Cain Doesn’t Plan on Answering Anymore Harassment Questions

Herman Cain Wont Answer Anymore Harassment Questions

(The Blaze/AP) Republican presidential contender Herman Cain on Saturday vowed to answer no more questions about decade-old sexual harassment allegations and blamed journalists for the claims that have dogged his campaign.

Growing agitated with reporters after a one-on-one debate with rival Newt Gingrich, the former business executive suggested the reporters who asked questions about the allegations were unethical. Asked if he planned to never answer questions about the incidents, he was certain.

“You got it,” he snapped, even as the allegations leave plenty of doubts about Cain’s candidacy.

A lawyer for one of Cain’s accusers said Friday that his client had filed a complaint “in good faith” against Cain in the 1990s for “several instances of sexual harassment” and had received a financial settlement.

Attorney Joel Bennett suggested Cain wasn’t telling the truth in his repeated denials of the incidents that allegedly took place while the Georgia businessman headed the National Restaurant Association.

Cain repeatedly has denied ever sexually harassing anyone, and his campaign said it was “looking to put this issue behind us.” Advisers had hoped Saturday night’s debate here near Houston would help do that.

Tea party organizers explicitly limited to the discussion to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Gingrich, however, gave Cain an opportunity to address the allegations with an open-ended question about what has surprised him about running for president.

Cain didn’t hesitate: “The nit-pickiness of the media,” he said.

“It is the actions and behavior of the media that have been the biggest surprise,” he said, his voice rising.

“There are too many people in the media who are downright dishonest. … They do a disservice to the American people,” Cain said, bringing the room to its feet.

Gingrich had nothing to gain by raising allegations of improper sexual behavior by one of his rivals. The former House speaker from Georgia has been divorced twice and married three times, including to his current wife with whom he had an affair while married to his second wife.

Yet the moment gave Cain another opportunity to decry the media, whom he has blamed for the allegations becoming public.

“If I were running this campaign the way the pundits thought I ought to be running this campaign, I would have dropped out in August,” Cain later told reporters.

“When people get on the Cain train, they don’t get off.”

A Washington Post-ABC News survey taken after the allegations emerged last Sunday showed Cain and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney running almost even atop the field, with most Republicans dismissing the harassment allegations. Seven in 10 Republicans say reports of the allegations don’t matter when it comes to picking a candidate.

But in a sign of the possible danger ahead, the poll found that Cain slipped to third place among those who see the accusations as serious, and Republican women were significantly more likely than men to say the allegations make them less apt to support the businessman.

The questions show no sign of letting up.

When reporters tried to ask about the allegations following Saturday’s debate, Cain interrupted.

“Don’t even go there,” Cain said before the reporter from The Washington Post could finish his question.

“Can I ask my question?” the reporter said.

“No,” Cain snapped.

“Please send him the journalistic code of ethics,” Cain instructed his chief of staff, Mark Block.

As he left the press conference, he began to offer an answer.

“If you all just listen for 30 seconds, I will explain this one time,” Cain said.

He then immediately recanted.

“I was going to do something that my staff told me not to do and try to respond, OK?” he said. “We are getting back on message. End of story. Back on message. … Everything has been answered.”

Cain has lied about it whether all allegations are true or not and that is why I don’t trust him. I want a president that tells the truth whether his truth is what I always want to hear or not. If Cain couldn’t remember the pay offs to those two women he may be like Obama and Holder and not remember payoffs to places like Solyndra or setting up gunrunning programs. Do you people really want to put our country under the grips of another liar? Newt may have married 3 times but do we know all the details? I know one of his wives sold out to the liberal media after divorcing him and another one died from cancer so he may be the good partner in the split ups. He is still married to one and she seems to be right by his side, unlike Cain’s wife that is dodging the media for some reason. I would come out for my husband if I knew he was innocent and cared for him, but it seems she must not have the respect for him some of you do and by the way I hear she is a democrat and always votes democratic. Maybe she is going to support Obama and doesn’t want to tell us.

To me voting for Cain after his lies would be a disgrace to the republican party.

Well with that type of criticism you may not like the Lincoln-Douglas Debate that he had with Herman Cain, but here it is in its entirety: http://www.thedailycandidate.com/video/2011/nov/cain_gingrich_debate.html

I thought it was very informative but somewhat boring. They pandered to each other and gave soft ball questions. Cain even asked Gingrich what he would be if he was the Vice President… total soft on each other so you don’t find their differences. Is this a setup???

