Bullet Tax?: Baltimore Mayoral Candidate Offers Unusual Crime Prevention Plan

If you plan to go shooting in Baltimore, it might be a little more expensive come this September.

Bullet tax baltimore otis rolley mayor candidate

WBAL-TV is reporting that Baltimore mayoral candidate Otis Rolley has unveiled a new proposal to add a $1 bullet tax to each round sold within city limits. This would be part of Rolley’s multi-pronged strategy to reduce crime in Baltimore, which also includes better training and standards for the Baltimore Police Department, working with the media to raise awareness of suspects at large, and reducing the number of vacant properties in the city.

Rolley, a Democrat who previously served as Baltimore’s planning director, believes a bullet tax will specifically  decrease random shootings around the city during holidays — and just generally up the price tag on gun related crimes.

“While the courts have consistently ruled against significant gun control legislation,” his plan states, “there is still a way to decrease crime: substantially increase the cost of its commission.”

It adds, “Increasing the cost of guns won’t work, because many criminals don’t purchase new guns, and they can be borrowed or even rented in some areas.”

Currently, 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition online looks to cost around $15.

Read the entire plan, here.

      And once again the libs and progressives attack law abiding citizens gun rights by taxing each bullet a dollar. Morons this will not stop the criminals from getting ammo, since they can’t legaly own a gun or are by definition a criminal, they will steal it. by keeping the law abiding citizens from buying ammo, you put them a a larger risk of violent in home crimes. History has proven this time and time again. Criminals don’t care about laws.

      Yeah, and it is also so very difficult to take a bus out of Baltimore to buy your ammo. Basically it will just devastate sportsmans’ shops and ranges inside of the city limits, and create a new black market for ammo. Great idea, that will solve everything.

      On a separate note, how do I know when I have enough ammo?

      All this would do is get more Cops killed. Every Police Car is a veritable rolling wharehouse of ammo. Most will have at least a couple hundred rounds on board, many have substantially more than that, several thousand rounds in some cases. At a buck a round+the base cost of the ammo, the thuggers would be making a really good score for every bubblegum machine they could crack and empty. I doubt they would hesitate to “Deal With” anybody that tried to stop them, Police or otherwise.

      @Drphil69,

      There is no such thing as “ENOUGH” Ammo, one firefight will give a whole new meaning to that concept. When the Crunch hits Ammo will be like your 401K, and worth times more than anything you ever paid for it. You won’t be able to buy a loaf of bread for money, gold or silver, But Ammo will be the number one Barter medium. I call it my 401G (gun) account. Been adding to it for 20 years now, and every round has appreciated way better than what the Money Jews have ever paid on their Phony Dollar investment scams.
      Buy all you can, as often as you can, and put it away. You are going to need it here pretty shortly.

Most gun Mfg‘s and amo mfg’s are working 24/7 and can’t keep up with demand. I got caught with low amo when obama was elected but not no more. Here in our town the Remington amo plant has hired over 50 employees since 2008. Overtime in volantary and because of the ercession most employees work on Sat and Sunday evening after church. The amo plant in McAlister, Oklahoma is the same way except they won’t pay double time on sunday.

    Cass sunstein’s plan in action. Nudge the people to what you want and make their choices for them. A little nudge here a little nudge there. Point and case- We know from his history Cass Sunstein despises the 2nd amendment right to bare arms. He knows he can never get a law to eliminate the 2nd amendment. So what does he do simple 1st he promotes regulations that hamper gun and ammunition manufacturers which drives up the cost of production this is passed on to the consumer in order to maintain a profit. Result fewer products are sold because of increased price resulting in fewer gun owners and ammunition supplies. 2nd make regulations to own fire arms more costly and time consuming so as to discourage applicants from attempting to gain permits. Result less people apply or purchase specific fire arms. 3rd Promote media biased reporting to sway public opinion to discourage potential gun owners from purchasing for fear of public opinion. Last frame and cast blame at gun retailers to press them out of business with public prejudice even using the DOJ to launder weapons into criminal hands solely to entrap retailers and gun rights advocates into looking negative in the public eye. Final result less gun owners and guns making it easier to ratify legislation to finally eliminate an amendment that is no longer relevant because you have manipulated (motivated) the choices.You can motivate people all you want when you are the one limiting and manipulating the choices.

      Yeah. “Arms” is capitalized in the actual text of the 2nd Amendment. that means it’s a “term of art”, meaning it has a specific meaning different from that of the dictionary definition of the word. The 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with your hands, elbows, shoulders, or any points inbetween.

      The founders knew Arms to mean any material resource by which a military organization performs the functions for which it was constituted. That includes firearms, gun powder, lead, wadding, ramrods, bayonets, and today, brass, primers, magazines, scopes, laser sights, lights, bipods, grenades, and at all times, tents, blankets, boots, bandages, wagons, horses, cannon, etc., etc.

      To claim that the 2nd Amendment only protects the right to keep and bear firearms while permitting the government to deny the people lead, gun powder, etc. is to ascribe to the founders the special kind of stupidity.

      First off, if you are going to try and insult my intelligence, try and get your spelling right. Second, taxing is not infringing, it‘s not saying you can’t HAVE the ammo, you will just have to pay some more for it.

      @LIBERALMARINE

      The definition of infringe is “to infringe is to encroach on a right or privilege.“ And the definition of encroach is ”To take another’s possessions or rights gradually or stealthily.” The taxation of bullets clearly fits within the definition of infringe. Just because you can still HAVE something (as you put it) does not mean it hasn’t been infringed. Legally this has long been settled. Otherwise we would still have laws that you had to pay a tax in order to vote – which used to exist but have long since been overturned.

      I won’t insult your intelligence; it is a logical impossibility to insult a non-entity.

      Like your informed and brilliant position. Let’s impose a poll tax of $200.00 to exercise the right to vote. No, wait, I seem to recall that poll taxes were struck down by the Supreme Court in a decision that essentially said that taxing a Constitutionally guaranteed right is, indeed, infringement, Duh, go figure.

      Ya know, ignorance is easily remedied. But, in the immortal words of Gen. Honore, “Don’t get stuck on stupid.” Words of wisdom that you should take to heart.

      If it’s a right, you can’t tax it. Voting is a right. That’s why poll taxes were shot down. The BATFE’s tax stamp for firearms is unconstitutional and with the snowball rolling downhill that is Heller and MacDonald, that will eventually be made plain.

      You can’t have a poll tax to vote.

      You can’t have a religion tax on Bibles.

      You can’t have a freedom of press tax on laser printers.

      And you can’t have a special ammunition tax.

      A tax that put in place to limit or inhibit all together a citizen’s purchase of any item is an infringement.
      It sole purpose is to stop a citizen from purchasing a product through attrition. Maybe they should put million dollars taxs on guns,sodas,suv’s,big mac and anything else they don’t want citizens to have.
      As a marine you took and oath to defend the Constitution but we all know what a liberals word is worth and since you put your poolitiucal ideology in front of your call of duty we know what you are.
      And btw I’m sure you truely are a marine……AND BY SURE I MEAN HIGHLY DOUBT.
