop to mass evil in any form.

      I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina and I can tell you from first hand experience that most mountain folks, natives and newbies, have been planning for trouble since Obama won the White House. I’m here to report to you… We do NOT want anything bad to happen, but if it does and the City folks start heading out our way they WILL BE stopped. You would be amazed at the arsenals that private owners have here in my area. These are NOT trouble making criminal types, these are good people that want to protect their family and their property. And for the most part they just want to be left alone. To this end they will defend the little they have because these montains are home to them, and has been home to generations prior. If some of you city folks think you will be able to come out to the country and take our food, you had better re-think the idea. You may get here but the odds are against you ever returning home.
      Now let‘s all pray it doesn’t come to that. One way to keep this from happening…. FIRE OBAMA!

      Gth — If a regional war commenses (the opening moves of WW3) in the area of Europe, there is one thing so many people are overlooking; two of the main nations – France and Britian, are NUCLEAR armed countries (Regional powers).

      If any one or coalititon of local European nations moves on either of them, and say comes close to the success of the WW2 invasion/conquest of France by Germany, it will have a great chance of going full nuclear — and the bloodbath will be beyond imagination.

      Anymore it is not a matter of IF there will be a third world war; it is to me just a matter of WHERE and WHEN the final trigger point will be set off, and the inevitable begins.

      No one wishes the start of another world war – but I think you are right. Not that I am promoting the idea by saying this, but I think we are overdue for a major conflict. As a realist, the world population can only seem to go so long without trying to kill itself every generation or two.

      It only took a bullet to spark WWI. I sometimes wonder if that is all it will take to spark a new world conflict… something, in the grand scheme of things, so trivial.

    The dem lib, socialist agenda worked as long as they had people and countries willing to buy their debt. That time has passed. Greece ,Italy, Spain can’t give away their government bonds. How long until the USA is in the same situation?

    What is the dem lib, socialist answer to this problem? Spend, tax, print phony money, spend, tax, print phony money and hope it all doesn’t collapse while they are still alive.

      Only a bunch of putzes would put it this way. Thinking the unthinkable, as the morons put it, means planning multiple decades in advance. This could entail examining the historical record and seeing if the central bank policy of uniform monetary inflation is actually prudent or not. On the contrary, it is disastrous; at least for the poor schlubs who allow the nexus of banking and government to prevail in their country.

So pack up and leave IRELAND who clearly has a proper grievances more so the Palestinians’ (PLO, freedom fighters??) who never had a country.       With almost 70% of your fuel imported and 1/5 of your food imported and half of your country non american, then factor in the amount of wars you have waged on the world, i would be more worried than us over here in blighty. You would do well not to boast too much, less you can protect your own ass.

      Your country is in a solid mess at the moment, and BHO has hardly got the true Americans in his heart now has he. Me thinks all the mates he has allowed into the USA in his term so far, and the

      You’re right. They have no idea what it will be like. You need a bare minimum of a years worth of food, a reliable clean water source and most of all the know how and firepower to keep someone else from making your stuff his. A gun and a weeks worth of MREs won’t cut it. For those in the cities, I pray you have the foresight to have already secured a secluded location at least 1 tank of fuel away from the city. The cities will become giant death zones.

      You are so right, when WROL happens here in America you need to be as far away from ANY MAJOR city as you can get. What i find funny about the armchair “Rambo” warriors, is the fact that they don’t know what it means to take a human life, they think it’s going to be all fun and games like a video game, IT’S NOT!

      You not only need the tools (AR 15) but most importantly you need the mind set that you are willing and able to kill to protect your food and water from others who will KILL YOU AND ALL OF YOUR FAMILY to get what they want.

      In a WROL setting the most important thing is to be already LONG GONE from the city BEFORE the city descends into WROL conditions. So you need to have a plan already in place and once you start to see conditions getting bad make your move then, it would be much better to spend a few days in the country as a mistake then to wait too long in the city and not be able to get your family out.

      So you need to set some trigger points and once you see those trigger point happen, LEAVE don‘t wait saying to yourself that it can’t get any worse, thinking i will stay one day longer to see if it gets better, waiting for it to get better COULD and most likely will cost you and your family your lives.

      Have a plan, practice it, STICK TO IT, it could very well save your life.

      korbin – yes you are exactly right, but I have prepared as best I can anyway…I will most likely vomit or soil myself when it happens, but I am spiritually, mentally and physically prepared to do the best I can for my family. I will NOT go quietly into the night my friend, no matter how dark it gets. I could care less if it is an anarchist or a blue berret coming to my house, they will be equal opportunity targets!

      There‘s a website I found by a guy who lived through the Yugoslav Civil Wars of the 1990’s It’s called “SHTF School”. In it, he describes what it was like to live through a “SHTF” scenerio for real for about a year. Pretty bleak, but if he and others survived it, We can too. Just keep your faith in the Big Guy upstairs and prepare for the worst…And yeah, but more bullets.

    What do you expect when you have all these lazy welfare socialistic ways of life. America is not immune. Congress and the president need to go. Clean house now, start over, balance the budget, stop all free money, and put in a verification system to ensure no one is getting tax dollars that does not need absolutely. Especially immigrants on any form of assistance. No more passing any new laws, enforce the ones we have. No more pay for congress, illegal insider trading stops. All financial information for every Government worker made public 100% so we can all see where all of our tax dollars are going. This is a start. No more foreign aid for one year until all can be verified. make all the countries fulfill their obligation prior to obtaining aid. No results no money.

      Yes, it all should be stopped and a general restart of the country should take place. The problem is that the corruption has become so widespread and so engrained in our politicians thinking (they are so elite now that they no longer realize their own corruption) that in order for it to be stopped much vilolencemay possiblyl insue. A meltdown of the government would be a good thing if not for the very real threat of a foreign power takeover. UN troops would be sent in to calm the rioting and “restore order.”

      To be honest the U.N wouldn’t stand a chance outside of the cities. Bubba will be waiting for them with his M2 50 cal shoulder mount, LoL.       I don’t think it will get to that point because they would have to use our own military against us and I cant see a son of a patriot ever raising a weapon against an American on our own soil.       I am a diabled vet and have been fighting for my disability for more than 20 years now and am still looking at being turned away again. I am losing my home due to the incompetance of BofA and the loss of my businesses and clients going out of business. If things don;t get better I wont have anything left to lose. I have my back against the wall and am hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. I am a law abiding citizen with a patriotic belief that we will endure this storm. God help us all!

      The rioting, disobedience and civil unrest, as of now, has been carried out by peoples that are not starving. When the food is either not there or completely unaffordable, then the real rioting will start. What we have seen in recent months could be looked upon as a class of 1st graders on field day as compared to a prison inmate uprising. People are dangerous and violent when their hungry. When those people see their loved ones starving, well, many will kill to save them. A year before the completely misguided OWS protestors took to the streets to accomplish absolutely nothing, I was preparing. When TSHTF, and it will, those OWS protestors will be falling like flies.

      People can go 40 days without food. But they cant stand 40 days of their kids crying. They will kill for food after about 3 days.
      Glad I dont live in a big city. I wouldnt have enough ammo to ward off the treat suckers.
