Broadway Will Turn Some of New York’s First Gay Marriages Into Theater Event

NEW YORK (The Blaze/AP) — It‘s no secret that Broadway holds a special place in the heart of New York’s gay community. So, it comes as no surprise that some of the state’s first gay marriages will literally be a theatrical event. According to Ology:

The Broadway community has been celebrating the legalization of gay marriage in the state of New York ever since the news broke a couple of weeks ago. And to really put the frosting on the cake, the St. James Theater, currently home to the limited summer revival of “Hair,” will usher in several of the first gay marriages taking place in New York City…

The nuptials are scheduled to take place on July 25, the day after gay marriage becomes legal in the state.

Rory O’Malley, a star of “The Book of Mormon” and a co-founder of the gay-rights group Broadway Impact, said several gay couples from the Broadway community will be married on stage right after that evening’s performance of “Hair.”

“It’s not just a summer of love,” he said at a press conference Wednesday in front of the St. James Theater, where the touring revival of the hippie musical has landed. “It’s a summer of equality.” Watch the press conference, below:

Other theater celebrities on hand for the announcement included Joel Grey from “Anything Goes,“ the cast of ”Hair“ and Will Swenson from ”Priscilla Queen of the Desert, the Musical.”

“Theater people tend to shoot our mouths off about everybody,” said Oskar Eustis, artistic director of the Public Theater. “But there’s absolutely one subject that the theater actually has an expertise in: We know that gay and straight equality is not simply a political opinion. It’s an existential fact. We prove it every day of our working lives.”

Jordan Roth, president of Jujamcyn Theatres, which owns and operates the St. James, said he was proud to be able to host some of the first same-sex weddings in New York state. He said there was a natural connection between the theater and weddings.

“The theater is the place where we come together to celebrate and affirm who we are as a people. It is the place where we stand in front of our community on a stage and we speak our truths. That‘s what theater is and that’s what a wedding is.”

New York will become the sixth and largest state with legal gay marriage when the law takes effect after the stroke of midnight signals the beginning of July 24, a Sunday.

WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! Gay couples now get to know the joy and mostly pain of being legally married like the rest of us heterosexuals. Enjoy divorce lawyers and probate court.

Encinom- God creates humans. not heterosexual or homosexual people.
He then entitles them freedom, to make choices for themselves. Don‘t confuse someone’s choice with our God’s creation. When I commit a sin, I don‘t say ’I was born like this’
because, I wasnt born a sinner. i was born into a sinful world.
you aren’t born gay, you’re born into gay world.

      @encinom

You’re so ignorant! You are so locked up in your puny petty liberalism you should be ashamed.

Just because a person is ‘born’ a certain way doesn’t require he act out accordingly. By your insanity, serial killers should be let off the hook because ‘that’s the way they are’. Read up on that like I have, and your entire argument goes where it belongs.

You and your pitiable holier-than-thou liberal sanctimony go to blazes with half a second of thought. Spare us, we who have brains, the ‘born-with’ excuse.

Well, then again, you libs are the ones who fight to ‘save’ brutal child-rapist/murderers from the death penalty, because they were ‘born that way’.

      Pffft!

Encinom… Born that way?? Hmm I knew a few gays, and everyone of them was sexually assaulted by grown men when they were children. Everyone of them had there sexual identity destroyed and didn’t know where they fit. So don’t tell us that gays are born that way. Becuse they are not. I had a gay boss, who is now dead because he hung himself who was raped by another man as a child.. he told me he became gay because of it, He simply said that his sexual identity was destroyed. Eventually he could not take the lifestyle anymore and killed himself. You people cannot categorize all gays at being born that way!

Encinom…it is true…we are born into sin, but we are also born with free will. Homosexuality is an abomination to God. It is not just a sin. It is something that He hates. We have free will to choose Him or not. If we do choose Him, then we are obedient to His will. We have the freedom of choice as to whether we even have sex, period. The bible says that fornicaters, adulterers, homosexuals, liars, thieves, revilers , idolators, and drunkards will not enter the kingdom of heaven, for some of you were these, but you repented and turned away from it. I choose God. For if you live for fleshly desires here on earth, that will be your reward. I choose Jesus/Yeshua. I want heaven.

