Calif. Politicians Working to Abolish Open Carry of Firearms

For 99.9% of Californians, you can’t carry your handgun concealed, you can’t open carry it loaded, but you can open carry it unloaded. That is unless a growing effort in the state legislature succeeds to make the 2nd Amendment null and void in the Golden State.
Sam Wolanyk doesn’t want to see that happen. He is an advocate for open carry- which in California is legal if the weapon is completely unloaded. To make his point, Wolanyk carries a pistol on his belt with a detached magazine on his other hip while he walks around downtown San Diego.
This public display in support of the 2nd Amendment has already created problems with local authorities. Despite the fact that carrying an unloaded handgun in the open is completely legal under California law, in 2010 police drew their pistols on Wolanyk, threw him on the ground, and allegedly said “we don’t care what the law is, you can’t do that.”
Wolanyk successfully sued the San Diego Police for $ 35,000 for unlawful arrest without suspicion as as result of that incident.
But California’s complicated gun laws may soon become crystal clear, as some politicians are currently trying to close the open carry loophole. This would effectively eliminate the right to carry a firearm as a private citizen anywhere in California. And here’s why.
California is one of a few states that are “may issue” for concealed carry permits. What that means is, the county sheriff in California can decide whether or not a citizen gets a gun, and that’s it. In California, only .1% of the population has a Concealed Weapons Permit- 29 times below that of “Shall-Issue” states (in New York City, another may-issue state, the application for a premise permit for a handgun costs $340, must be typed on a typewriter, and DMV moving violations can disqualify you).
But in the aftermath of the Arizona shooting that killed six and seriously wounded Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, some politicians in California have been using the rise of anti-gun sentiment in the media to push new gun legislation. A change to the statute is now working its way through the state’s legislative process that would eliminate open carry in California.
In response to this, Wolanyk points out that the Arizona shooter, Jared Loughner, violated multiple felonies irrespective of any tightening of gun laws in Arizona or California, and that the shooter was a crazy person unlikely to be deterred by changing open carry laws.
Watch the full video below, complete with interviews from Wolanyk and politicians who want to close out the 2nd Amendment in California, courtesy of Reason.tv:

Amazing at how ofter clip is misused for magazine. I believe the M1 garand that our grandfathers used caused the confusion. Millions of service men learned to use the term “clip” during WWII and Korea, and passed it on. Folks been using the wrong term since. The media never gets much of anything right when it comes to firearms or users. Notice how anyone who ever uses a rifle in a crime gets labeled a “sniper”? Not too many criminals sitting back at 600 plus, dopping elevation and wind to make a first round hit. Machine Gun is another term misused.

Fast forward to 2011 and look at the riots taking place in London, England: the city of unarmed people where crime was long ago vanished via the confiscation and destruction of handguns.
Now that the criminals are confident the citizenry is thoroughly unarmed, they’re going into homes and businesses whenever they wish, taking whatever they want once they go in, and walking (or running) away with a smile on their face.

I have news for the rabidly far left political geeks in California: “It doesn’t matter whether you allow open carry, concealed carry or what, because we are now at the beginning of complete breakdown, and it will be the people who will decide whether or not they want to be armed, not your sorry Azzes.”
The most globally respected trends forecaster, Gerald Celente, tells us it is upon us, and he’s been right on so far. What he says can’t be dismissed.
“KINGSTON, NY — On June 13th, Trends Journal subscribers and the global media received this Trend Alert® “Collapse It’s Coming! Are You Ready?”
In his 2007 Trend alert Gerald Celente accurately predicted that a global economic collapse was imminent, and surely it was, because we fell hard and fast.
He’s saying now that: “THE ECONOMY IS ON THE THRESHOLD OF CALAMITY; ANOTHER VIOLENT EPISODE IS LOOMING.”
“Celente warned that the trends of the Summer of 2011 parallel those in play during August of 2007, trends that had culminated in the “Panic of ‘08.” http://www.trendsresearch.com
It might take awhile to see the worst of it, but it could also come down fast. Be prepared.

Fighting for the right to carry a weapon for ones self defense is a battle that we have won in many states across the nation since the fight began in Florida many years ago. There are still a few states such as CA, MA, MD, and NY where we still have a great battle ahead of us. I walk in and tell them, OK, then I do not shop here – AND, I DON’T. I have seen businesses change those signs, since my area is a big CCW area, they now know better. The small area we come from where the stores are, a pretty safe BECAUSE most people carry their guns in and out of these stores. We haven’t had a robbery in over a year, so don‘t tell me guns don’t stop trouble. If you carry a gun, you need to be trained and smart about it, and very vigilant. A quick shop had a robbery a little over a year ago and there were 5 people in the store at the time, including the clerk and the robber. He went to the clerk to get the money and when he turned around, 3 people had their guns on him. So, don’t tell me that guns cause problems. In the right hands, THEY SOLVE PROBLEMS.

