HAVANA (AP) — Fidel Castro says his comments about Cuba’s communist economic model were misinterpreted by a visiting American journalist.
Appearing at the University of Havana on Friday, the 84-year-old ex-president says he meant “exactly the opposite” of the quote contained in a blog by Atlantic magazine reporter Jeffrey Goldberg.
Goldberg wrote Wednesday that he asked Castro if Cuba’s economic system was still worth exporting to other countries. He said that Castro replied: “The Cuban model doesn’t even work for us anymore.”

Posted on September 11, 2010 at 7:50pmI remember reading an add about N. Korea. In the past 3 years they have gone through around 10 finance ministers. I think that is the name. That position is just like the economic board that Obama has. The finance ministers are in charge of trying to make their economy work. Around 4 have been fired because the economy was not improving after using command system of economics. The other 6 got fired because they were starting to use more free enterprise system and the economy was growing a bit. The new guy would come in and do the command system and the economy would die, and then get fired for killing the economy. I love stories that have Irony in them.

Posted on September 11, 2010 at 11:52amThe reporter (Goldberg) caught Castro at a clear, lucid moment and he spoke the truth. He knows his time is short and is now trying to get into heaven after all the evil he has bestowed upon Cuba.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 5:34pmSo, why haven’t the sanctions against Cuba been lifted? Would it be too obvious in some way? Would Obama keep sanctions in place to keep people from thinking he’s a communist sympathizer? Which he seems to be. Collective Salvation and all that. I guess Obama and Fidel are both fans of Marx.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 4:55pmWhat is the secret to selling this socialist idea in this country? With all the failures in the past and all the evil men that are behind them you would think we would not give it a second thought. Why would so many americans look at these other countries and say yes that’s what I want. Is it a case of the bigger the lie the more people will believe it?

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 4:42pmIt’s really kind of difficult to imagine how something that cut and dried could be so completely misinterpreted. Castro must have thought he was talking to a Cuban journalist who would never have reported that.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 3:47pmYeah, we need a new system… let me think… Many of the world systems are not functioning like they should anymore. soooo I got an idea, let’s merge them all into one socialized system. Workers of the world unite! Yeah, That will fix it. Where is Che Guevara and Obama? Maybe they can help with this new revolution.
Uhhhh NO… I don’t think so.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 4:34pmCastro has been doing this for years, and even did it to his buddies USSR. Once the FSU fell, they remembered Castros games and left him flat. He’s the model for the presant idealist that we have to deal with now. The problem is Castro is stupid and always was. If he wants to stimulate the Cuban economy and get some Luker, all he has to do is threaten to soak 10,000 Korans in pigs blood and then set them on fire.