This is like reporting Soetoro is a commie.
Or reporting on homosexuals who say they are happy.
Now if you want to really report something that is worthwhile, find some sad homosexuals and ask them why they are not happy.

It never ceases to amaze how homosexuals say they were born that way, How do they know? I have never seen a gay baby. Choices are not made by feelings, feelings can be controlled. , That lifestyle is a choice based on feelings somewhere down the line, There are many days I do not feel like going to work, but I do not let that feeling control my choices.

The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary of 1973 features several meanings and variations (in chronological order) but does not mention the meaning of homosexuality.

      light-hearted, exuberantly cheerful
      airy, off-hand
addicted to social pleasures, immoral (Immoral can mean a man cheating on his wife or at cards

Marriage between man and woman is a fundamental building block of our society and a cherished institution for that simple reason. And that goes with out saying that I know with out question that there is a God and that He (God) ordained marriage to be between man and woman because that union is fundamental to his purposes. Should we attempt to frustrate Gods purposes, than you can expect that in not many generations to come the devastation’s of the past and the destruction foretold will commence. America is un-like other civilizations, we are covenant nation similar to that of Israel of old. Should we as a nation reject God and therefore our national covenant with God, we will be cursed just as Israel of old was.

Basically what that means is that God holds us to a higher standard than other nations or that he has high expectations for us as a people. It is time we do our research and discover this truth. The founders knew it, Abraham Lincoln knew it but today we do not learn about these things. Might I suggest a new Book called “The American Covenant” by Timothy Ballard. I helped editing of this 2 volume work and I recommend it to everybody.

I wonder if there will be as much theater when the divorces come, and child-custody battles erupt, and the issues of property and who brought what into the ‘marriage’.

The MSM loves a good dirty divorce among Hollywood and other fat-cat celebrities. Will they drool the same way over the celebs they are trying to manufacture here?

Hmmm…just reading about the archaelogical finds of the biblical cities of Sodom & Gomorrah – you know, the ones destroyed mainly bc their population was filled with blatant immoral lifestyles, especially homosexuality……
“Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground..” Genesis 19:24, 25 KJV)

Biblical archaeologist, Ron Wyatt discovered the ruins of Sodom and Gomorrah southeast of the Dead Sea in 1989. These devastated Mesopotamian style cities were covered with millions of partially incinerated sulfur balls and tons of ash. Clearly defined walls, some thirty to forty feet high can be found among the ruins.

Evidence of heat exceeding 4000 degrees Fahrenheit can be seen in the rock strata and ruins throughout the cities. Comparable destruction can also be found at the epicenters of nuclear detonations.

Such evidence validates the accuracy of the Hebrew Scriptures, and again shatters secular attempts to “mythologize” this ancient catastrophe.

      That’s not true.

There are no Sodom and Gomorahh sites that have ever been found by archaelogists.

Ron Wyatt was/is considered a charlatan by virtually all who study the region. He also claimed to have discovered the Ark, the Ten Commandments, The site of the Crucifixion of Jesus, grave markers and tombs of Noah and his wife, and whole slew of other things.

The guy was clearly a fraud and a crackpot.

Joe Zias of Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) summed it up best when he said that “Ron Wyatt is neither an archaeologist nor has he ever carried out a legally licensed excavation in Israel or Jerusalem. In order to excavate one must have at least a BA in archaeology which he does not possess despite his claims to the contrary. … [His claims] fall into the category of trash which one finds in tabloids such as the National Enquirer, Sun etc.”

And that’s from someone with a vested interest in these fables being true.

Encinom: God created everyone, including people who commit the most vile acts. That doesn’t mean He approves of everything they do. To take your argument to the next step, God created those who engage in bestiality. Does that mean the state should sanction marriage between species? If not, why not?