I’m amazed that people still want to tunr this country over to another professional politician. For Gods sake people, the professional politicians have gotten us in the trouble we are in! And some of you even want to hand over the presidency to a guy that has been a professional politician for 35 long years. Are you nuts???!!!

I agree with your response 100%!!! One does not simply forget stuff like this – it would be like having an affair or cheating on a boyfriend/girlfriend and saying I “forgot all about that” – well once it was brought up again by anyone — it comes back in your mind you remember ALL the details. So Cain is not being truthful and I WILL NOT consider voting for him. He would be a disgrace to Republicans and it would be the “re-election” of Obama. And I DO NOT want Obama re-elected!!!!

You may want to re-think your position.
None of the other candidates can beat Obama with the margin that will be needed. Because Cain can strip at least 30% of the minority vote from Obama, he has the very best chance of beating him. That’s the reality!

I find it very funny that neo-con would rather call Cain as a Pizza man than chairman of the Federal Reserve bank. I wonder why?

The SYSTEM trusted Cain to head the most secretive and corrupt entity.
But neo-cons want to think of themselves as being true conservatives & true patriots and to think about Cain as being true “outsider”. That makes me smile.

I have a theory. The women involved were probably WHITE. Herman Cain was probably the first BLACK man as their boss… and he was nice. So nice in fact that he paid them compliments on their looks, dress, stature. He was paying attention to them and they felt uncomfortable with a BLACK man doing so.They took offense that a BLACK man would say anything like that to a WHITE woman…They would have been OK if he was WHITE…Jyst a theory. I would like to see if they are all white women.

Other than that, I’m more concerned that Cain lied during the Bloomberg debate and everyone backing him refuses to acknowledge it. Caintrainers have no problem with a liar. Tells us all we need to know about them.

Texrubarts, Cain didn’t forget. He disclosed that sexual harrassment claim to his campaign when he was running for senator in 2004. But now he wants the Big Chair so thought is best NOT to disclose the information. Shows you how shifty he really is.

Mangot21 – yes he should have only had to answer this once. The problem with the first answer, like most of what Cain says, is that was incorrect and he had to go back and explain himself with words that contradicted the first answer. And so the saga begins with the man who cannot answer a question about an event even with 10 full days notice prior to the story “breaking”. He had ample time to come up with his version of the truth but instead lied about settlement, then lied about knowledge of the settlement, do we now have his complete version of the truth or was he joking like was about the electric fence or just wrong like about China’s nukes.

I have read his plan many times.

If you understand it o well please explain “Empowerment Zones will offer deductions for the payroll of those employed in the zone”

      Or

“Empowerment Zones will offer additional deductions for those living and/or working in the zone.

My comment about no sales tax was in regards to the gentleman pointing out how Cain is a constitutionalist when clearly he is a Neoconservative. He wants more federal revenue and has only offered rhetoric in regards to making government smaller. What will he cut?

I’m not saying that is bad, but it is what it is.

First of all, didn’t it seem like he was either lying or extremely ignorant when he said he had never heard of the neoconservative movement? About as ignorant as the china/nuke comment.

He embodies the neoconservative philosophy of nation-building and preemptive democratization to combat terror. He believes in deficit spending(NO proposed cuts) and he believes in the continuance of legislating morality. That is calledneoconservativism. Have you not heard of it either?

………….and that’s why those things are unconstitutional:

“The enumerated powers are a list of items found in Article I, section 8 of the US Constitution that set forth the authoritative capacity of the United States Congress. In summary, Congress may exercise the powers that the Constitution grants it, subject to explicit restrictions in the Bill of Rights and other protections in the Constitutional text. The 10th Amendment states that all prerogatives not vested in the federal government nor prohibited of the states are reserved to the states and to the people, which means that the only prerogatives of the Congress (as well as the Executive Branch and the Judicial Branch) are limited to those explicitly stated in the Constitution of the United States.”

@rational man, A tax plan will not fix all of our problems, All cain’s plan does it lower the taxes on corporations and puts the burden on middle income people.

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is “needed” before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents’ “interests,” I shall reply that I was informed that their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can. ~ Barry Goldwater

So I was not being rude to steal or changing the subject. The subject is Herman Cain. I don’t think he should be counted out based on some questionable behavior twelve years ago. I think he should be counted out because he is a wolf in sheepskin clothes. He is as establishment as it gets yet is painted as an outsider by his media pals.

