CNN canceled former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer’s “In the Arena” and announced major changes to its primetime lineup in a news release Wednesday.
Starting Aug. 8, CNN will air “Anderson Cooper 360” at 8 p.m., replacing Spitzer, and will rebroadcast the show during its current 10 p.m. timeslot.
Spitzer’s publicist told TV Newser: “We engaged serious people in conversations about national and global issues in a way that was informative and challenging. I believe that we provided diverse and valuable perspectives during the show’s tenure. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at CNN.”
The network will premiere a new general news show hosted by Erin Burnett at 7 p.m., pushing “John King USA” back to 6 p.m. and “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. “Piers Morgan Tonight” will continue to air at 9 p.m.
Spitzer joined CNN last October with the premiere of “Parker Spitzer.” In February, the show was renamed “In the Arena” when former host Kathleen Parker left the show amid much controversy and “backstage clashes and disagreements.”
“In the Arena” has struggled with perennially low ratings, as shown by these numbers from Friday, July 1. (Source: TV Newser)

Try Anderson next.

It’s good to see yet again some other BIG network/prog company
try to reshuffle the chairs on their sinking ship’s decks.
They never think it’s just THEM.
They just don’t think they have the right combo to get visitors.
(So lets change things up a bit)…
To ALL those propaganda outlets trying to past as ‘real news’.
It‘s not the line up that’s causing you losses, it’s the line of BS
your shoveling that’s making you irrelevant.
Who’s NEXT?
Is Media matters going to change their name to Media Really Matters?
Yea, that’s the ticket, people will REALLY believe our lies now. LMAO

Posted on July 6, 2011 at 2:55pmAMF Spitzer. Now if only CNN would CANCEL themselves that would make for even better news.
Just a thought, Chris Matthews? Well too many medicated individuals watch him so I guess we have to keep those nut jobs coherent with their own kind.

Posted on July 6, 2011 at 4:10pmSaranda;
Nancy Grace is often interesting, if you like hearing about all the murder trials going on. But her introductory/recap segments can cause seizures (bunch of flashes, random comments, and short bursts for the ADD crowd)… It’s as bad as the tv advertisements inbetween segments. That is one of the main turnoffs for my family for watching her show.
Actually I hate tv advertisements in general, tius one of the reasons we stopped watching tv in general and switched to netflix/internet options.

Posted on July 6, 2011 at 6:22pm@Saranda ~ Agreed. In fact I find all of those HLN numbers very suspicious.
Report Post »passenger
Posted on July 6, 2011 at 7:41pmI have nothing against Nancy Grace, but her show’s ratings have obviously been boosted lately due to the Casey Anthony trial. She has a ratings feast or famine depending upon specific issues, so her individual daily ratings are always anomalous. That’s not good or bad; just the nature of her show.
What you have to look at is the overall numbers over a large period of time. And whether you like him or not, Beck gave FOX a solid delivery for years. Furthermore, over a large sampling period, FOX is trouncing the competition on any given night.
