California Man Who Threw Son Off Boat Speaks Out

California Man Who Threw Son Off Boat Speaks OutOn Monday The Blaze reported on the disturbing story of a California man named Sloan Briles who was arrested for throwing his seven-year-old son off a sightseeing cruise boat during an argument. He was arrested for child endangerment and resisting arrest.

Although Briles allegedly jumped into the water to rescue his son, the boy was saved by another boater. The boy and his brother were then returned to their mother’s care, but Briles says it was “horse play.”

Briles told Fox News host Trace Gallagher, “there was absolutely no hitting of my son.”

“As a young child, I have been teaching them to swim quite extensively…I have no intention of hurting my son. I love my son very much. This whole thing is coming such a huge surprise to me.”

Does Briles suggest he was helping the boy improve his breast-stroke by tossing him overboard?

I don’t think we need more details as some here suggest. The only fact that’s relevant is he threw his seven year old child off a boat thereby endangering him. I read that he had been drinking and the child was crying. He reportedly said something about not wanting his kid to be a wimp before throwing him overboard. I hope the biological mother is better than this guy who may have lent his DNA but is in no way any sane person’s idea of a father.

He’s lucky the kid did not get run over by the tour boat or sucked into the screw!

Whatever his excuse for being a burro, it stinks!

His story is quite different in details to what ( i assume credible ) eye witnesses [ according to the news guy ] say happened, he is to quick with his answers. Worse even yet is that he should have left his girlfriend at home, she is transparent as heck.

Something about this story seems incomplete. There seem to be pieces we’re missing.
How many people were really on the boat? How many boats were moving?
How close was the other boat the “rescued” the child?
How many drinks were purchased by this guy before the incident, if any?
This story does seem blow a bit out of proportion; but, we could know better if we had more actual facts – instead of assumptions on the part of the reporters doing the interviews.
Is this guy an abuser; or, is he just a jerk.
    Abusers deserve jail.
Jerks deserve to be yelled at and/or lectured by their family and friends.

Some of my kids learned to swim by being tossed into a pool, not sure I would have picked an ocean though. Still, I am sure he loves his kid, just made a dumb mistake. Like your post. Seems he can’t handle his 15 minutes though.

That just what my Father did to me when I was 9 years old. I wanted him to teach me how to swim so he picked me up and through me off the docks, and said swim or sink. That was 55 yrs ago and I love him for the memory, and the swimming lesson.

This man needs to be in jail. No excuse or justification can make up for what he did. You get in an argument with your girlfriend so you throw your kid overboard. What a loser! I work with foster kids and see first hand the horrible things that have happened to them. I can only imagine the fear his child felt when being tossed into the water by his own father.

He was responding to his girlfriend who couldn’t stop primping. She was constantly puckering and looking at herself, and fixing her hair. She could probably see herself on a screen as they spoke to the camera, but she was definitely super excited about being on tv. He said stop it, and she got really embarrassed.

Okay, prepare to be whined at:
I have always wanted to be a father but, for a variety of reasons, women (my prefered reproductive partner) have not found me attractive enough so I get to watch as those males who women DO find attractive enough have children then throw them away. It’s like starving and watching people throw away perfectly good food.
If you don’t like your children, for GOD DAMN’S SAKE, give them to someone who does love them. Stop throwing them off boats, out of cars and trucks, drowning them in bathtubs, taking them for rides on jet skiis in raging rivers so that you can have quality time clinging to buoys a few dozen yards from waterfalls…
    It just ****** me off…

You should not be so hard on yourself. Women pick up on negative. One thing about us human beings, for some reason we continue to make the same mistakes. It just might be the type of women you keep going after that is the problem. Be true and honest and the right woman will come into your life when you least expect it.

You should adopt. Sounds like you’d be a great father. Get involved in the big brother’s program and mentor a child. Sounds like you’d be great at that, too. Some women are too superficial and look at physical characteristics. I always looked into the eyes. I got a keeper that way. He’s “ruggedly” handsome.
