Buddhist Mystic Gives Reporters a Tour of Hell

“Heaven” and “hell” are spiritual realms that most living beings can only dream and theorize about. Sure, there are descriptions in religious texts and general notions about what occurs in both spheres. And there are a plethora of individuals who claim they’ve “seen the light” after surviving near-death experiences. But there are no universally-accepted descriptions about what, exactly, goes on in the afterlife.
That being said, Master Kek Eng Seng, a Buddhist medium who is part of the Tze Bei Guan Yin Dhamma Center in Georgetown, Malaysia, claims that he has the ability to travel freely through both localities. Recently, the spiritual leader offered to take a group of 50, including news reporters, along with him on his mystical journey.

Master Kek Eng Seng opening the "gates to hell"
More than 200 people from across Malaysia registered for the trip, including, as Beliefnet reports, Beh Yuen Hui of the Asia News Network and Chiang Kee Chuan from China Press.
In the end, though, this large group was parsed down to just 50. People were removed from the participation list during a screening process that relied on birth dates that were unfavorable to the timing of the tour. Additionally, women were were pregnant or who had their period were turned down (the reasons for these inclusions were not explicitly stated).
On AsiaOne.com, Beh share’s an account of the experience:
As night fell, the group, all clad in white shirts symbolising purity and sincerity, gathered at Padang Brown in Georgetown for the “tour”.
After some prayers and rituals, we were all set to start our journey at around 10.15pm.
My eyes were covered with a paper talisman wrapped in a yellow cloth. Then, the lights were switched off.
As I listened to the chants by Master Kek, my head became very hot, as though there was a stream of warm air trying to get out of my body through the top.
(Master Kek later explained this by saying that my soul was trying to get out of my body.)

In the end, the majority of the participants, including Beh, didn’t experience hell as they had hoped they would. But 12 people, including Chiang, did, indeed, report seeing the great down under. Beh reports on some of these experiences:
“I saw a rainbow hanging on a beautiful sky, and a monk advised me to become a vegetarian,” [Chiang] said.
Another woman, who declined to be named, said she saw many ‘people’ at a pasar malam (night market). [...]
Another female participant said she saw her departed mother from a distance, but she could not go near and speak to her.
Interestingly, these images seem more in line with the peace that is often ascribed to heaven. Rather than a deluge of pain and suffering, those participants who allegedly saw hell seemed to have a somewhat favorable experience.
The process, which took a little over an hour, is apparently going to be repeated in an effort to give the other 38 individuals the opportunity to experience the rainbows, vegetarianism and visions of lost loved ones that were purportedly witnessed by the “lucky” 12.

Posted on September 6, 2011 at 9:08amBack on track … there is no hell. ‘Hell’ is nothingness. The rest of us have a chance at everlasting life. “This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.” John 17:3. Join me? P.S. I am not Mormon.

I could put up 100′s of verses and even whole chapters that speak of hell. Almost all speak of it as a place of torment.
Jesus spoke of hell as much as heaven.
Is John 17:3 the only verse you ever read?

Posted on September 6, 2011 at 2:18pmSick is right. Eternal fire is best translated to unquenchable. Its a common misconception that hell is eternal but a loving God does not delight in torture. The best example is Sodom and Gomorrah, they were burnt up and were never rebuilt. Just the same as what will happen to sin and the sinful.

Posted on September 7, 2011 at 5:23amEternity is not a segment of time but simply Un-relative Oneness with the Eternal One. There is no eternal place of torment but one day the Eternal Fire of the Truth is going to destroy all illusion along with those who decided to walk in it because it suite the lust and desire of self and they will cease to exist even in memory after judgment.
Those who PRACTICE sin shall not enter into the kingdom of Heaven.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (New American Standard Bible)

But, it says in the Bible that during the 3 days before the ressurection that he went into hell to get people and bring them back. They were seen by witnesses who saw them walking in the streets once Jesus came back to his disciples. Only Jesus could do that, not Buddha, not Moroni, Mohammed or Michael. Posted on September 7, 2011 at 7:58pmI believe in Hell in the after life, but I also can be sure it is no worse than the Hell found in ones life. That is, the Hell ones actions lead them to. I am talking being so severely wrapped in addiction, trying to end my life but not having the courage to do it. Waking up every day to the horrible reality that I am still alive and must live through another day. A time when to live was to suffer. YEs, the chains of Satan that bound me could have produced a place no worse than that of which I have already walked. A place I choose to never visit again, certainly not for an eternity. If one can not feel, then they can not suffer. So I had always pondered upon the idea that Hell in the after life must be subject to the laws of the material world. Otherwise, suffering and torture would not be possible. Just as Adam and Eve couldn’t have know good and bad as they existed in the Garden of Eden, I suspect Heaven will be a place free of the ailments of our human condition. To exist absent knowledge and only to know wisdom.

This article would seem to have the intention to poke fun at Buddhism, but just as there are many Christian sects that are a bit off the wall, so there are people who claim to be Buddhist who don’t really follow the teachings of Buddha. As a Jehovah‘s Witness you may believe that the Catholic Church’s view of Jesus Christ is incorrect, but that shouldn’t detract from the teachings of Jesus. In the same way just because some people interpret the teachings of Buddha a certain way or bow before a statue of him does not mean that his teachings were incorrect.

