Back in April, comedian Jon Lovitz came to a friend’s aid by publicizing the anti-Semitic graffiti that was left in her front yard.  Multiple swastikas surrounded the word “Jew,” feces were reportedly left on the doorstep, and security footage caught part of the incident.

“Some coward & idiot left this on a friend’s doorstep, yesterday.  This is an insult to all of us,” Lovitz tweeted, attaching the above picture.

The next day, he added:

Lovitz spent days discussing the story on his Twitter feed, writing that “Jews are no longer victims,” and that everyone should stand up in such a situation.

He also added that this case was particularly sensitive, since the family’s parents were Holocaust survivors.

But now, a little over two months later, the woman in question is being charged with three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, two counts of vandalism, two counts of trespassing, and two counts of tampering with a vehicle.

According to the New York Daily News, the woman, Catharine Whelpley, is accused of driving the teens to a “former” friend’s home, where the girls smeared human feces on the property and poured syrup on a car.  Whelpley’s 14-year-old daughter then allegedly used the syrup to draw swastikas and the word “Jew” near the front door.

However, the City Attorney’s Office reportedly told the L.A. Daily News that is is not considered a hate crime, because the materials used (mostly feces and maple syrup), could easily be washed off.

While Lovitz hasn’t yet tweeted a response to the news that the woman is being charged, he did re-tweet a story that discussed the case.

Amanda Susskind, the Los Angeles-area director for the Anti-Defamation League, commented: “I’m really kind of impressed with the creativity applied here…Everybody looked at this and thought this was going to fall through the cracks.”

    Christian people do not mistreat Jewish people or anyone else. True Christians do not cause misery or discomfort for Gods creation, but they will mix it up if they have to with those who insist on being bullys. So just because someone is a Christian, do not make a mistake and think they are push overs. To the contrary, real Christians are not afraid of anything overall. The Christians prove to be the greatest, toughest people in existence. Christians do not need to prove anything to anyone except to God. So, again, do not think for one minute a True Christian would mistreat someone, anyone for the sake of mistreating them or taking advantage of them. Many say they are Christians so people will trust them, but are wolves in sheeps clothing. Real Christians can discern their Spirits after they start talking, for they reveal themselves with lies and contridictions.

      As to the article, I‘m glad it’s not being prosecuted as a Hate Crime, as that would be “Thought Crime”, and why someone does something isn’t as important as what they actually do.

      They’re being appropriately charged based on the laws that are already on the books to handle this type of behavior. Any idiot who says “hate crime” should be locked in stocks in the public square and pelted with trash.

      I am a true Christian. Tie the offenders to a telephone pole and whip them publicly live on TV. Make sure they bleed. Then let them go. I promise they wont be stupid again. Stupid needs to be battled. Ignorance needs to be beaten and defeated. Bring back corporal punishment. Make it live on TV. Watch crime drop like a rock. Everyone knows I am right but it’s not PC.     Dude, they’re kids. If I were marked for life for every stupid thing I did from the ages of 8 to 25 I wouldn’t be able to leave the house. Looking back, it’s all a learning curve. They’re a product of their environment. A lot of the terrible things I did as a teen were direct results of lack of knowledge, peer pressure and influence from media. If anyone were going to be dragged through the mud it should be their teachers and parents – because that’s most likely where the problem came from. Those little girls weren’t born anti-semetic. They couldn’t even draw swastikas correctly. So to the clown that wants to break off their fingers etc – I suppose you are without sin? Never gave anyone the finger before? Also, no one died. Hose it off, have a talk and learn something from it. Making it permanent on the internet and ruining their lives is a little extreme. That said, I‘m sure no jew ever called them shiksas or discriminated against them because they weren’t ‘on the team’. Bunch of hypersensitive hypocrites.

      I don’t know if Jews are hypocrites, but you’ll find a lot of regular commenters on The Blaze who are hypocrites (and much worse).

      I agree the daughter and her friends shouldn’t be punished for life, but I’m thrilled the mom is bearing the brunt of the charges. She’s supposed to be the adult, not her daughters older BFF egging on a younger miscreant.

    So why can’t a picture of this woman be found anywhere on the Internet? Is she that protected now?Is she afraid she might be the recipient of the same kind of hate she dished out? Imagine that. You reap what you sow. I think people should know what she looks like and her daughters and friends should be outed also. We have to stop this kind of protection. If you are going to terrorize someone, have the cahones to stand up and show your face. Nothing but cowards.

      I‘m disappointed you think it’s cool to put the minors up for public retribution. They might grow up some day and regret what they did as children. Do you have any regrets from your childhood? Would you want people throwing it in your face today?

      The mother should have been a grown up, but so should you.

    When the law will not handled something, people have to do what people have to do. Then you have the problem of being set up to get in legal trouble yourself, but sometimes people have to make a stand. Do not let people keep bullying you. Try the legal route, etc., then if that does not work, a good old azz kicking may be in order.

    This interpretation of the law is insanity in the extreme. Are you saying Hitler did not commit hate crimes because the gas used on 6 million Jews can be more easily blown away in the wind than cleaning up these victims property? Where is reason, common sense, and simple decency in the government of this town? The law in this town is as vile as the pigs who committed the crime.

      I guess I‘m confused and don’t get it. Is the damage done to the property worse because of the mindset of the perpetrator? If a person is shot and killed because he’s a ________(fill in the blank- black gay, latino, Jew, white, Christian, whatever) are they any more dead than a person shot for their wallet? I don’t get the whole “hate crime” deal. Isn’t hate in some form or another at the root of most crimes?

      Maybe someone should call the Klan and let them know that it is a-ok to write anything they want on blacks’ property, so long as it’s water washable. Might need to be sugar free if they do it in Harlem, though. Oh, and put down a fireproof drop cloth before burning any crosses. No permanent mess means no hard feelings!

      I assume this took place in Los Angeles. Since the writer didn‘t format the article correctly and give the place at the beginning I’m surmising this by what’s in the article.

      So in LA, of all places, it‘s legal to burn a cross on someone’s lawn and it‘s not a hate crime because you can put the cross out and take it away when you’re finished?

      I find this really hard to believe in the land of Watts and Rodney King riots. The City Attorney is a political hack and an idiot.

      WOW, “this is not a hate crime because the materials used could be easily wiped off.” It is the content, not the materials used. So if someone (God forbid) were to use lipstick on a human to write a racist remark i.e Nger, F@g, etc that would not be a hate crime because the materials can be easily removed?? That burning cross on someones lawn is also easily removable. I did not know that it is the material used that determines a hate crime. WOW!
