Calif. 8th Grader Pulled Out of Class for Having Photo of Military Brother on Her Binder

California eighth grader Brianna Gentry said she was pulled out of class for having a photo of her military brother in her binder. (Image source: KTLA-TV)
A California eighth grader said she was pulled out of class and reprimanded for having photographs in her binder — snapshots that included her military policeman brother stationed in Montana.
Brianna Gentry, 13, is a student at Golden Valley Middle School in San Bernardino, Calif. She told KTLA-TV the photos — one of her softball team as well — apparently violated an unwritten rule against “added material” in the notebook for the advanced program she’s in.
“The counselor took me out of class twice telling me that the pictures are added material,” Brianna told KTLA. “But they haven’t pulled any other students with pictures out from their class. … Just me.”
Jaima Eudy, Brianna’s mother, was furious when she found out and wrote a letter to the school saying Brianna was being singled out and discriminated against for having a military photo.

“Her brother is a positive role model in her life,” Eudy told the station. “She’s very active in Little League. She has been for six years. So these are things that are happy moments for her. … I think if you’re going to enforce a rule, the rule should apply to all children.”
The school sent back a list of guidelines for keeping a notebook — guidelines that didn’t mention keeping pictures in the binder.
KTLA intervened and asked the school district why Brianna couldn’t keep a photo of her brother. The district relented and said Brianna could keep his picture in there, but that the softball team had to go.
“We want our students to be successful, and if this is the type of motivation that’s going to help this young lady succeed, then by all means we’ll support her efforts,” school district spokeswoman Linda Bardere told KTLA.
Brianna and her mother agreed to the compromise.
“My brother’s very important to me,” Brianna told KTLA. “I haven’t seen him in a while.”

Has on it “In memory of my cruise…China.Japan and Philippine Islands.Siberia and Hawaii. WW1. The next is my father in the Solomine Islands US navy WW2 Age 16. The next is my uncle who was killed by a sniper in Germany two weeks before the end of WW2. I have no civil war pictures. However picture of a relative of mine is in the history books. That was never fully explained. She was then allowed to keep the photo of her brother on the cover but had to remove the photo of her softball team? Were they displaying gang symbols or signs? What kind of advanced course controls the content of the notebook so tightly? There’s more to this than meets the eye.

If you wouldn’t be surprised, then the story holds. The Dept of Edumacation spends more money every year and edumacates less and less every year. So if you think the school was being conservative and doesn’t indoctrinate, then you don’t know liberals (or yourself) because it happens and is happening.

If you had the reading skills of a banana you would have seen she stated other kids had photos in their binders and were not being bothered. This leaves only the conclusion it was what the pictures were of which raised their objections, i.e., PC discrimination against all that is right and good in AmeriKa.

This is yet another victory over those who believe that every single wrong committed on a local level is President Obama’s fault – this event clearly shows that, yes, President Obama has control of everything in the US, including what happens in classrooms. Bush didn’t give a dang. He ddin’t control any of this stuff.

No teacher is going to get fired over this……they are protected by that “student oriented” union, the NEA and/or AFT. You can’t fire them, no matter what.
They get automatic raises, sweet health insurance, retirement, etc. (Just like you or I….NOT)

But then they will pass a law that home schooling can only be done to college accredited teachers so all will have to go to college to get their diploma in order to teach their own children. There is a real true bias against servicepeople-I married my sailor in 1964, and there was some then and all the way through his 26 years in. There were really great people too, but now the schools hate recuiters,, and are so far gone in socialism most (not all) teachers want it as far away as they can get it. I could say much more, but I am to angry and will say something I could regret.

Remember back during the Clinton administration when schools were kids were being expelled from school for having a one inch long plastic GI Joe pistol in their pockets? This was done under their “Zero Tolerance of Guns” in school. So, just when is a vinyl facsimile of a pistol really a gun? If it was a zero tolerance of toys and other distractions, I could see that. But actually considering a chunk of plastic a gun is absurd. Now, a picture of a brother in uniform?

Kids can play with other kids in their neighborhoods & socialize that way. the new style teachers can teach via the internet, labs for older kids at much reduced in size schools or to proctor tests.
