Casey Anthony Weeps as Prosecutors Deliver Closing Arguments

ORLANDO, Fla. (The Blaze/AP) — Casey Anthony briefly wept Sunday as prosecutors told jurors during closing arguments that she murdered her 2-year-old daughter Caylee to reclaim the carefree life she had before the girl was born. CBS Video:

Prosecutors portrayed Anthony as a young mother who killed her daughter because she got in the way of her love life.

“Something needed to be sacrificed, that something was either the life she wanted or the life thrust upon her. She chose to sacrifice her child,” prosecutor Jeff Ashton said during his 90-minute argument.

Defense attorney Jose Baez said the prosecutors’ case was so weak they tried to portray Anthony as “a lying, no-good slut“ and that their forensic evidence was based on a ”fantasy.” He said Caylee’s death was “an accident that snowballed out of control.”

Prosecutors contend Caylee was suffocated with duct tape by a mother who then crafted elaborate lies to mislead investigators and her parents. Defense attorneys countered that the toddler accidentally drowned in the family swimming pool, and that her mother in fact was hiding emotional distress caused by alleged sexual abuse from her father. Her father has denied that claim.

Judge Belvin Perry ruled Sunday morning that there was no evidence of such a claim and that the defense could not allude to it in closing arguments. Jury deliberations are now expected to begin Monday.

As I spend the few precious moments I have for such things commenting on stories here,I realize the changes that are being made here do not add to the discourse. They have eliminated a few paid trolls. They have made commercial spamming easy. They have removed my ability to “question with boldness” those who make unsupportable statements. And they have eliminated my ability to discuss a subject at length. For good or for bad…..I am not happy.

I guess “innocent until proven guilty” doesn’t apply to this case?? Murdering a child is horrible, but until the jury proves her guilty, we shouldn’t rush to judge her, or assume she is guilty.

    Juries do NOT prove anything.
Evidence, either existant or non-existant prove guilt or innocence.
Her bizarre behavior has made her seem guilty, the evidence MORE than supports her guilt. The jury is in the unique position of deciding her guilt or innocence. I think I know what will be done, but that means nothing. I certainly hope justice is done.

With wall to wall coverage of the trial on tv, you see the same thing the jury is seeeing and therefore can make a decision based on the same evidence/arguments that the jury is seeing. From what I’ve seen, guilty.

It is not the job of the jury to prove her guilty. That is up to the defense. It is the job of the jury to find her guilty or not. And so far, the rest of us in the country still have a right to an opinion about that, and there is nothing wrong with expressing it, whatever you think. Just don’t tell someone else that they should not.

I watched the entire closing arguement of the defense team. Reguardless of if I think she is guilty or not, they did an excellent job of blowing holes in the prosecutions case. Holes big enough to cause that jury to have some doubts. Personally I think the father is involved in this thing up to his eyeballs. I’d also like to see the mom get charged with perjury.

The parents of Casey have been through enough. The father never molested her and the grandparents did everything they could to help spoiled, selfish Casey raise the baby in a loving environment. She is a psychopath who was living a double life of lies and deceit. Then she throws her whole family under the bus to save her own skin. She is such an accomplished liar her parents, friends, relatives and boyfreind had no idea what she was doing and what she was capable of. Dont judge until you walk a mile in their shoes. They will never heal from the damage their souless daughter has heaped upon them. Cindy showed the kind of love for Casey that Casey was incapable of having for Caylee and should not be charged with perjury.

I have to agree with you. I followed the case from the beginning, read all transcripts of the trial and looked at piles of evidence. They all show guilt and know what happened, but George holds the most guilt in the cover up, bc it was an accident I believe. The charges need to be placed upon all of them.

Lisa Lake. There is a lot in this story that adds up in a very bizarre fashion. Some day the truth will be told. From day one the mom was “guilty” and convicted by the media. I for one do not believe she is alone in this tale. Too many questions….having cared for folks who experienced ‘abuse’ i do not consider it to be outside the realm of possibilities— that she was indeed abused. Something is very much not right with the story “painted” by the prosecution…IMHO.

I believe she is guilty, too. Nothing she has claimed has made any sense and, if true, it would have been brought up long before the trial. She has spent three years in jail, if there was a story that would have gotten her out before now, she would have told it.

And what kind of a good mother would know her child is gone and party it up for days, even staying overnight with her boy friend. Guilty as hell. If she had acted concerned, worried, and called the police to report it, I could almost believe her story. But she did none of this. She partied it up, just what she wanted.

I’m thinking they should have taken a harder look at the meter reader. He‘s looking like he’s more involved than someone who just found a body. Was the Anthony home on his route? If so, he would have had a lot of opportunity to stalk that precious little girl. I’m wondering if this is like the Ramsey case, where the investigators wasted precious time by focusing on the parents instead of hunting down the real killer.

As strange as the Anthonys are – because of the even stranger and poorly investigated meter reader, if I was on the jury I would have to say “not guilty!”

Well, we’ll see what the jury decides. I see no way that this child wasn’t killed by her mother. I weep for the child, but I’m sincerely heart broken for the grandparents who loved this baby, and now they will be losing their daughter. The daughter who didn’t care enough for her own child and preferred to do sleep-overs with her boyfriend rather than take care of the little one. Selfish little Casey. And a liar to try to pin it on her Dad. Throw mud and see where it sticks, huh? Guilty as sin! God rest the baby’s soul and God bless the grieving grandparents, she never grieved a bit.
