‘Bull$#*! Question’: ‘Face the Nation’ Guest Slams Americans as ‘Lazy…Obese’

Mediate points out that the the shock moment on CBS News this morning may not have been so much the sudden use of an expletive by author Edmund Morris, as much as what he said right after that:
I see an insular people who are insensitive to foreign sensibilities, who are lazy, obese, complacent and increasingly perplexed as to why [Americans] are losing our place in the world to people who are more dynamic than us and more disciplined.
Wow tell us how you really feel Morris. Maybe if America gave him a sequel to My Cousin Vinny he would be happier with our country? What is sad though is that after hearing such a controversial statement, Schieffer suggests that it’s a good place to take a break. Really, just when the conversation was getting interesting?

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 3:45pmLazy, complacent, and obese exist in this country in no small part because of the horrible nanny state policies that have been pushed by the left for 50 plus years. Now the left wants to use the fruit of their policies (lazy, complacent, and obese) as a reason for fundamental transformation for us all. Clever, no?

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 3:09pmPerhaps he should take a road trip through this country and realize this nation is nothing like others. Geographically it’s insulated, so there is little exposure to other cultures in flyover country. Having exposure to other culutures is great if over cocktails, but it doesn’t make the food grow, or the oil come out of the ground.
Maybe if he opened his eyes on this road trip he’d see industrious hands producing goods, products and services he uses in his insular world. Maybe this would change his media-induced perception of lazy, obese Americans.
Perhaps he could explain to us why obese women are attractive to men on his home continent. Because fat people are perceived as healthy and disease free. And those people are few and far between. Should we take a page out of his continent’s sensibility on disease control? No thanks.
What productive service is turd offering our country anyhow? I‘m guessing he’s on some sort of government payroll. Just a guess.

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 2:59pmThis guy is SO screwed up.
We are perceived as fat in America because our citizens aren’t starving to death like other countries. We are considered lazy because our culture has developed many things to allow us to not have to work as hard as people in other countries to get the same things done. The problem is not Americans. The problem is politicians and media outlets that push these philosophical arguments that question our greatness as a nation. We, as a nation, have accomplished more in a shorter amount of time than any other nation on the face of the Earth.
No, sir, the problem isn’t normal everyday Americans, it’s YOU and your constant degradation of our society and exposure of every flaw that you hold no other country accountable for, and I, for one, am tired of hearing people like you talk down to us.

Seeing our nation through your eyes as a foreigner who has been naturalized to our country, I think you have a very narrow view of what America is and who represents her sir. Try looking past New York and California for your marginal comparison of who we are. Shame on you for accusing us of the same sin you are committing… jumping to conclusions about people you do not fully understand based on a biased and warped since of how the USA is not like your precious native Africa. If we are so bad, how is it you chose to live here? Is because you were run out of Africa to avoid being robbed and possibly killed by the law less governments there? Posted on November 28, 2010 at 2:47pmWhy are the most prominent critics of the United States, even going as so far as to hate us, immigrants to our country? Why did you come here if it is as bad as you say? Why are you still here if you hate it so much? I don’t get it. Only that it must be no one in their country of origin would listen to them but because we give a voice to everything here. This says more about America than anything, you can hate your own country, say so, and will not be thrown in jail. I think it is sad, however, that these people are in places of influence.
Conservatives better get used to being uncomfortable. In fact get comfortable being uncomfortable and then pursue these places of influence. We the common sense people, have ceded all of the centers of influence to the likes of this man. Government, grade schools teachers, universities, media, every place that has any influence is currently owned by progressives. Only radio is held by conservatives and the progressives in the influential FCC are looking to fix that. Re-enter the centers of influence. Progressives bullied out anyone that did not agree with them, and honestly it is our fault we are such wimps.
They threaten and harass and name call anyone who is a conservative, or a Christian, or libertarian etc. to discourage you from attaining a position of influence, and discourage anyone who supports those people. We have to become unresponsive to it. They have used the racist card so much does anyone really take it seriously anymore?

