C.S. Lewis Schools Richard Wolffe on Sarah Palin

A few days ago we posted a segment from MSNBC’s “Hardball” program. Commentator Richard Wolffe exhibits a general cluelessness as to why Sarah Palin would find the writings of C.S. Lewis to be spiritually inspirational.

Our friends at BulletPeople (link below) have taken the opportunity to explore this topic.  It‘s not as traditional a news topic as we normally feature on our front page but I think you’ll find the insights to be pertinent.

You are absolutely right Red Blooded. What’s sad however, is that most of America along with the lame stream media also believe that CS Lewis only wrote the Chronicles and have no insight to his spirituality and deep rooted love for God.

GOD bless Sarah Palin and her family, she is an amazing role model for American woman, If I can turn out to be half the woman she is than I will be pretty amazing.

Wow! He thinks CS Lewis only wrote children’s books? He would enjoy reading many of these, even if he were not a Christian. CS Lewis is heavy reading, mostly for the advance reader, not for the faint-hearted, and always interesting. [buy used books at used.addall.com, which carries all of the used books stores in the world, maybe] If one has never read any of them, a good starting place is Mere Christianity. The Four Loves is Awesome. OH, I cannot choose a best one!

Here is a complete list of CS Lewis’ books; only 7 of them are considered children’s books.

    Nonfiction:
The Allegory of Love: A Study in Medieval Tradition (1936)
    Rehabilitations and other essays (1939)
    The Personal Heresy: A Controversy(1939)
    The Problem of Pain (1940)
A Preface to Paradise Lost (1942)
    The Abolition of Man (1943)
    Beyond Personality (1944)
    Miracles: A Preliminary Study (1947, revised 1960)
    Arthurian Torso (1948)
Mere Christianity (1952; based on radio talks of 1941-1944)
English Literature in the Sixteenth Century Excluding Drama (1954)
    Major British Writers (1954)
Surprised by Joy: The Shape of My Early Life (1955; autobiography)
    Reflections on the Psalms (1958)
    The Four Loves (1960)
    Studies in Words (1960)
    An Experiment in Criticism (1961)
    A Grief Observed (1961)
The Discarded Image: An Introduction to Medieval and Renaissance Literature (1964)
God in the Dock: Essays on Theology and Ethics (1970)
Studies in Medieval and Renaissance Literature (1966)
    Spenser’s Images of Life (1967)
Letters to an American Lady (1967)
    Selected Literary Essays (1969)
Letters to Malcolm: Chiefly on Prayer (1972)
    Of Other Worlds (1982; essays)
All My Road Before Me: The Diary of C. S. Lewis 1922-27 (1993)
Essay Collection: Literature, Philosophy and Short Stories (2000)

    Fiction:
    The Pilgrim’s Regress (1933)
    Space Trilogy

She puts herself out there and just keeps giving them ammunition. As least this time she did remember what she reads. Guess her teacher taught her that and how to remember. Wonder if she still remembers George Washington as being one of the favorite founders since glenn answered that question for her. Her trip to Haiti is the most pathetic of all. The quake happened in January and she is just now concerned about them – thinking this will win evangelicals over I guess. Everything she does is for her personal gain and the precious people of Haiti have had enough grief – they sure didn’t need her – sick of the photo ops.

This is a classic Leftist “debate” technique. When we say something, they come behind us and tell us what it meant, erecting straw men that can be easily burned down.

We protest against an over-centralized government that tries to regulate every aspect of our lives, and they tell us that what we REALLY mean is “We hate that black President”. Then they can simply dismiss us as racist, and never address our arguments. Wolffe conveniently pretends that the Narnia stories are the entire body of Lewis’ work, so that he can play into the “intellectually unserious” meme (”she gets her inspiration from CHILDREN’S STORIES!!!111eleventy”).

It was precisely this sort of sophistry Palin was afraid of when Couric asked her, and now they’ve proven her right.

Agreed. The Left has tried to not only control the debate but be in charge of “stating the Right’s case” so as to knock it down, when they never portray the other arguments correctly.

