Caught on Video: Janet Huckabee Protests Traffic Ticket With Ark. State Trooper

Janet Huckabee, wife of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, appeared in Pulaski County District Court last week and received a “reserve judgment,” an agreement that previous charges of careless and prohibited driving would be dismissed if Huckabee doesn’t get into any more vehicular trouble for at least six months. The charges stem from a September 20, 2010 accident in which an Arkansas State Trooper charged Huckabee for merging into the lane of another car, causing a three-vehicle accident. Witnesses in the accident claimed Huckabee had been talking on a cell phone at the time — a charge she forcefully contested.

Newly released video obtained by the Arkansas Times captured Huckabee’s heated exchange with the police officer just after being issued a ticket for accident:

Janet Huckabee – “Did she say I was on the phone?”

Trooper Blackmon – “Ma’am, that has nothing to do with it.”

Huckabee – “It has everything to do with it.

Trooper – “No it doesn’t.”

Huckabee – “It has to do with whether I am telling the truth or not.”

Trooper – “Okay, they gave me an exact description of your vehicle. I mean…”

Huckabee – “That’s why I stopped up here. Yeah, that’s right. I realize there was a vehicle and we were both merging.”

Trooper – “They gave me an exact description of your vehicle. They told me exactly what you were doing. You told me that you were going into their lane as well.”

Huckabee – “Did she tell you I was talking on the phone?”

Trooper – “Ma’am, that has nothing to do with…”

Huckabee – “I just want an answer from you. Did she tell you I was talking on the phone?”

Trooper – “She didn’t tell me. The passenger told me.”

Huckabee – “That is a lie. That is an out lie.”

Trooper – “Ma’am, I don’t have anything to…”

Huckabee – “So if that is a lie how can I know that the other part is not a lie.”

Trooper – “Ma’am, you verified it by your own statement.”

Huckabee – “I said I was merging but I said she was merging.”

Trooper – “Okay, well she said she wasn’t merging.”

Huckabee – “She also said I was on the phone. So if one is a lie, why shouldn’t the other be a lie?”

Huckabee’s attorney, Kevin Crass, has released the following statement regarding the case:

You should be aware that we made no admissions at the hearing. In fact, the prosecutor admitted that the witness would be unable to testify that Mrs. Huckabee was on the phone. She had to because the phone records showed the only activity on the phone that morning was the 911 call after the wreck. If you were falsely accused of an act, as she was, I suspect you would react defensively as well. By the way, the $100 fee was not a fine. We continue to contest the facts and the ticket but sometimes you are better off taking what the state offers.

    the story is important because the left will make it important. if the blaze waited until the left covered it ad infinitm (my apologies for the spelling), then it would appear defensive. we have a right to confront accusers and accusations. yes, they should have gotten further off the road. also, if you’ve already gotten the ticket, it puts you in a much more defensive position than before the ticket is written. love the comment about the strings and cans.

    The Question shouldn’t be if she was on the phone, she didn’t get a ticket for being on the phone, did she? The ticket should be for causing the accident, and that she was merging onto a highway when it happened!…. Making her the Cause of it! She’s at fault! They have signs that say yield when merging into traffic! That means don’t just step on it and think the cars do 55 to 60 miles and hour, are going to stop for you doing 25mph!

    The officer showed an enormous amount of patience and respect. Much more than I would have.The officer made the point that the cell phone wasn’t important; that she went into the other cars lane and caused the accident. I like Mike, but that’s how I see it. Why is this an important Blaze story exactly?

      I agree, since Beck announced that he was hiring high level editors, and managers for this site it has actually gotten worse. I am sure the site makes money from the amount of ads I see, but to think that this is a solid source of credible news is a stretch at best.
      The trolls have almost ruined the site anyway; with more comments in most stories replying to a troll instead of commenting on the story.

      With all due respect, please think for a second. Why so quick to think that this is a Beck smear at Huckabee? For starters, Glenn does not pick and choose the stories (yes, of course he has influence)! He started the site and hired a staff, including journalists, to find and write about the news you will either not find in the mainstream media, or not find the whole story there. Consider for a second that if this story ever airs on CBS, MSNBC, CNN, etc, it will likely come across a bit differently, to say the least. I sometimes think to myself about how boring or useless a story might be here, but the pattern I see suggests that it is about getting the story out and getting it right, before it is used by the left. If the left can use/spin it, then there is a good chance you will find it here. C’mon people! If you think you know Glenn, then you know how he rolls, and how he doesn’t roll. This petty crud is not his style. Could any of you imagine him roasting Huckabee’s wife on the radio just to jab at his political career? Exactly. Not to mention, Glenn’s wife would have his arse for it. So either he is playing secret dirty games, or there is more to consider. Those who know Glenn’s character, know better.

      Besides, I don’t think Huckabee really has a good shot (neither would McCain, if he had the audacity to run again).

      Have you ever considered that it is hear so you can see the whole context and video and then if the left tries to spin it if Huckabee becomes the Republican nominee which I personally hope never happens but at least you will be informed and the far left cannot spin it without some of us knowing what really happened. Some of you if you have this many faults with a site trying to share things that may either be of present interest to some or used for future leftist propaganda just need to start your own news site then everything will be perfect and totally fair at all times.

    As a 22 yr trooper to another trooper, Mrs Huckabee got more of your time on the shoulder of a busy highway than I would have given her. The interstate is no place for this kind of discussion with people milling about outside their cars. Courts and coffee shops are the places for these conversations. Be professional, but cut it short and to the point; You know its going to court . . .

