Catherine Zeta-Jones Treated for Bipolar Disorder at Mental Health Facility

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Catherine Zeta-Jones is heading back to work this week after seeking inpatient treatment for bipolar disorder.

A spokeswoman for Zeta-Jones says that “after dealing with the stress of the past year,” the 41-year-old actress “made the decision to check into a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her bipolar II disorder.”

Publicist CeCe Yorke says Zeta-Jones is “feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films.”

Zeta-Jones is married to Michael Douglas, who battled throat cancer last year and declared in January that he is cancer free after undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. The couple has a 10-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter.

Bipolar II disorder is characterized by mood swings and depressive episodes and is commonly treated with medication and psychotherapy.

    She’s out there.
She said on Leno once that she and the entire family skinny dip in the pool together.
    The audience vocally cringed.
She’s beautiful, but she’s just more hollywood trash.

Rich and beautiful and successful . . . as opposed to poor, ugly, fat, stupid and lazy . . . that’s the difference between Hollywood trash and Tea Party trash.

The one thing that was quit obvious back in the day when I was chasing skirts

The hotter the woman, the crazier she was.

And yes my woman has some mental health problems :)

In the olden days, bi-polar was called manic-depressive. I have no idea why there was a need to rename it.

What ever happened to inner strength, perseverance,self-control, mind-over-matter,helping those less fortunate or the best….PRAYING and handing your problems over to The Good Lord? My grandmother raised 12 kids and didn’t have much but the necessities; then she raised a couple more of us grandkids. When she had a bad day, she’d work in her garden until it was near dark. When she came in,made dinner, bathed the kids and prayed….she was so tired she went to sleep. The next morning, she always said her problems were gone because she’d worked them all away. When we would mope around, she’d always give us a job to do to “work our problems away”—something physical like scrubbing a floor, raking the yard, etc. She’d sure be surprised to find out that now-a-days all we have to do is take a pill. A lot of things could still be remedied with good ol’ fashion elbow grease. Kids today don’t even know what that means. They sit on their butts, play computer games, watch TV, get fat, get lazy and grow up and end up taking pills for their…..problems?? Comparatively speaking this generation wouldn’t know a “real” problem if it hit them in the face.

There is a HUGE difference between feeling blue and severe mental illness. Bi-polar people are sick. They NEED medication and help. You can’t *just* pray about it or pick yourself up by the bootstraps. I don’t know why she chose to release this information. Maybe a tabloid was planning a story? And really, I have as much respect for her as I do for Hugh Hefner’s 24 year old fiance, Crystal Harris…none. But, I doubt this was easy for her. My father suffered for 45 years before treatment other than electroshock was available. It is VERY real.

I guess you would never go to a hospital. You’ld just take care of it yourself.

It seems to me recognizing you have a problem and going to get help for it is part of self-reliance. She’s taking care of herself by making use of the best resources around her.

She may do that as well. Sometimes mental illness requires extra support. If she needed extra support, I applaud her for getting the extra support. I hope it was the right support for her and that it helps her. I hate that mental illness is stigmatized in our society where other illnesses are not. I believe the right kinds of mental health support are gifts from God and God would want us to use them (the wrong kinds of support are not gifts from God, but are demonic). We hear our grandparents talk about so-and-so who was crazy. Perhaps that person needed extra support, but it wasn’t available then because of the stigma attached to mental illnesses back then. I am so thankful to God that the stigma is lessening and I pray that the stigma keeps lessening so that support for mental illnesses improves for people. Yes, we need God and we need to cast our cares on Him, but I believe God places people in our lives to help us along this journey in life and perhaps mental health professionals (the right ones) may be God-sent.

I could have diagnosed her years ago. She’s not bipolar. She’s a witch who acts like little miss nicey pants in front of the cameras. She suffers, or rather, chooses to suffer from the same thing obama does: excessive ego and detachment from reality. Due to this psychosis (common among uber liberals) it wouldn’t surprise me if she were a liberal.

Sorry there isn’t more sympathy for another human being…just because they are “STARS” doesn‘t mean they are devoid of life’s problems. Jesus Solves Every Problem….it‘s a sure bet that Meds don’t. I’m pretty sure everything is treated with MEDS these days. Be wary of side effects: Possible risk of several cancers, suicidal thoughts, loss of *****, skin peeling, eyelids drooping, loss of libido, bone loss, cartilage deterioration, muscle dystrophy, and etc.
Man, my doc better write another script soon since I can’t live without this shiite.

Seriously… has anyone heard those commercials where the side effects seem worse than the original problem?
