California Filmmaker Switches Position on Controversial Tenn. Mega-Mosque

Filmmaker Eric Allen Bell Switches Sides on Murfreesboro, Tenn. Mosque

Eric Allen Bell, once a strong supporter of the controversial mega-mosque in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, has reportedly switched positions on the matter after learning more about terrorist attacks overseas, and reading books on Islam.

A fixture at court hearings and protests in 2010, the California native and self-described liberal even started making a movie about the situation called “Not Welcome,“ where he depicted mosque critics as ”southern Christian bigots,” in the words of the Huffington Post, before making the switch.

“Of course, Muslim Americans making up less than 1 percent of the total population in this country, the idea that 1 percent will arm themselves and take over is nothing short of paranoid and psychotic nonsense…” he said at the time.  Now, he says the mosque is built on a “foundation of lies,“ and maintains there is both ”mysterious money” and a suspicious motive people need to be aware of.

He wrote on his site Global Infidel TV:

Why is it such a big deal that a Muslim community is simply trying to build a house of worship?

Let’s start with a little math. Murfreesboro, TN is located in Rutherford County which has just over 100,000 residents. According to estimates provided by the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, there are 200 to 300 Muslim families living in the area. When they announced their plans to build a 53,000 square foot mega mosque, a lot of questions came up. One subject of concern was why they needed such a huge compound for so few families. What is particularly disconcerting is that, according to their own documents (attached 2009 annual report) the ICM only has 45 active paying member families. Naturally this begs another question – who is paying for this massive compound?

And, what will it really cost to build something that looks like this, per square foot, at 53,000 square feet, when the project is completed? How many millions of dollars will these “45 active members” be coming up with – and where is all this money coming from?

So how is his film doing?  After changing positions, his audience and financial backers understandably feel betrayed.  Some even say he’s a fraud who always disagreed with the mosque, while others wonder if he’s been paid off by anti-Islam groups.

“Only a hired gun would switch sides like this,” Jace Short of Middle Tennesseans for Religious Freedom said.

But Bell maintains: “Hollywood likes a movie about outsiders being bullied by Southerners…They don’t like the story I want to tell.”

A judge recently voided approval for construction of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, though construction is already well underway, and the Murfreesboro Post reports that county attorneys will be appealing the ruling.

Bell, meanwhile, maintains: “Don’t say that you are concerned about traffic and then out of the other side of your mouth say you are concerned about Shariah…Say you are concerned about Shariah.”

      This is the NUMBER ONE main reason to make sure OBAMA is not elected again.     I live in Nashville, which is only about 20 minutes north of Murfreesboro. Nashville has a population of about 600.000 in the city itself and about a million if you count the whole county. Middle Tennessee, which includes Nashville, Murfreesboro and a bunch of smaller towns is pretty populated and there are TONS of Muslims in Nashville itself. Heck one of the larger high schools here is predominantly Muslim. I know of two so-called mosques here, one a pathetic little dilapidated former bar, and the other a storefront in a strip mall that includes a thrift store, and a grimy-looking beauty shop and equally grimy-looking Japanese restaurant. I always figured this whoppin’ big Islamic center was meant to service the entire region, SO, while I’m not at all happy at this mosque, don’t trust it, would love to see it stopped, the premise of the article is a bit misleading. I also would like to know how they got the building stopped for the time-being because the last day in court I heard about did not go well. The pathetic little lawyer working for the people against the mosque only had one weapon in his arsenal. He was trying to prove that Islam is not a religion. :o/

      The building was temporarily halted because the county broke the required rules for an open meeting, i.e., they didn’t give enough notice to the public before granting permission to build.

    My nephew hangs out at a tavern that was next door to a movie theater. about four years ago the theater was up for sale. I’m not for sure who bought it but about a month after the sell it became a mosque. My nephew has been going to this tavern for several years he told me that in the last couple of years that a lot of suspicious things have been going on there, like things that have been going in and out of the building late night.wooden crates and such. He had contacted several gov agency about what they have been seeing but nothing has happened yet.I don‘t think they care about whats going on there or maybe they can’t do anything about what they do. either way its BS. Its time to wake up before its to late. Love/Pray

      How many “radicalized” muslims were radicalized someplace other than a radical mosque? Were they radicalized at a local friend’s house, by movies, internet, or anywhere else? From what I’ve heard it is usually at a large mosque with a radical Imam who is allowed to do this out of political correctness from the progressives who supress conservative or free thinking people. I think mosques are fine when they are out in the open as to their motives, their objectives and who they are serving. If they are secretive then the world should watch out and prepare. The next world war will be Islam against the world for global domination just like it was Nazi’s against the world similarly.

      Mosques are not houses of worship and Islam is not a religion.

      What you have next to the tavern is a muslim garrison and it is being used to wage Jihad on you and your family, your loved ones, your town, this nation, and all of planet Earth.

      It is the stated goal of muslims to destroy our culture and our way of life and replace it with Islam and Sharia. It is the exact same jihad process that has been used to undermine, erase, and replace cultures and civilizations across the planet and throughout history.

      We need to now stand up and name the enemy: Muslims engaged in Jihad.

      It is a simple matter to reduce the amount of Islam to which our children will be subjected and sacrificed in blood rituals.

      - Outlaw Islam
      - Close the mosques (garrisons)
      - Deport muslims

      None of these steps require any violence to be done. All we need to do is remove them and send them away…preferably to the doorsteps of the House of Saud.

