Caught: Man Buckles in ‘Diego’ Doll to Drive in HOV Lane

SEATTLE (AP) — Diego was a model passenger, sitting quietly with seat belt buckled, never fidgeting. But it was the huge, unblinking eyes that made a Washington state trooper suspicious.
The state patrol says troopers were stationed Nov. 29 along an Interstate 405 onramp, pulling over people who were driving in the high occupancy lane with only one person in the car. That’s when the odd “passenger” drew one trooper’s notice.
The patrol says the trooper stopped the car and found the driver had placed a stuffed Diego doll from the Nickelodeon children’s show “Go, Diego, Go!” in the front passenger seat. The unidentified driver said he was late for work so he drove off with his daughter’s doll so he could use the HOV lane.
The driver was cited for the HOV lane violation.

Take a look at I95 in northern Virginia or highway 50 in Maryland and can see the stupid HOV lanes at 10 percent capacity while the regular lanes are at a standstill for hours. This happens almost every day here.

Posted on December 10, 2010 at 5:41pmI honestly don’t see how this is actually a nationally newsworthy story….except maybe that the guy used an ANNOYING Diego doll (I HATE that show;).
Years ago while working in downtown Phx, every single morning I encountered on one stretch of the 51s, traffic in all lanes backed-up horribly b/c of those !&$!)^*%$! speed cameras! Every lane, EXCEPT the HOV lane, that is, which was always virtually empty.
As this DROVE ME UP A WALL sitting there morning-after-morning, I used to have an all-white styrofoam “head” that I modified/darkened, especially on the right side, that during the winter months when it was still dark out when I went in, I carefully placed into my backpack down to the neckline. I then zippered the backpack up to/around the chin, and even seat-belted that crazy head! Then, donning a ball cap pulled over his eyes, “we” jumped into the near-empty HOV lane and flew past 2+ miles of a chronically senseless back-up! Of course, I would never do that now. . . . . .they removed the speed cameras. ;)