Conservatives want to stop spending so much = “the Right wants to starve the poor”

Keep the current tax rates = “Taking money from the poor to give to the rich”. I really wish someone on the Right had the cojones to get up and say “how can you be taking from the poor to give to the rich when almost 50% of Americans pay not Federal Income tax?

Defending our county = Republicans are war mongers.

It speaks volumes about these second rate intellectuals that they are only familiar with Lewis’ Narnia series. Someone should invite them down here to the deep end of the pool some time. But I doubt that they could handle it well. Why it could even lead them to Chesterton and who knows where after that. Then before they knew it they would realize how pathetically ignorant they really are.

It’s not very Christian to pick on someone. I think Atheist was pointing out that the liberal media is down to character assasination, because they haven’t any damning truths. This the same way they brought down Howard Dean to get him out of the way for the 2 Johns. Same thing with Chris Christie, they can’t find any political reasoning, so they attack his looks and his weight. This is why this article is important, because we cannot allow ourselves to be draw into what the bully says and does on the school yard and become part of the mob.

Atheist, look at John Kerry (remember he was in Viet Nam), he married his money. Obama’s dopes (oops, associates) all stick together and make sure each becomes rich, by hook or the taxpayer’s money.

@Foot Your irrational attacks are further proof that progressives only bother to attack those they fear. Sorry for the pun, but your arguements left you flat-footed. Please engage reason before you attempt to think. Otherwise, your head will hurt when your only two brain cells collide.

Nope, no law, but you’ll notice that the only religious conservatives who become rich are dopes. All other newly rich are insightful liberals, funny that, huh?

I was a huge Palin fan in the beginning. Voted Repulican in spite of my disgust w/McCain. Sent money to her PAC.

However, I began to wane when I read her first book. There was too much hyperbole about her nay-sayers. Her “need” to mock those who stand against her shows a personal weakness that eliminates her as a presidential candidate. She is not above the name-calling which brings politicians down to the level of gutter snipes.

Her reality show has sealed the deal for me. While it’s nice to see the beauty of her state, I see a family that is dis-engaged from one another, even while pretending to be one, big happy unit. The road trip in the motor home? Sara was always seen texting. Same with Willow. That’s not “family bonding.”

She is constantly talking about how whatever she is doing that week is a “family tradition” yet the show only highlights that the family has NOT been doing this activity together. Teaching Bristol to shoot? I thought she would be a pro by now. Same thing with gutting fish the other day — all the kids were trying to figure out how to do it. I would have expected there to be a production line where the kids worked right along with their parents, showing that this wasn’t anything new to them.

All in all, the show has given me more reasons NOT to vote for Sara if she decides to run. Her need to mention the unwanted neighbor (more than once) as well as the pot-shots about her being able to “see Russia” all point to an insecurity that is beneath a true leader of the caliber we need.

We need someone whose every-day life is not a promotional commercial. Someone who really understands that “family time” is not sitting in the same room while you’re texting someone else.

Sorry, but Palin has eliminated herself from the competition in my mind.

      @Atheist.
Look at Bill Clinton who one bobblehead on TV called the most revered and respected politician alive today. How quickly the Progs rewrite or whitewash their pasts and their cohorts in the MSM buy the line and push it! We can forgive, but we should never forget.

One other thing that has been glaring about the Palin Family on this reality show. Her kids don’t have any respect for her.

The middle girl, Willow, shrugged off her mom’s warning that no boys were allowed upstairs. The disrespect was glaring as the boy continued up the stairs in front of Sara and then Willow moaned and groaned. Made me wonder if this was a “new” rule meant for the audience and Willow was calling her mom out for equivocating on old family rules.

Piper has consistenly done the eye-roll and ignored her mom without punishment. In the first episode she called her mom Sara and while Sara said on camera that Piper uses this to get attention, it was obvious that the ploy works. Piper calls Sara by her first name and gets what she wants. Not a good example of leadership skills.

Piper is seen in an upcoming commercial doing her homework and wanting to cheat by using a calculator. Sara obligingly says, in a parental tone, that she can‘t use a calculator because it’s cheating. Piper goes on to use the calculator in her cell phone with immunity, showing that being devious has no consequences.

