Evo Morales is a socialist, but I’m not sure this is an Alinsky-approved tactic.
The New York Times says the match featured teams made up of political rivals. BBC News says things turned nasty within five minutes:
Mr Morales was fouled by an opposition player, Daniel Gustavo Cartagena.
In an apparent retaliation caught on video, he was seen kneeing Mr Cartagena in the genitals, sending him sprawling.
“I passed the ball and, suddenly, I got hit, and not for the first time,” the president said later.
After receiving treatment for injury, Mr Morales played on, and scored a goal.
President Morales was not penalized. The other player was ejected. After the game, police actually tried to arrest the man! Now we’re talking socialist tactics.

Posted on October 6, 2010 at 10:12amHe’s setting some example for the youth of Bolivia. But then again, he did exactly what one would expect from a politician. I just hope that the Bolivian youth and adults do not try to emulate him.

Posted on October 6, 2010 at 9:25amThis guy is just a puppet, he gets his marching orders from Venezuela, Cuba, and Russia. I was in Bolivia for the period of time leading up to his “election,” and I can tell you he only obtained power because everyone who had any experience or posessed the ability to lead was scared to death of the riots and chaos that had happened every time another president was elected that wasnt him. Evo is nothing more that an agitator, a socialist dog barking at the rest of the world for not giving him power. Now that he has the power he cant seem to stop barking, or kicking apparently. This guy was just lucky it wasn’t 10 years ago. Evo got his start as a leader of the Cocaleros (cocaine growing cartel) and it was well known that enemies of the Cocaleros just disappeared, instead of recieving a shot to the pills.

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 11:24pmI ran into Mr. Morales 3 days after his election in the airport in Cochabamba. His posse was dressed like a presidential cabinet would, but Evo himself was dressed like the dork from next door, with street clothes on. Got a nice picture with Mr. Socialista in the airport. The fact that this guy achieved becoming president still baffles me.

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 8:43pmIf Morales (that must mean “lacking morals in Spanish) is so ‘awesome’ why don’t you go play soccer with him. That was a punk move. Don’t we have some STD kits laying around from Guatemala we can send to Bolivia?

Posted on October 6, 2010 at 9:18amThe problem with the “long exploited peasant class” as you put it, isn’t that they have never been given the chance to rise out of poverty. Morales isn’t changing that. He’s confiscated private property, imprisioned political rivals, and tried to silence anyone who disagrees with him. True, he has thrown some bones to his bird dogs in the COB (central obrero boliviano, look it up) and he has pretended to walk the indigeonous party line, but in the end the people are still in poverty, busines and creativity are still stiffled, and there remains a large “peasant class” with no more recourse to lift themselves out of poverty than before.