I never said Cain was worse than anyone. My exact words were:

“In my opinion, what Cain allegedly did is worse, seeing as how whatever Wiener did was consensual.”

It was alleged that Herman Cain sexually harassed multiple women. Depending on the specific situation, what he did could have been illegal, but that’s just speculation at this point. Sexual harassment is clearly not wanted by one of the parties involved. What Anthony Wiener did involved two consensual adults. So, I stand by my opinion that what Herman Cain allegedly did was most likely worse than what Anthony Wiener did (unless the allegations are baseless, which doesn’t seem to be the case IMO).

What part of the fact that NRA investigated and settled the incidents do you not get. The women did come forward when it mattered and took the issue as far as they could at the time. Today, they would get harassed beyond belief if they stepped forward. If you don’t believe that just use this website as an example of how nasty it would be for them.
And for clarity, the women did not bring this up in 2011, Politico did and the smart money is that the leak came from someone within the Repub party. Stop blaming theses women for Cain having to deal with today. If he had not lied when the story broke it would all be behind him (and us) already, but he chose to lie and that is why the story lives.

Exactly, smears and nothing else. They dug up this “dirt” when Cain shot out to the front position. The Left AND the Right are both terrified because of his popular support and are going to drag him down if they can.

Romney is Obozo 2.0, and Perry is a Bilderberger. It won’t matter if Romney, Perry, or Obozo get elected in 2012 because it will all lead to the same place. But Cain will be a force to reckon with and must be discredited by any means.

Is sexual “harassment” that allegedly happened 15 years ago the best they can do? Especially when the originator does not want to come forward? (that’s even more effective because the imagination can run wild) I suspect the harassment charges were all about money. I say, one person‘s compliment is another person’s harassment. So much BS. Fair enough. The woman doesn’t seem to want to proceed anyway. Not even a name. I think she should just shut up and go away. If her “event” (whatever the hell is supposed to have happened) wasn’t a problem in 1999, then why now? It’s obviously just another leftist smear campaign.

Good. With 99% of the media he can not win. Even though he is most likely telling the truth. This is a no-win situation. Just move on.

You’re a coward, 82nd. With your attitude, we‘d still be subjects of England or minions of Hitler’s Germany. We the People have always and will always defeat our enemies foriegn & “DOMESTIC”!!!
Today’s left-wing media is a part of our domestic enemy.
GET A BACKBONE, MAN, AND SUPPORT A REAL & TRUE AMERICAN INSTEAD OF COWARING IN A PESSIMISTIC CORNER OF YOUR WORLD!!!

      ==============================
Cain is a REAL & TRUE AMERICAN! Much more than any of the other candidates. The rest of them are professional politicians and do I need to remind you that it is THEY that have gotten us in the mess we are in?
America has had enough of professional politicians, now we need a citizen with some old fashioned common sense telling the professional politicians to take a hike!

The left have no ethics and will continue to run Mr. Cain’s name through the mud even if they have no actual proof. The idea is get our candidates off message and demonize them to where they are afraid to speak the truth in order to keep the press from dragging them through the mud as well. I for one will not allow the press to choose my candidate for me I will do that myself.

Good for you Mr. Cain. I am leaning toward Newt but I applaud you telling the press/Media Guards to shove it. If the women can‘t come forward or won’t then you should stop answering questions. The press/Media Guards don’t care about anything but destroying EVERY Republican candidate. So don’t take it personal. The Community Agitator keeps em busy kissing his butt and they do seem to enjoy it!!

I’m still waiting on them to find his school records. I know they‘re digging for Repblican’s records.
I‘m still waiting on them to question Obama’s gay friends that claim they performed sexual acts on him. I know if it were a Republican they would.
I’m still waiting on them to question why Obama has a false SS#. I know they would of Republicans.
I’m still waiting on them to question why Obama is using tax dollars on his continuous campaign. I know they WILL of Republicans!!!

So many questions and yet no answers on Obama.

What’s he going to do? Stay home until next November? This isn’t going away that easily.

Unless, and until SOLID allegations, including proof appear, I believe Mr. Cain has the right idea.
However, the MSM will do their level best to keep this issue on the front burner.

“Please send him the journalistic code of ethics.” That is exactly what the press needs to hear, and often!