I thought this, what you posted, last year, and you’ve said it well, but I don’t completely agree with you anymore. It’s true the progressives have been lurking and positioning themselves to overtake us and have done quite well unfortunately, but I can’t say “That’s it, we’re done! Bend over now!” just because they’ve weasled in so much so far.
As disheartening as it may be to know and see, at least we DO KNOW and we DO SEE now. For once I recognize what it is that used to give me that confused and sick feeling. That kick in my solar plexus that was telling me all was not well but I couldn’t identify it. Thinking I was alone, or that if I wasn’t, there weren’t many “on my side” And I refuse to let this knowledge go now. I’m not taking my eyes off it. I am not complacent, I never was.
Thank God ALL IS NOT LOST

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 2:46pmYeah, very insular and insensitive all right. Whenever anybody needs help in the world, who is there first with the most? And who gives billions in foreign aid to those around the world? And who opens their markets to those who have more population, more land and have been in existence longer than the US by thousands of years? Yeah we are really selfish and insensitive all right. Our constitution does not allow for insensitivity. And we have to hear it from these intellectuals who think they know more than us because they are now “legal immigrants”. To begin with, they wouldn’t even be allowed to say that in most of the countries they are referring to. My question is: what have we done to be given such generosity of having them become US citizens?

Being a big guy that tips the scales at just over 400lbs. – I‘ve NEVER been one to just ’lay around.’ I work what amounts to two jobs, I do my own home repairs and remodeling, and I don’t pay someone else to do my grass. I will confess, I no longer change my own oil in the winter. There – now you know the awful truth, I‘m lazy on auto maintenance when there’s snow on the ground. Then there are some people who are just so busy with their lives (fulltime jobs and kids like my sister) who simply doesn’t have the time to keep up with all the political news. They aren’t looking for handouts, they just want good people to look out for their interests, and they should have that from a good republic, which is what we’re supposed to be.
Some people are terribly lazy, I only know a few though.
The first panelist had a point that rang true to me. To be a politician nowadays means to subject yourself to horrendous criticisms and therefore the slime tend to come to the top. Posted on November 28, 2010 at 7:03pmHe is correct.
The unemployment benifits make for complacency.
The complacency leads to obesity.
The welfare state make the sheep dumb and univolved in self governence.
He is Correct. End the welfare state and we can get back to these other attributes he so much admires in the other parts of the world. He has a great message and it is ours. Limited government and make your own way.

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 7:10pmLet’s not forget the role our government and its agencies have played in making much of this so. The dumbing down and fattening of lazy Americans have all begun with the government.

You nailed it!
Its obvious this elitist thinks highly of himself and considers himself ‘special’. These are the kinds of people that Obama wants to be like. Yuch, I would never break bread with this clown at my table, I prefer eating with real down-to-earth patriotic Americans.

Posted on November 29, 2010 at 3:12amI have to agree a lot with what he said. After having served over seas and seen how others have to struggle to make a living every day of their poor lives and in squalid conditions; we in America have it so well. Our poorest of poor have it far better then most third world countries yet they complain about not having a new large screen HDTV.

Posted on November 29, 2010 at 4:57amyes i can agree with him to a point. Americans have become lazy and appathetic, more so with our government than our daily lives. As for being overweight I don’t know about that I say to good living. I really not interested in the “worldly” view of life like for example global warming and socialistic ideas. I agree after working, overtime some days, taking care daily chores at home I can go to sleep with a clear mind.

Posted on November 29, 2010 at 3:12pmMaybe if the main stream media would actually give the news not just slanted for the progressives they would actually learn something about what is going on in our country. However, the gimmee people don’t want to give up their freebies. Someday they will find out that the taxpayers can only pay so much.

.
.
Complacency is a byproduct of entitlement attitudes. Why should I care about what ever is going on if the GOVERNMENT ELITES will ultimately make decisions for me over which it is very difficult for my ideas and opinions to be heard. And if the Government makes a mistake then it is there job to make it good—-in the words of Alfred E. Newman…..”What, me worry?”
I suppose this attitude will change when something really terrible happens, that seems to be the only time Americans seem to speak with one voice–eg 9/11. But we have short attention spans and thanks that can’t get fixed pretty quickly we get tired of…..unless we have another tragedy.
Good luck
RGS
