Carney Tells White House Side of ‘Speechgate’: Boehner Didn’t Object at First

President Obama has backed down from his plan to bump the Republican Debate so he can give yet another jobs speech, but the White House‘s explanation for what’s now been dubbed “Speechgate” appears dubious to many.

Here are the facts: the Republican debate at the Reagan Library was scheduled for 8PM this coming Wednesday night and was set months in advance. The White House, however, decided to ask for a joint session of Congress to give a jobs speech (not a State of the Union, not a declaration of war) at the same time.

This morning on MSNBC, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney gave an after-action report on the White House’s side of the story and brushed off any notion that the speech scheduling decision was a petty partisan stunt. Carney said of the White House’s decision:

Our intention was merely for the president to address a joint session of congress as soon as possible upon congress’ return to the White House. Both houses will be in session on next Wednesday. We asked for that day. We contacted the speaker’s office. No objection was raised at that time. The letter went forward. The speaker came back later in the day saying there was a problem with that, logistical. That’s fine. We’ll go Thursday.

Carney topped off the eyebrow-raising monologue with “Americans are sick and tired of partisan bickering, the gridlock.”

Watch the video of Carney’s response here, courtesy of MSNBC:

Rush Limbaugh, however, isn’t buying this whole ordeal as a coincidence. In advance of the MSNBC appearance this morning and the White House’s capitulation, he got fired up on Wednesday after Carney gave a dismissive press conference discussing the schedule conflict. Rush ripped into Carney for what he believed are misleading statements made by the Press Secretary.

Rush pointed out that Obama had time for a two-week vacation on Martha’s Vineyard this month, and 80 rounds of golf during his presidency. Rush simply refused to believe the pretense that the White House was acting out of earnest urgency with its jobs speech scheduling.

In response to Carney’s glib denial of any partisan intent, Rush asked: “How much are you paid to lie to the American people, Jay?”

You can listen to Limbaugh‘s full rant on the White House’s Speech-Gate stunt here, courtesy of Daily Rushbo:

Like him or not, Rush Limabaugh has extended the life of this Great Republic by 20 years. If not for Rush, conservatism would have died an ugly death long ago. This country would have become a european style socialist hell hole. He gave the GOP and conservatives the principles and huevos to fight the liberal/progressive onslaught. We still may not survive, but he kept us alive. Now let’s go win our country back for Ronaldus Magnus and Rush Limbaugh!

It seems as though Obama and his posse can’t do anything right these days. They are so out of touch and so dug in to their own propaganda they don‘t even know when they’re being partisan or just being the leechy, parasitic, community agitators they are. Their brains are simply wired to lie and agitate every chance they get.

There will be no common ground and true bipartisanship until Obama, his puppet Carney and the rest of these clowns are gone in 2012.

Let’s see, they are either so INCOMPETENT that they don’t pay the least attention to any other events that are scheduled in the fairly immediate future, especially with the opposition party, or so engrossed PETTY PARTISANSHIP that they would try to upstage the GOP vetting who BO’s replacement will be. I don’t personally believe that everyone around him is that incompetent, but if that’s the argument he wants to make, I’ll concede the point!

What I find hysterical about the aptly named “Carney” is his rank duplicitous nature. From his annoying lisp to his nerdy countenance, you know he’s lying to you but decorum prevents you from slapping his head.
Yesterday he smugly gave “persmission” to NBC to air the debate another night..and today it’s “That’s fine. We’ll go Thursday”…..the creep.
All Obama wants to do is showboat in front of congress for another photo op. The agitator in chief wants to APPEAR presidential and to take a few cheap shots at the GOP while they’re in front of him, without the GOP being able to respond.

for O to make the speech 24 hours later than planned is no big deal. What IS the big deal is that the speech, like all his others, will be a continuation of his campaign. O has NEVER gotten out of campaign mode. Never. Never will either.

I‘m sure he’s going to say we have to spend more to make more jobs, something that failed when it was tried earlier in his presidency.

      hey KNOCKERED,

that was 535million total; along with 50-60 million in tax credits ( probably where your 58 million comes from)

point is — it is worse than you thought.

just like the electric cars…only a couple of thousand have been sold; yet there is a waiting list!

the reason is a shortage of the form of Lithium needed for the batteries. (I read this in Scientific American in the past 12 months- my source). It comes from outside the USA and either is extremely difficult to extract or there is not enough. Typical progressive thinking.

Who cares about Palin!!!!! Don’t care!!!!!!! SHE doesn’t effect my paycheck, my mortgage, nothing… Obama’s policies DO. Congress’s policies DO. The only thing going for Palin in my eyes is that she has not been among the policy makers in congress that have led us to this state of utter disgrace. If you really believe that congress and this administration are doing what is in favor of Americans and not what is in favor of lining their own pockets, then you really are a simpleton. But instead of name calling – I am more interested in finding solutions to this mess of a country we have right now. If you think taxing the “rich” and distributing it to the “poor” is the answer…NEVER has that ideology worked. I am in the lower middle class and I do not want the ‘rich’ giving to me in any form- unless it is a job where I can work. Look at what really matters. Hate for Bush or Palin is fine and fun…what the hell! But does it offer ANY SOLUTIONS –NO!
