Caught on Video: Neighbors Make Dramatic Rescue in Raging Brazilian Mudslide

Recent torrential rains and mudslides have killed hundreds of people in one of the nation’s worst natural disasters in decades. So far, neighbors have watched as their neighbors homes have swept away in a calamity that’s claimed at least 460 lives, with many more missing.
In a dramatic scene caught on tape, a woman was pulled to safety by her neighbors as a wall of water and mud swept away her livelihood:
The Associated Press reports:
Flooding and mudslides are common in Brazil when the summer rains come, but this week’s slides were among the worst in recent memory. The disasters unduly punish the poor, who often live in rickety shacks perched perilously on steep hillsides with little or no foundations. But even the rich did not escape the damage in Teresopolis, where large homes were washed away.
“I have friends still lost in all of this mud,” said Carols Eurico, a resident of the city’s Campo Grande neighborhood, as he motioned to a sea of destruction behind him. “It’s all gone. It’s all over now. We’re putting ourselves in the hands of God.”

Posted on January 14, 2011 at 5:03amI just hope the redesign their towns, home etc so the next time it happens they are better equipped better to handle it next time. Around me the same people get flooded our again and again and say “oh we will not move” and taxpayers bail them out. Then the same houses get washed out again. SURPRISE you live in a flood plain. If you choose to live in a flood plain then get your own insurance & be prepaid or get no help the next time it happens.

There is a natural way, with out alot of regulation. This could have, maybe been avoided if only gread wasnt invoilved, I agree with EZDOZIT, Gore is a putts