However, you’re dead right about not wanting the Citizens to be too well armed in the defense. IF that was to happen, then the Feral-Near-Humans might loose sufficient numbers, rapidly enough, so as to Greatly Diminish their Zeal for Rioting, Looting and Burning. That would surely throw a Major Kink into Heimen and Company’s plans. It’s impossible to Take Advantage of a Crisis, IF your Crisis peters out on it’s own.

Report Post »I do believe MOST responsible gun-toting citizens know and understand what they can and cannot do. Me, well, I train all the time with my gun. I want to be really sure that when I aim, I don’t miss. I have guns stashed throughout my home should I need them in a hurry. I have no children, so I am not afraid to leave them in drawers, etc., hidden and out of the way. I also have a whole-house alarm and dogs. So, if you come to my home and enter without permission, you’d better be sure YOU FACE THE CONSEQUENCES like the man you think you are. Yes, I will dial 911, as in our state, that is the first thing they will ask you. But, I will do this WHILE I AM SHOOTING THE INTRUDER and since my aim is so good (I have many trophies to prove it in competition), I WILL NOT MISS. So, if anyone is foolish enough to call my bluff, bring it on. I am a Christian and I will not hesitate to kill someone evil who is trespassing (if he has a gun). No, I will not shoot him if he has no gun, but I will give him a warning shot. The next one will aim straight for the head or heart IF he does not stop. I never take my gun off, except going to bed and then it is under my pillow for quick access. I LOVE THIS COUNTRY.

Posted on August 10, 2011 at 3:46pmThis is another reason why I don’t live in Califonia anymore. Londoners are finding out what happens when no one is permitted to carry a gun! If Cali want to follow suit then only thugs, theives and lawbreakers will have them. Let‘s ask your everyday Drug Smuggler coming across the border to the South to leave his gun behind in his homeland and let’s see how that works too. Great example of the marvelous wisdom coming from the land of Nuts, Fruits and Flakes. They get what they deserve. I want the rest of the US to divorce California and leave them to thier own demise. Posted on August 10, 2011 at 3:46pmMore then likely this will pass outlawing open carrying. but then will go to the courts to be sorted out. after all cal has all liberal douche bags in power.
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. it does not say a state has to let you carry one in public, but it all hinges on what the meaning of (bear arms) means.
Among the many heated controversies concerning the Second Amendment is the correct meaning of the phrase keep and bear arms. Those who argue that the original meaning of the Second Amendment was only to protect a collective right, either of the states to maintain militias, or perhaps of citizens to jointly form state-controlled militias, assert that bear arms refers exclusively or at least overwhelmingly, to the military carrying of weapons. Some have claimed that even keep arms was exclusively military in its meaning. While one might challenge the overly narrow focus on bear arms instead of the entire phrase keep and bear arms, those arguing for a collective right have thrown down the gauntlet by making this strong claim about just two words. This paper demonstrates that the Founding Generation did not understand bear arms as limited to military or collective militia duty but saw it as merely one way of expressing the concept of possession (as a modern speaker might say carry a gun).

Posted on August 10, 2011 at 3:55pmGreat analysis of the liberal spin on the 2nd. It is pretty clear that the founders meant for the “personal” right to carry arms; considering they all had them with them everywhere they went, including Independence Hall.

The moron gets a kick out of acting like a ****** asking again and again what law he is breaking, is he under arreat, refusing to show his ID to the police. He “thinks” he is showing cops trying to break the open carry law and trying to intimidate him…all he is doing in reality is hurting actual open carry individuals and making it so eventually no cop will respond when someone calls about a man with a gun near a school, post office, etc.
If I ever saw this idiot in the process of walking along carrying a shotgun or AK, video taping while baiting & waiting for a citizen to call the police…he is going to be a grease spot on my tires.

Posted on August 10, 2011 at 4:15pmBTW, I know many will argue against this, but the guy in the video is using a SERPA holster…PLEASE do not use these. They are linked to numerous accidental discharges. You actually have to depress a spot on the holster to release the firearm…problem is that “spot” is right where the trigger is. You are almost pulling the trigger already to relase the firearm (with the plastic of the holster in the way) and pulling up to draw your weapon. It is quite easy for a novice to continue the squeeze as they draw and fire the weapon.
Too many other options out there to be using this gimmick holster.

This is the mentality of the sheep in the metro-sexual areas of California, the rest of CA is out numbered and as a result you get elected politicians, like commie Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown, Nasty Pelosi, BarBar Boxhead, and many others!
The US Constitution was put into place to stop states from such tyranny but the Supreme Court has been packed with cowardly lawyers who listen to what the communist/socialist MGMSM has to say rather than the justifications for the rights of the people as laid out by the Founders in the Federalist Papers.