Posted on September 6, 2011 at 6:49amIf he’s a Buddhist, is it the chick with 8 arms or the elephant or fish person that’s their god?
Report Post »QuestForCertainty
Posted on September 6, 2011 at 9:11amMaybe we shouldn’t be so quick to judge? One of the basic beliefs in Buddhism is to seek truth, illustrated in this quote: “Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.” When religions or cultures are ridiculed because of a lack of understanding of their beliefs, we are putting forth the same negativity we are so quick to condemn when it is pointed at our own beliefs.
In addition the “chick with 8 arms”, etc. that you are bringing up are Hindu deities not Buddhist. These images are rooted in ancient mythology and represent various aspects and characteristics of one God. Despite so many representations of god, Hinduism is ultimately monotheistic and there is a strong belief God and God’s grace is in everything. Once again ridiculing what we don’t understand is disrespectful of an ancient religion and culture that has survived since before our recorded history.
We get upset when negative and condescending statements are made about Christianity or even the Tea Party, but too often we don’t give the same respect and open mindedness that we want for ourselves. Even seemingly innocent “trying to be funny” comments feed the separation and hate we see across the globe. You have the freedom of your beliefs and the freedom of speech to question others but you also have the responsibility to do so with truth.

As I do with those who need information about the Christian or Jewish religions when disrespectful comments are made about them, allow me to extend a bit of information. Shiva’s (eight arms) depiction, as Ganesha’s (elephant) are metaphorical. As with most of us who practice religions who incorporate Gods (or a God) into our prayers, we are not praying directly to these depictions. They are simply a point of focus.

Posted on September 7, 2011 at 10:09am@Greenwood….if you would make the statement that “God and Jesus are in my heart” would you be making an idol of an organ in your body? Or is an acceptance of God being everywhere and his spirit is manifesting himself in you. When you go to church and sit in contemplation at Jesus on the crucifix and try to fathom the enormity of his sacrifice as an expression of love, is that Idolatry? (Hint: answer is no)
As we obviously can see throughout the world religion and faith can be hijacked and used as an instrument of hate. But it doesn’t take murderous tyranny to cross the line, the seeds are planted when we are unwilling to accept and understand that God can be worshiped in different ways.

I would invite you to do some research on the origin of the English word “hell”.
When you do you will find that the original Hebrew word translated into English (hell) is Sheol.
And the Greek word translated into English is Hades.
The meaning of the word Sheol and Hades is the same meaning; The grave, pit, or burial in the ground.
Now, when you read in any Bible (even yours) and find the English word “hell”, know that the meaning of the mistranslated word “hell” is “GRAVE”, not a burning torture.

You refer to eternal life, you have to realize life & death speak to the physical realm not the spiritual realm. If you die right now (God forbid) your soul would go to heaven or hell. Jesus’s resurrection defeated death & he now reigns in Heaven with his resurrected body. The rest of us will receive a resurrected body at Jesus’s second coming. Alot of people would disagree with this but I BELIEVE Romans 11:15 speaks of this also when this will ocurr is when the Jewish nation is converted to Christianity. The souls that are in hell right now will also receive a body again –but their eternally dead. Posted on September 6, 2011 at 12:58amIf you believe in God, then you must believe that you have a soul. How else could you “go to heaven or hell”, if you didn’t have a soul to go there? Human flesh isn’t present in either place. I haven’t been to either place, but my soul escaped my body when I was five years old, so I know that I have a soul, just as everyone else does.
The phrase that “We are made in God’s image” doesn’t refer to our physical form, but refers to our spiritually. God is not a human being and does not have a physical form. Although we think of “him” as our Father, this is not in any physical sense, but as the Creator of our souls.
The Bible says that God created “man” and I believe that he created everything, but I also believe that evolution was involved, and THEN God decided to give the human race – Souls.

Although I personally reject evolution your idea could very well be the case. I do not think anybody knows for sure. I do not find the bible saying one way or the other regarding evolution; just that the first male human was Adam and the first female human was Eve and that God divinly created them for a divine purpose and gave them souls.
I knew a person who came unto God through a solu leaving exerience. In his case his body was shot. He was high on cocaine and I something else, probably drunk on booze. He remembered seeing his body, got scared and a voice asked if he wanted to stay or return. He responded that he had to go back and in an instant he awoke.
Although I do listen to these stories somewhat skeptically, I’ve no doubt as to what he told me. Glad to read that you leanrend something good from your experience as well.

Report Post »It’s an Illustration or parable…………..The rich man was the religious leaders, Pharisees, Sadducees and the chief priest as well. Lazarus represented the common people which were looked down on and hungered for spiritual norishment. They symbolize classes of people. The bosom of Abraham was his position. A position of favor and the rich manin figurtive torment.
Father Abraham…………………send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue,
Also Abraham must have a pretty big bosom everyone in heaven there
Jesus is illustrating a reversal of the Lazrus class and the rich man class which takes place with the new covenant and Pentecost 33
They have Moses and the prophets; let them listen to these (the 5 brothers) his religious allies
Jesus often would speak in illustrations it was how he taught. Like the wheat and the weeds, the lost sheep, Prodigal son, etc.