Yes, this show has shown me that Sara is likeable but not Presidential material. Let her continue her tweets and show-downs through Facebook. It gets the media going and highlights issues that otherwise might escape the masses who don’t have any other regular source of news.

But let’s get off the Sara for President bandwagon. If she doesn‘t have the stamina to risk her children’s ire by getting them to understand the rules of right versus wrong, I have no confidence in her ability to lead this nation out of a severe case of self-indulgence.

While The Lady Gov-was running for VP she was nothing. after the election it was noted how much attention she garnered. As Gov she was attacked, dragged into court and had to pay for her defense from personal funds. baseless suits that were thrown out. She left office-able to take off restraints-now she is really getting attention. Why? she is irrelevant?
the libs absolutely hate her. is she ready for the white house-probably not-however she can raise attention to issues and bring in the cash-while speaking up for The America we Love-without recourse.
Pretty smart for a DUMBIE-NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! all the while gaining $$$$ for a possible run down the road as a congresswoman or Senator-from NY????????

@Sheepdog911 Seriously? You’re punning my name and yours is -Sheep- dog. Fittingly dumbtastic.

Instead of falsely claiming I am being ‘irrational’ and getting all ad-hominem about my snippet of an opinion of Sarah Palin, reality teevee superstar and book mogul, why didn’t you even make a feeble attempt to refute my obviously true assertions about her? Not one sentence in my post is untrue. On the contrary, as a lifelong Republican conservative and Constitutionalist, I went easy on her. But you could not muster even one little tiny morsel of rebuttal and instead automatically go for the easy ‘progressive fear’ catch-all cop out?

      Oh. Right. -Sheep- dog. Nevermind.

Anyone who cannot see Sarah Palin for what she is all about, and that being all about Sarah Palin and only Sarah Palin, are all, in fact, sheep. dogs. The cult of personality got us what we currently have, and now you want to do it again. Fools.

      @ROWGUE
“Nobody actually thinks she’s dumb. It‘s the smokescreen democrats use when they can’t debate real issues. They just claim the person is crazy, racist, stupid or whatever other insult they can conjure up, and hope it distracts people long enough to influence an election.”

Actually, I DO think she’s dumb, and I think there’s ample objective evidence to support my view (which is shared by everyone who isn’t a Palin supporter, the majority, on the Left AND the Right, who will stop here from EVER running our beloved State into the ground).

C.S. Lewis was an avowed atheist… he so-called “Lion” is NOT a depiction of Jesus as the “Lion of Judah” …What would Jesus Christ have to do with WITCHCRAFT? People (regardless of age , rank, or position)who are delusional enough to get “spiritual encouragement” from ANYTHING written by a proponent of WITCHCRAFT…they need to open their KJ bible and READ if there is EVER ONCE any difference made between “White and Black” WITCHCRAFT… IMHOP!

C.S. Lewis was not an avowed atheist.

Note that one of his most famous works is the nonfiction book “Mere Christianity.”

The description of “Mere Christianity” on the C.S. Lewis website calls it “A forceful and accessible discussion of Christian belief that has become one of the most popular introductions to Christianity and one of the most popular of Lewis’s books. Uncovers common ground upon which all Christians can stand together.”

He also published a devotional bible called “The C.S. Lewis Bible” which is described on the C.S. Lewis website as such: “The C. S. Lewis Bible draws upon the distinctive wisdom of Lewis’s celebrated spiritual classics—Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce, The Problem of Pain, Miracles, and A Grief Observed—as well as his other distinguished works, and pairs them alongside the life-giving words of Scripture. As you engage in devotional Bible reading with the full text of the trusted NRSV Bible, you will also gain insight from Lewis’s writings and spiritual journey while exploring key issues in the life of faith. Each reading will draw you deeper into Scripture as you wrestle with and meditate on spiritual truths woven throughout the text. The C. S. Lewis Bible is an indispensable companion for everyone who cherishes Lewis’s timeless words and seeks to meditate on the truths of Scripture.”

Anyone can easily check out the website http://www.cslewis.com/

Does this sound like the works of an avowed atheist?