      NOTE: The minarets on a mosque are symbols of Islamic ascendancy. When the minarets go up, the muslims have claimed victory. Make them take down those minarets. Make sure building inspectors crawl through that place and find as many violations as possible.

    Okay, just looked some of this up and am still baffled. Just what is the Star Wars program to which you refer? I do recall Reagan’s intended missile defense program being called Star Wars. It came about during my second tour in Europe. As for Dr Bowman first coining the phrase for ‘their’ operation back in ‘77 is interesting. The movie Star Wars came out in August, 1977. Saw it on it’s opening night in Tampa. Anyway, I am curious to know what that Star Wars program was. Care to fill us in with some details?

    According to NIST, there was one primary reason for the building’s failure: In an unusual design, the columns near the visible kinks were carrying exceptionally large loads, roughly 2000 sq. ft. of floor area for each floor. “What our preliminary analysis has shown is that if you take out just one column on one of the lower floors,” Sunder notes, “it could cause a vertical progression of collapse so that the entire section comes down.”

    There are two other possible contributing factors still under investigation: First, trusses on the fifth and seventh floors were designed to transfer loads from one set of columns to another. With columns on the south face apparently damaged, high stresses would likely have been communicated to columns on the building’s other faces, thereby exceeding their load-bearing capacities.

    Second, a fifth-floor fire burned for up to 7 hours. “There was no firefighting in WTC 7,” Sunder says. Investigators believe the fire was fed by tanks of diesel fuel that many tenants used to run emergency generators. Most tanks throughout the building were fairly small, but a generator on the fifth floor was connected to a large tank in the basement via a pressurized line. Says Sunder: “Our current working hypothesis is that this pressurized line was supplying fuel [to the fire] for a long period of time.”

    Track has been kept of mosques being built around Army bases, Air Force bases and in the middle of gas and oil refining towns. They build not only for the idea of conquered land but also for strategic advantage. Take a look sometime at the traffic into and out of the mosques. As far as I can tell,there is none. Only a locked iron gate and cameras to show any sign of activity. This plan goes back to the 1970′s with some specific places I can personally account for. The first I ever saw was on the edge of Perrin Air Force base. Perrin was closed soon after but a significant aquifer is nearby. Do your research. Ask why. Form your own opinion based on the evidence. You’ll see.

      Most of the building materials were steel, concrete, and glass. How well would these non flameables burn?
      As for your idea the gov. would never do this to it’s people. Well, everyday the good citizens of the US work their butts off for the gov. and if they don‘t do as they are told they go to prison and their property is seized so I don’t buy your argument.
      I do believe the terrorist had some involvement, but clearly the gov. knew and had some assistance in what happened. It’s not 100% the terrorists or 100% the gov.. It was a combination of both. That’s what the brightest experts believe. The same as how the CIA has assisted the last two airplane bombers. This is proven.

    FACT: Jet fuel burns at 800° to 1500°F, not hot enough to melt steel (2750°F). However, experts agree that for the towers to collapse, their steel frames didn’t need to melt, they just had to lose some of their structural strength—and that required exposure to much less heat. “I have never seen melted steel in a building fire,” says retired New York deputy fire chief Vincent Dunn, author of The Collapse Of Burning Buildings: A Guide To Fireground Safety. “But I’ve seen a lot of twisted, warped, bent and sagging steel. What happens is that the steel tries to expand at both ends, but when it can no longer expand, it sags and the surrounding concrete cracks.”

    “Steel loses about 50 percent of its strength at 1100°F,” notes senior engineer Farid Alfawak-hiri of the American Institute of Steel Construction. “And at 1800° it is probably at less than 10 percent.” NIST also believes that a great deal of the spray-on fireproofing insulation was likely knocked off the steel beams that were in the path of the crashing jets, leaving the metal more vulnerable to the heat.

    But jet fuel wasn’t the only thing burning, notes Forman Williams, a professor of engineering at the University of California, San Diego, and one of seven structural engineers and fire experts that PM consulted. He says that while the jet fuel was the catalyst for the WTC fires, the resulting inferno was intensified by the combustible material inside the buildings, including rugs, curtains, furni

      The red iron skeletons of these buildings used to be insulated with asbestos. Even with all of it’s other problems asbestos worked better in this task, but even it was used to buy a little time to evacuate occupants. I’ve read about and spoken with engineers regarding the cellulose based insulation used today. The major complaint is that it is nowhere near as good as the old asbestos. It was shortly after the construction of the original WTC towers that asbestos was dropped and the first attempts at replacing it were used in this particular construction project. Years before 9/11 I had read as well had a couple of engineers on separate occasions tell me that these towers would be more vulnerable than most to fires started in the upper decks, and especially to an aircraft strike. That day when I watched the aftermath of the first aircraft strike then the 2nd strike followed by the collapses, this all came rushing back at me. What would be considered a regular fire in the upper decks will consume enough internal fuel to damage the red iron. The extra JP8 or JP10 just promulgated it.

    We have a Mosque not two miles from where we live. Its a big place, larger than the largest Catholic Church in an area where the predominate religion is Catholic.
    I wonder how many guns and how many explosives are in that Mosque? Thats one of the principle hiding places for such items in the Middle East.

    They keep saying that only 1percent of the population are Muslims .
    .But I seem to remember someone say.. their recruiting in large numbers in the prison system..
    and their are converts every day.
    I didn’t think we had a communist problem either…. Yet here we are.
