Canadian Teen Arrested for Allegedly Torching Jewish Classmate’s Hair

A teenager in Winnipeg, Canada, has been arrested after allegedly setting a Jewish classmate’s hair on fire. The incident reportedly unfolded after the 15-year-old boy made anti-Semitic remarks towards a 14-year-old girl.

The young boy has been charged with assault with a weapon, according to the Jewish Forward, after police investigated the Nov. 18 incident (more arrests may follow). The scenario apparently occurred in the hallway at Oak Park High School.

Authorities say the boy made anti-Jewish slurs, then pulled out a lighter and touched it to the girl’s hair hair. Below, watch a news report about the incident:

The Jewish Tribune reports:

According to Lawrence Lussier, Pembina Trails School Division superintendent, “There was definitely some racial comments made and some physical aggression occurred…[the] ends of [the girl’s] hair were singed [by a lighter].”

The school was made aware of the incident, when, three days after it took place, the female student came forward, telling a counsellor what occurred. The male student was then suspended, and has since withdrawn from the Charleswood-area school (where the female student continues to attend).

Apparently the teens had exchanged comments on social media prior ro the incident. Police also say that the boy’s Facebook profile also included anti-Jewish statements.

The boy wasn’t arrested until Dec. 4, as police weren’t notified about the incident until Nov. 25 — one week after it happened. Luckily, the girl didn’t suffer any injuries. A possible hate crimes charge may be pending. The school claims that the the boy was suspended immediately and that he has since been taken out of the school by his legal guardian.

The community is, understandably, disturbed by the situation.

      Well of course. If this act made her “happy” because her happiness is paramount. You see, there is no way of knowing that the girl whose hair was set was not already happy. She should surely want to be altruistic and bring happiness to the fire setter and manifest this mutual participation that they share.

      SMACKDOWN33 is right. And right there on the record: the girl’s hair was NOT set on fire. The headline said that, BUT the actual report said that the “ends of [the girl’s] hair were singed” do you know what singed means? Or is there no equivalent word for “singed” in Yiddish? In fact, she had to report it, days after, in order for anyone to have even known about it. So excuse me if I am UPSET that the WHITE COP KILLING African American gentleman has had his sentence commuted and will probably get pardoned by BHO as he exits office (like Bill did, remember?) and a HE SAID SHE SAID gets a boy sent to jail for having a spat with what is MOST LIKELY his ex-girlfriend. Are you really so silly to think that you could get away with this nonsense forever?       If you had actually taken time to read the article you would have seen that the boy in question has on more than one occasion expressed antisemitic feelings (as have you apparently). Instead you get as far a to see that the girl wasn’t seriously injured and assume that this hate crime is some kind of lovers quarrel. The only reason her hair was only singed is likely because hair isn‘t particularly flammable so a simple lighter wouldn’t cause much damage.
      Your comment, much like smackdown’s, serve to reinforce what we already knew to be the case: antisemitism is on the rise once again. You have admittedly labeled yourself a Christian supremacist, believing that Christianity is the only true religion and the only way to salvation. Jews have never espoused such a concept in all their history. Sure they believe that their religion is correct but they have never held that non-Jews would be condemned for not being Jewish; those are ideas utilized by some sects Christianity and Islam. Maybe you should take a better look at history and examine which religion has a history of bloodshed comparable to that of Islamists today. Crusades, Holy Wars, pogroms, blood libels, forced conversions, inquisitions, disputations, expulsions, etc. There’s a reason Zionism came into being and that reason is you. Jews decided they would no longer allow their survival to dependent on tolerant neighbors and would take control of their own future.

    Can you imagine if the boy was Christian or Jewish and the girl was a Muslim? This would have been a worldwide story. Still wrong and still hateful, but a much bigger story. It is amazing how intolerant people can be to Christians and Jews and it is still not the big deal it would be if a Muslim kids hair was set on fire. Wrong is wrong, period. Not condoning any of it.

