‘Can We Get Back to the NCAA?’: Michael Moore Rips Obama on Libya

As we embark upon what very well may be our third war in the Middle East, anti-war filmmaker Michael Moore threw a temper tantrum on his Twitter account yesterday, blasting President Obama for joining our allies in intervening in Libya.
In a string of tweets–short messages sent out to a network of his followers–we see the man who doesn’t like to share his leftovers share his thoughts on the crisis in Libya. Here are those tweets, arranged chronologically:
WAR
We’re gonna keep bombing countries until we get it right.
C’mon, boys! Let’s put one in the win column!
It‘s only cause we’re defending the Libyan people from a tyrant! That’s why we bombed the Saudis last wk! Hahaha. Pentagon=comedy
And we always follow the French’s lead! Next thing you know, we’ll have free health care & free college! Yay war!
We’ve had a “no-fly zone” over Afghanistan for over 9 yrs. How’s that going?
I hope they defund NPR this week so we can afford this new war! Public radio makes us weak! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

Today, he went on to cynically enumerate what’s “wrong with this picture”–meaning America’s military action against Libya:
#1. If the Arab League supports this military action, why haven’t they sent in their Arab troops and planes in real amounts? Uh-huh
#2. Our job is 2 prop up Arab dictators (Saudi, Yemen, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, etc), not overthrow them & everyone in Arab world knows it
#3. So knock off “it’s our moral obligation 2 defend ppl of Libya.” After Iraq & Afghan & support of dictators, we have no moral standing.
#4. Too little, too late. So NOW we try 2 help the Libyans after Khaddafy has retaken most of country? Really just a big show, isn’t it?
#5. We have neither the troops, stomach, or $ to fight a ground war for months/years to defeat MK. So can we get back to the NCAA?
#6. Unrest forced France & others 2 close down their oil shipping from Libya. Khaddafy then offered China, 3rd World France’s oil. Oops.
Moore also suggested that Obama’s nobel peace prize be revoked: “May I suggest a 50-mile evacuation zone around Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize?”

The Arab nations only wanted a No-Fly zone, not a bombing campaign. Now, their mad at us for going to far. Anyway, the British and French have enough aircraft in the area to do he job, what are we there for? The French started all this, yet we are now in the lead, what happened there? Who are we to decide that every nation needs to be a democracy? The Arab world has survived without it for a thousand years. You can‘t just say ’here is a democracy, enjoy’ and then expect everything to be alright. These people don’t know what to do with it when they get it and the radical Islamists take advantage of the confusion to take over. Look at Iraq!! I hate dictators, but has anyone thought of the fact that people like Saddam Hussein and Qadahfi are against Al-Qaeda, and have kept them in check for years? As soon as we took out Hussein, Iraq was flooded with Al-Qaeda and other extremists. Not to mention that he was the only leader that kept Iran in check. Now look at what Iran is doing. We need to keep out of other nations internal politics, because every time we intervene, we end up creating future enemies for ourselves. Moore may be jerk, but he does get some things right on occasion.

Yep. I think you’re right. President Obama can still save this, though. He can invite Mu’ammer Qaddafi over to Brazil for a beer and some nuts, kick around a soccer ball, and explain that his initial reaction to Qaddafi’s reaction to the rebellion President Obama and big labor fomented against Qaddafi was wrong, and that President Obama is now sorry for bombing the daylights out of him. Maybe then Moore would find the faith again; springs of fresh water would flow through Mersa Matruh, daiseys would miraculously bloom in the Libyan desert, the rebels and the government forces would put down their guns and RPG’s, and have beers together, and a new era of Libyan peace under Col Qaddafi would begin.
Otherwise, this has devolved into “I am a man of peace. Accept our peaceful rebellion against your regime, or bammo — we will bomb the daylights out of you from 500 miles away.” Better make that two cases of José Cuervo and three bottles of tequila for kickers, Mr. President.

I hate to say this, but I feel we should get out of all those countries, aside, from backing Israel and Japan. They have all spit in our face over the years. You don’t want to play the game right , VAPORIZE them. No problem….
Honestly, I am tired of us being the world police and not being appreciated. I served in Saudi some years after Desert Storm, it never occured to me those people hated our guts. I think we really just need to focus on making our borders like a fortress, put money into defense, and keep ahead of the technological curve in weapons. This world is turning into a huge mess. Let them all kill each other. Take what we need by force, and screw the rest. Honestly, there isn’t a single person in this world who cares about our welfare. I would bet the house, if we “hardened” the United States, and got out of the way and let this crazy would fall apart, EVERYBODY, would want to put their money here in the US where it was safe. That is the main reason for economic investment. …. I know, I Am talking crazy today .. I Am just sick of the way we are treated by those over seas and especialy, by those here at home who, who just happen to be citizens because they were born here. Maybe we can jettison them into space as well.

Do you Progressive support Obama’s new war? You all once protested and marched as you shouted that Iraq was not a threat to the United States and we were wrong to start that war. Do you feel that way still about going to war with another nation that is not a threat to America? Please explain how Libya was that threat to our national security.
Do we have a right to choose sides in the internal struggles of a sovereign nation? Do we have a right to determine the outcome of their civil war? These are just of a few of the questions you must answer my Progressive friends. Libya will not be the last nation to face internal issues that the people of that nation need to resolve. Are we to interfere every time we feel a dictator should step down?
My Progressive friends where is you outrage at the death of children as we bomb their homes? Could it be you only have selective outpourings of rage when you can blame Bush for the loss of life and the destruction of a unjust war? Will Obama next start a war with Bahrain or Saudi Arabia to remove those dictators? Will you support him if he did so?
Shame on you my Progressive friends for valuing life less today just because Obama is the one with the blood of the innocent people on his hands. Is the oil worth the blood to you my Progressive friends?
