Brokaw Fears Guns in Arizona: ‘I Would Be Nervous Going Into a Bar’

Transcript via Noel at Newsbusters

TOM BROKAW: Here is why I think there are a lot of Glocks being sold: because gun owners are worried that they’re going to be outlawed. That’s what happened when President Obama first took office is that people were buying ammunition and storing it in underground bunkers because they thought he was going to outlaw guns and ammunition. Gun control is too simple a phrase to define all the complications and nuances of it, frankly. In Arizona they have a wide open system. I would be nervous about going into a bar or restaurant in Arizona on a Saturday night where people can carry concealed without permits.

Why would he say such a thing? Nothing has changed and no one caused this but the mentally ill man. There will be, and always have been, mentally ill people among us. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Guns don’t cause these things, sick mentally ill people do, and criminals. Is he trying to say that we must get rid of all mentally ill people for him to feel safe? That’s the only way I know to take this comment. Guns have always been around. You try to enact gun laws that take away peoples’ right to own a firearm and you will see some really angry people and still, you will have the mentally sick people. In my opinion, perhaps someone should have been armed with a gun and taken this man dwon BEFORE he killed all these people and injured so very many. All people that have a gun are NOT crazy and one of them may have been able to take this man down before he did so much damage. Would he have all of us defenseless against this type of person? Would that make him feel safe? What a idiotic statement to make.

I guarantee you, the left progressives will use this tragedy to take away our Freedoms of Speech and Expressions, take away our rights to own guns. They were just waiting and are now foaming at the mouths like rabid animals at their chance. The gun, nor any comments made by anyone caused this man to be mentally ill, yet they are using this massacre as if it did. What does that tell you?
Further, the entire community, schools, college, teachers, neighbors, family, friends and entire SHERIFF’S department ALL knew this man was sick. If anyone needs to take responsibility, perhaps it is the Sheriff who did nothing all these years. Every single one of them knew and said this man was a danger, menace, made threats, was deranged and the deputies had been called to his home repeatedly for YEARS. It is hard for me to fathom an entire community, town, not doing anything yet they all knew. Now they want to blame it on rhetoric? Oh yes…distract and place the blame on everyone else. Frankly, I haven’t haerd anyone saying or encouraging these kinds of things, the exact opposite. Except for the Far Left and Panthers, Piven and Jones. Oh, let us not forget a few others like Bertha Lewis and the Acorns ( the real nuts) in her midst. This is absurd.

The reason that gun control is pushed is because it is a way to get to the end result…controling the people.

I know many people who carry firearms, & none of them have ever fired a shot in anger…neither have I for that matter. Here is the truth though…most of us can’t afford security guards, we have to rely upon ourselves for defense, the police, & I have great respect for the police, are reactive. They show up after a crime is committed; that’s great to prevent the next criminal act, it doesn‘t help if you’re now surrounded by a chalk outline.

The other reality is this, so called “nut-jobs” seem instictively to know where people are not likely to be armed. When was the last time there was a mass-shooting at a gun show, or a police station, or a bar frequented by off-duty police? When that happens I’ll start believing in the insanity defense!

My take exactly! And doesn’t Obama want a “national military (militia)”? Is that to control the unarmed masses; or force the law-abiding citizens to turn over their weapons? Maybe both.
Criminals and terrorists could give a rats behind what or how many gun laws are put in place…they go underground; black market, or steal the weapons they want. And you don’t need a gun to kill someone!

I am more nervous going into a bar where people are not supposed to carry. Being a licensed law abiding gun owner myself, I hate going into places where I am not allowed to carry my gun. What if there is someone in there who is carrying were they shouldn’t and gets mad and pulls? Think they are going to give me a time out so I can go get my piece out of the truck? An armed society is a polite society. In a place were anyone can be carrying a fire arm, those who wish to do harm are going to be less likely to start trouble for fear that their victim might be able to turn them into a statistic.

MANNX, great comments. Our Country has MAD. Mutually Assured Destruction. You know, Nuclear Arms. The new Treaty START Obama just demanded to be passed in the Senate, and it did. When everyone is mutually assured they will suffer the same consequences as everyone else, it keeps them in line.

If Mr Blochow is refering to my downstairs closet as my “underground bunker”, then yes Tom, i am storing ammunition in my underground bunker. Do you know why Tom? Becuase I fully expect ammunition to be taxed in the coming years by people who claim they don’t want to take away our guns but are perfectly happy to tax the ammunition in to the stratosphere!

Also Tom, why are you concerned about a fellow citizen who has passed an FBI background check to legally carry a firearm to protect themselves and their family? Do you have bodyguards Tom? Do they carry firearms to protect you? If so, why would you denegrate your less well to do neighbors the right to protect themselves? I know its a silly question but are you a hypocrite Mister Blochow?

Ask the following question. “What is the difference between someone who goes crazy, gets a gun, kills 6 people, wounds 13 and someone who goes crazy, gets into a car, drives onto a sidewalk, kills 6, wounds 13 people? I have found most will say the gun when there is no difference because 6 died and 13 were wounded. Many have been taught to believe guns are evil and cars are good that can’t be used for evil.

Thank God for the constitution, something Tom’s over educated pudding brain needs to read, which at least makes an attempt to stop progressives like him; temporarily. It’s true The Third Archon guns do make it easier to kill someone; but being a woman sharing a home with my elderly mother, the gun helps equalize things. Ever see the results of someone that was beaten with fists, bat, or rock? I have the right and duty to protect myself & family. You don’t want a gun to protect yourself, that is fine. But don’t take my choice away….and keep in mind that calling 911 will only guarantee that the police will get there after the crime, in time to investigate.

Disabledvet, nicely said and well put. Our concealed-carry laws here in Texas aren’t as strict as yours, but consumption of alcohol while carrying is a serious offense. We’re not even legally allowed to carry in an establishment whose sale of alcohol is greater than 51% of their total sales. They must have a sign posted stating such. Common sense these like this, and most things concerning firearms, seem to completely elude the liberals and their ilk. By the way, I love your beautiful state; I hunted there this year. They say everything is bigger in Texas. Apparently that doesn’t include deer.