    This is shocking and inexcusable, but frankly, how can anyone be truly shocked anymore,by what is going on in the world???? I would be willing to bet, that the the authors of “hate crime legislation” never thought it would come back to bite them in the a**. It was meant to punish whites against so-called minorities. Why does it take so long to recognize atrocities against certain people?? And such an obivious atttack of bias (my preference of terminology) to end in a condemnation of true haters??? Political correctness will be our undoing. Make no mistake!! Truly, how bad does it have to get before good people recognize the rise of antisemitism all around the globe? Our neighbors to the North and the US of A need to buckle down and nail this now. So do the Europeans, though they have been completely taken over by the elements of hate.       Josh, the point isn’t to belittle the Holocaust; it’s to point out that the kind of blind hatred that caused it is once again appearing worldwide. I empathize with your families suffering, but I feel that the best way to prevent another Holocaust is to face down the hatred that caused it. This boy may not be a Nazi murderer, but if we excuse his actions he or his children may one day reach that level. In Germany it started with Jews being treated differently, then being treated as inferior, and finally being treated like vermin that needed to be eradicated.

    Okay, I’m going to speak my peace once and for all. It will probably get my comment removed again on The Blaze. Maybe I’ll be lucky and this one will stay up. Whatever. Anyway, if we continue with this whole notion of ‘protected groups’ by the governments, whether it be based on race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc… instead of understanding the laws before govt made protected groups as the norm, it will come down to everyone who’s not in one these protected groups to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the laws because you committed a crime against a protected class. I’m sorry, but whether you harm a Jew, a Catholic, a black, a white, a French poodle (okay, maybe not the French poodle thing, because there are different set of laws for our furry friends =) should be treated for what it is. A crime against another fellow human being, leaving aside all the labels they’re placed in, but because the perpetrator infringe upon someone else’s rights. Yes words are hurtful, but remember the old saying..”sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me”? The over sensitivity of people today amazes me. As for this kid putting a lighter to the girls hair should be based on that, and that only. Then punish him.       It’s not about being a “protected” class. It’s about hatred towards people based upon their race, nationality, or religion. The point of talking about what happened here is that the boy’s reason for picking on this girl was that she was Jewish. Because she was a Jew he treated differently than other people. “It’s okay to set her hair on fire. She’s Jewish.” Just as blacks were once treated as inferior to whites, this boy saw her as being less of a person because of her background. This wasn’t some 8-year old trying to seem better than someone else, this was a teenager demonstrating clear discrimination.

      Claims of “discrimination” crackdowns are selective in nature.     It is awful, in the land of the Queen, that this Jewish girl was the subject of a hate crime in which she had the ends of her hair singed. I mean, the guy had a Facebook page which allegedly questioned Jewish behavior.

    In contrast, when 22-year old Rhea Page (white Gentile girl) was savagely beaten by four black women in the street screaming “kill the white bit*h”, and had clumps of hair physically pulled from her scalp, it was ruled to be not a hate crime, just yesterday.

    Equal Protection baby.

      Thats a cop out he still knows its wrong to do what he did.I had a jewish friend as a young man If someone would have tried someting like that with him they would have been passing ignited gas for awhile.
      I guess it is just the times,if my sons had done this they would have paid a heavy price.

    Jewish isn’t a race, it’s a religion. You can be a Christian blonde haired, blue eyed guy named Thor Ingerversollingerson von Tauchenaggingschlesing and convert to Judaism.

    And for the record, I’d love to have that name, but my wife would have words waiting for me if I tried to make it so! :)

      Many Jews see themselves as a nationality. They have a shared history, culture, ancestry (in most cases), and, yes, religion. It’s as racist as calling a German immigrant a Nazi because Nazis were German. German isn’t a race per say, it’s a nationality.

      Jews are a people. Yes, anyone can convert and you are absorbed into the people. Jews are a middle-eastern people (yes, really from Israel) and tend to look similar to the peoples surrounding Israel. There are genetic markers for middle-eastern people just as with Italians and Northern Europeans. The Jewish people who are descended from Aaron (brother of Moses ) carry the genetic marker called the “Kohanim gene” (Priest gene), and much has been written on this. Most Jews today are still aware of whether they are descended from the priests Kohane, the Levites , or Israelites and this can be confirmed through the male . Just as you can look Italian, you can look middle-eastern, no need to fear.

      You are incorrect Ghost. Jewish is a race, and there is also a Jewish religion. Many try to mix the two, but they’re not the same. The Jewish race are the physical descendants of Jacob. The Jewish religion are currently those that are led by “rabbis”, none of whom were called to that office by the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. You will not find the term “rabbi” anywhere in the Tanakh (the Old Testament), because that position did not exist, and was not one created by the God of Israel.

      Frankly, modern-day Judaism has little to do with Biblical Judaism, and is based more on the words of rabbis than the words of Scripture.