Rich man = well to do
poor man = not so well to do
Rich man = hell
poor man = heaven
position in life means nothing…. the first will be last. and the last will be first… do you know this verse??? Another one … what good does it do for a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul.
Ironic = rich man is now asking poor man for help (complete opposite)… see verse above
dip finger in water = extreme torment… please see other verses that speak of hell… in fact see parables since you know them so well
rest of parable = unrepentant hearts
WHY DO YOU MAKE IT WHAT IT IS NOT… it is what it is …jeeeeeesss. Do you do that with all the parables?

I know what a parable is…. ……………..Do you?
Parable = Allegory…………..A story in which people, things, and happenings have another meaning, often morally instructive, as in a fable.
It’s not about the position in life, ……….the first will be last and the last will be first ……..That is the dramatic reversal between The Lazarus class (Jesus’ disciples) and the rich-man class, the symbolic great chasm that separates them represents God’s unchangeable, righteous judgement.
The rich man request “father Abraham” send Lazarus to the house of my father, for I have five brothers.” The rich man thus confesses he has a closer relationship to another father, Satan. The rich man request that Lazarus water down God’s judgement messages so as not to put his 5 brothers in this place of torment. But Abraham said, They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to these.

IT DOES NOT HAVE ANOTHER MEANING… it means what it says. Have you not ever spoken in parables to make a point?
Oh, and by the way I said that I know what a parable is = means = represents. Did not need to look in the dictionary, yet you still found it necessary to TELL me….???
You also said… ” I don’t know about you but I believe”….. Maybe you should make a little attempt next time before you talk AT me to “know” me….. ( cont.) “in a God of love not one that tortures someone forever”.
You mention judgement= God’s justice….what if it is forever?, because I can use many, many verses that say it is, in fact this parable would indicate that very thing, as do others.
So my question to you is this…. where is Lazeras?, where is the rich man? I believe that you contradict yourself in your own reply, and I find a number of parts that I would humbly disagree with. But I could be wrong, at any rate; God can do whatever He wants any way he wants and it’s just!

Can you clean up your last comment? It is very confusing in its structure.
Lazarus and the rich man in Jesus’ illustration; they are fictitious individuals created by Jesus to illustrate or tell a story to get people to think outside of the box. He was addressing the crowd hoping that some of them could think in spiritual terms not in fleshly ways.
Report Post »4truth2all
Posted on September 8, 2011 at 4:12pmYo Bearfoot:
What is it that is not clear?
In both of my posts I indicated that it is a parable. I even wrote out the meaning of a parable.
It is as you say a fictitious story to illiustrate A TRUE SITUATION! There is no need to think “outside the box”.
We should ALWAYS think in spiritual terms, and I am fully aware of what Jesus was doing.
“A parable” … If you go into the house of a another, and it is dirty and in disarray make an offer to help him clean it up. If he refuses your offer, make a second attempt. If he again refuses leave the man to himself……My parable explains itself. You do not need that and this, or this or that . Do not ADD to what Jesus says.It causes problems. My suggestion is exactly the opposite …stay in the box and let the spirit lead.

Posted on September 8, 2011 at 6:00pmYO @4Truth2U…….you said………We are spirits in a body
not a body that has a spirit.
there is a difference
Psalms 104: 29 If you conceal your face, they get disturbed.
If you take away their spirit, they expire, and back to their dust they go.
Psalms 146: 4 His spirit [ru'ach] goes out, he goes back to his ground;
In that day his thoughts do perish.
James 2: 26………..the body without spirit [pneu'ma] is dead.
Spirit = Hebrew (ru’ach) & Greek (pneu’ma) translated also “force” or life force that animates all living creatures. The body dies and the spirit returns to the true God who gave it. This does not mean that the life force actually travels to heaven. At the time of the resurrection the spirit or life force will be given back so that a person sleeping in death may live again. John 5: 28,29
God’d power will form a new body and bring it to life by putting spirit, or life force in it.
Believe what you want about hell your own pride won’t let you see the obvious truth.

Posted on September 6, 2011 at 12:39amThis is nothing more than a guided meditation with a goal and a method. No true meditation is guided, has a goal or a method. Whenever one subscribes to a step-by-step process to get from one place to another it is just Ego. It might be fun but, it’s not real. Whenever one tries to go from one place to another, in meditation, they have an idea or a set goal. The mere setting of this goal and the idea of it, will always limit one to where they already are… in thought. And meditation is awareness not thought. Awareness has no path, no goals, and no methods. If you seek Awareness you are coming from a point of lacking Awareness. Coming from a point of lacking you will find division because you want to be divided from where you are at. What something is… is what it extends.
But, I’m sure it was a fun ride for those who came to see Hell. Even I’ve been known to go to an amusement part from time to time. At least I know that I‘m in an amusement park when I’m there.
