Campus Shock: College ‘Sexuality’ Professor Presents Live-Sex Show for Students

A Northwestern University professor is under fire for reportedly holding an optional live-sex presentation on campus.
On Feb. 21, Psychology Prof. John Michael Bailey invited his “human sexuality” students to observe a non-student naked woman experiment with motorized sex toys on stage. According to the local NBC affiliate, about 120 students attended the demonstration. The questionable show was curated by Chicago “sex tour guide” Ken Melvoin-Berg.
“Talking about [sex] doesn’t always lend itself to this sort of thing,” Melvoin-Berg said. “We’re not just talking about it. We’re actually doing it.”
The University has reportedly declined to comment on the incident, but one student said the sex toy demonstration was billed as a question-and-answer session about sexual fetishes.
“Then, just out of nowhere, the girl just takes her pants off, takes her shirt off, takes her underwear off,” the stunned student said, adding that a number of people felt uncomfortable and promptly left. “As long as there’s been proper warning, the people that stay shouldn’t feel offended,” he said. “They‘re choosing to see what they’re seeing.”

Bailey’s controversial class attracted 622 Northwestern students this semester alone. After-class panels such as the one last Monday are offered as “educational addendums” to the class. This semester’s optional seminars have so far included: a panel of gay men discussing their sex lives; a transsexual performer; two convicted sex offenders; a swinging couple; a plastic surgeon; and a panel on “networking for kinky people.”
During a lecture last week, Bailey addressed the mounting controversy surrounding the latest seminar. “I think that these after-class events are quite valuable. Why? One reason is that I think it helps us understand sexual diversity,” he said, according to an audio file obtained by the school newspaper.
“Sticks and stones may break your bones, but watching naked people on stage doing pleasurable things will never hurt you,” he said to loud applause at the end of his speech.
In a statement, Bailey defended the extra-curricular seminars, refusing to surrender to “sex negativity and fear.“ Student feedback was ”uniformly positive,“ insisting Northwestern students are ”open-minded grown ups rather than fragile children.”
“To the extent that this event provokes a discussion of my reasoning above, I welcome it,” Bailey concluded Wednesday. “I expect many people to disagree with me. Thoughtful discussion of controversial topics is a cornerstone of learning.”

It’s going to take something quite a bit more drastic than “legislation” or a “focus group” to turn things around at this point. Maybe this professor has a little too much “tiger blood” in his veins. Whatever the case may be, the professor will be the first to admit he is personally not to blame and can’t possibly be held responsible for his actions. Report Post »In 1985, I had a course, “The Theology of Human Sexuality in Marriage”. The professor, private college in southern Ohio, did a decent job of trying to discuss taboo topics in a classroom setting. Adultery, marriage life, and some other issues, but he brought a middle aged male, VERY non-flamboyant, who worked for the railroad (why I remember that…IDK) to discuss what it feels like to live a gay lifestyle, to what I thought was a pretty straight class. If not for the stupid questions from some immature students, the speaker gave a very “clean” explanation of what gays did and didn’t go through, for 1985. Anyway, in about 90 minutes I think, at least I got an outsider’s view of the gay perspective. I never discussed those issue, until we needed a decent grade. I didn’t “seek out” a gay opinion. That was the purpose of this class: to overcome prejudice through education. Isn’t that the real cure? I thought that was a very professional class, done by that professor. There was no textbook, just discussions started by guest speakers and sustained by the students. If it wasn’t done “tastefully”, the families had sufficient “influence” to change the curriculum, if they wanted to. I do not recall that ever happening, and I do believe he was still teaching there, last time I checked. And that was a very conservative, private school. I wasn’t at the class referenced above, but it certainly sounds like some radical leftie “teacher” just wanted to stir things up. Big deal. I wouldn’t have stayed (remember “my” class was in the mid-80′s), so I’m sure the class above would have waited until I left. I wouldn’t have waited to see that, and why would I even be in a class like that? But there’s a big difference in TEACHING a class and having a teacher sanction a frat party in a classroom. I thought my professor took a “taboo” topic and taught us something. We had much better parties in the dorms (when the nun‘s weren’t trying to burn it down! Yes Sister, I know it was an accident with the Sterno, but THAT was a 3 alarm OOPS!) than what this yahoo seems to have tried in his classroom. Yawn!

Had I been in that class and my daddy were still alive, that professor would NOT still be breathing when the class time rolled back around the next day. One of the first Sex Ed classes was in Hungary in 1919, introduced by a Marxist. More recently, many of those teaching in our universities were students in the 60′s when Herbert Marcuse , a marixist associated with the Frankfurt Scool at Colombia University, wrote a book that was very popular with the SDS, titled EROS and CIVILIZATION. He was a big fan of Freud and forsaw a world of “polymorphous perversity”. His ideas , “make love not war”, appealled to the pampered youth of the 60′s who sullenly criticized their hard working parents who had seen an opportunity to take hold of the American Dream and make something for themselves and their children. Those of us who did not get scooped up in the diabolical commie agenda are still asking ourselves how anything they offer can be seen by anyone to be a good thing? Of course ,we still see the merit of being an individual.

Each teacher can support 5 private sector people in their old age.

How about the king, Obama, if he really believes in social justice, he can spread his wealth. Michelle can give up only 40 of her servants and cover about 100 people’s old age retirement.

As though witnessing these things, or listening to others graphically describe their sexual exploits will make me more productive and useful to society.

It would also be interesting to know how many of those same students would say they are Christians or believe in a higher power than themselves. Edmund Burke once said, “Whatever disunites man from God, also disunites man from man.” and similarly Ronald Reagan stated “Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged.” There has been an ongoing assault on religion from the Progressives for generations and it is beginning to bear fruit for them.

Is it that under the name of education there is no law. A land where anything goes. You know children are born kind of empty and perhaps a standard of what is right and wrong would help them most. Yet we still remove the Ten Commandments from sight. Simply insanity. But in an insane world the sane man is looked upon as mad.

Sex has never been taboo. If it were, we wouldn’t reproduce. I think you meant promiscuity and fragrant sexuality were taboo. But then I’m lead to wonder, was this so in 1971? Seems to me that promiscuity was really getting cranked up during that time.
