Can You Translate What Jay Carney Just Said While Trying to Defend Obama on Solyndra?

It’s been a rough week for White House Press Secretary Jay Carney. Last week he gave such a rambling answer to a question about Occupy Wall Street that it was comical (and awkward). This week he‘s back with an answer to a question comparing Obama’s green energy record to Mitt Romney, and it almost sounds like one of those TV reporters getting confused and tongue-tied on air.

Carney was essentially asked how Romney’s job at Bain is any different from Obama picking winners and losers in the green industry and gambling with taxpayer money. The obvious answer is probably something like, what the president did is worse. But that’s not even close to what Carney posited, which isn’t a complete surprise. But wait until you hear what he did say.

Here’s how Jim Treacher sets up the answer:

The job of the White House Press Secretary is simple: to answer questions from the press without actually answering them. To form aloud words that are assembled into sentences and then stacked up into paragraphs, giving the appearance of communication, but without communicating. When this job is done well, some listeners might even believe that a few real answers have been given.

This is how Hot Air describes it:

[...] 51 agonizing seconds of Carney trying to explain on the fly why Solyndra going bust is a normal win-some-lose-some result when you’re investing in new ventures whereas Bain’s investments going bust is proof that Mitt Romney’s a vampire who enjoys seeing people laid off. There are of course easy distinctions that can be made here, but unfortunately for JC they don’t favor his position. [...] If any of you manages to translate it into English, leave a note in the comments.

Here’s what Carney said:

Look, there, there, there is the, the difference in that your overall view of what, uh, your responsibilities are as president, and what your view of the economic future is. And, and the president believes, as he’s made clear, that a president’s responsibility is not just to, uh, those who win, but those who, in– for an example, in a company where, uh, there have been layoffs or a company that has gone bankrupt, that that, you know, we have to, uh, make sure that, uh, those folks have, uh, the means to find other employment, that they have, uh, the ability to train for, uh, other kinds of, uh, work, and that’s part of the overall responsibility the president has.

And here’s how he said it:

Got it?

You can see the reporter’s full exchange with Carney starting at 31:30 below (and notice how Carney takes a “those we don’t speak of“ approach to the name ”Solyndra”):

Go back and listen to every Obama speech and if you‘ll hear ’stutter, stutter, stutter, uh, stutter, uh, uh, stutter” in every one. ‘Uh, stutter‘ is what Obama made clear to him and that’s what Carney made clear as mud to us.

Jay, sweetie, wouldn’t it be easier to just say the truth. Telling lies and covering takes too much energy! Just say it ! You’ll feel better!!
You really hate your job and REGRET every day you’ve worked under King Barry.
Your boss is a complete sociopath hellbent on collapsing what’s left of the American economy. He‘s backstabber and a liar who doesn’t appreciate all the work you and anyone else has (wasted) put into making his time in office look legitimate. Solyndra was a complete sham and favor to the people who got your boss elected costing the taxpayers billions. Anyone with any kind of common sense and knowledge of at least three financial terms would be leagues ahead of your current boss.
Quit Jay. You can’t possible remember all the lies and schill!! It’s only natural. Quit now and you might get a job at Facebook like your predecessor, Robert Gibbs. That is if this company manages to stay afloat. I’m sure your boss will be happy to bail them out anyway, since FACEBOOK got Obama elected.

I actually read what is transcribed of Carney, and I found an answer to the question there, albeit merry’go roundish:

Carney says that the over all performance of Obama’s presidential duties do not need to consider sound, or any other, economic principals. He says it is altogether in Obama’s providence to make sure the government is taking care of everyone. And so long as this almighty provider is there to take care of those losers — and all the collateral damage — he picks, then YOU SHALT ALL BE SILENCED HENCEFORTH! (Well, the emphasized portion was my not what I read, but how I imagined the barker is imagining this carnival).

Yes, it does make sense when you get the red pencil out.

121 words went to 97 when the ums, ahs, and redundant words and phrases were taken out.

After correcting the grammar it came to 55 words.

      It should read:

“The difference is in what your view of the president’s responsibilities are, and what your view of the economic future is. A president’s responsibility is not just to consider those [people] who win, but those who have been laid off. We have to make sure that those folks have the means to find other employment.”

Unhappily, he did not answer the question, and the statement is wrong in itself.

The president gambled with TAXPAYER’S money with no mandate to do so, and in the event of the failure of Solyndra, and others, made no attempt (that has been published, anyway) to assist the employees to find other employment.

He is fully aware of this, hence the sputtering answer.

If the Blaze needs any further translations of political doublespeak, I will be happy to assist.

Carney is a bumbling apologist for the most FAILED administration in American history.

When our president takes taxpayers money to try to prop up already FAILING “Green” enterprises, with the hope that if they have more money to to blow the outcome will be different, he is abrogating his real responsibility and chasing pipe dreams. This whole administration is built on some socialist pipe dream. Obama is truly suffering from a serious case of ego driven daydreams, thinking that HE is the one and only person to save the world.

We, the voting public and TAXPAYING Americans need to, in November, show Obama that we will no longer allow our hard earned tax dollars to be wasted on his ECO-GARBAGE!

America will NOT follow the path of the failed European Union and their slide toward self destruction by commiting socialist suicide. WERE CLOSE BUT THE VOTERS CAN REVERSE THE TREND!

As for poor Jay, he will have a wonderful career in Hollywood aftre Obama is defeated. He can become the bumbling foil for straight man in most any comedy movie. He fits the part perfectly and is getting LOTS of practice answering for Obama.

“But we should learn something else, that when you stand for the truth, when you don’t let anger force you into stupidity, eventually the ship will right itself. You just have to remain standing. The people attacking you with lies will be buried under their own weight. I believe in this. It has been true for all of eternity in the past and all eternity in the future.” – Glenn Beck