      That was my same concern the whole way through the video and I’m not a police officer. There was all that grassy area off to side to discuss how it happened. Anyone of those cars or trucks could have hit the cruiser and taken everyone of them out. It’s a shame that a police officer would get that comfortable standing out on the freeway in the manor the he did. With his back to the traffic at that.

      I can’t stand Huckabee…. I never seen such a fake in my life. I heard his words as he and the rest of the Rino‘s decided Romney wasn’t one of them because of their faith in Carolina, so they made a pact to make sure that at all costs, Romney lost. They didn’t care which one of them won, as they knew they would all take care of one another. Not that Romney is so hot himself, but I do know he isn’t part of the Good ol Boys, he is very good with economics, and he was one of the few that was publicly all of the TARP bail outs. I don’t know, all I do know if we can’t take another Dem/Liberal wining another 4 years. We need somebody who can’t be influenced by favors, which is the exact reason Romney is ideal. Of course, this is the same reason he didn’t win, because he couldn’t be bought off. Trust me, this is what it is all about, nothing else.
      I know he won’t match many of the ideals of us here, but I think he can get elected by the independents and like Beck, and Palin, money means nothing to the man, as he really seems to live by virtues, not for power and money. Like Regan, that is what made the difference. Of course, this is what makes it an uphill battle as well. Hard to beat the establishment conservative, even with “tons” of money. Maybe I am wrong, but I could certainly see Romney/Palin being a powerful ticket. Not that there isn’t other candidates I would prefer, but I just don’t thin they can win.

      @Hobbs57 I agree with you wholeheartedly Huckabee really did show what a bigot and rino he was and was sucking up to McCain so much that even he got sick of it. They really did Mitt Romney dirty. I blame Huckabee as much as ex Fl governor Charlie Christ for Obama being elected as Mitt Romney is the only one who stood a chance at winning against either Clinton or Obama and that is where my turning point really happened when I realized that rinos are as bad as the far left and need to be rooted out of office at all levels. I do like Mike Huckabee as a person as we are all human and have flaws but I do not think he has enough character to be presidential material, because we the American people deserve much better than him.

      Dangit Janet, This is why to ALL you don’t SAY anything, its all being recorded its NOT the officers fault this is his/her job and its in YOUR best interest to not say anything, outside of what you need to.
      Accident happens and they say you did something you didn’t do like say talking on your cell that EVERYONE knows can be easily proven/disproven through phone records.. You sit on that and take your ticket etc and go to court you have your evidence ready then in front of a judge (the correct audience for such an outburst as above, attitude permitting) you present evidence that they are lying. It’s the judicial process its takes a LONG dang time, but in the end you win and your NOT a youtube fail.

      @ missionarydad… You are right on Target.. Charlie Crist is was the exact reason it fell apart. I am glad you know this as well. It was Crist who said they wern’t going to endorse anybody, so Jed Bush, kept his public endorsement quit(as he was going to endorse Romney) and Floridians really liked Jed. Then, last minute, Crist pulled a snake move with McCain and also that Cuban Senator, and Roney never had a chance to make up for it. Also, the lies McCain spewed.
      I am with you, I never realized how they are all a bunch of“Establishment” Conservatives. I never really realized how it all worked to that point, as I was following that race very closely. Romeny never recovered after Florida, which, I think he should have won. Also, Huckabee was/is strongly against Mitt’s faith and ended up only ruining the race by stealing votes. As he will do again this time if he runs. I can’t even believe he is going to try. I am not as kind as you with my feelings towards him, I can’t barely watch his show on the weekends, it seems like the crowd is from another planet or something. They way they clap bothers me and I can’t figure out for the life how he keeps getting the exact same kind of people every week…lol
      Mitt has done enough to court the Tea Party, but then again, he doesn’t try to court anybody. I am an X-Mormon, but I have a great respect for the faith and I know were Mitt’s morals are based and I now we are all individuals, but after seeing his family and his boys, I believe he is a good man. He needs to relax a little more and I hope his last run has helped him to be a bit more comfortable. I am just afraid that too many conservatives are going to run, just because they can raise the money to run. None of those guys put their own money in the last race, not like Mitt did. The media even tried to twist it and act as if he was buying his nomination, but I want somebody who isn’t under financial obligations and have to pay back favors. Honestly, I don’t see Mitt being bought. Nor Bauchman, Palin, or Ron Paul, they are good honest Americans.
      Lastly, I loved when Crist started to kiss Obama’s butt after McCain lost. Going so far as to change party’s. That weasel got what he deserved. What disturbs me is how many Americans still vote for people like him. As if they have no ability to judge character, atleast on their own anyways, when the media attacks a person’s character, as they even tried with Mitt ( because McCain was their RINO), people believe them. Thank goodness for Glenn Beck ad the Tea Party movement, as I believe people finally understand how corrupt the media has always been.

      Her arguement about one lie means the rest is lies reminds me of this:

      A highway patrol officer pulls over a woman doing 120MPH on the highway. He askes her what the rush is. She says she was racing to get to the gravel pit to dispose of her dead husbands body.

      “Your husband‘s dead ma’am? Where is the body?”

      “In the trunk of course”

      “And how did your husband die?”

      “I shot him to death with the gun in my glove compartment”

      “You have the murder weapon in your glove compartment?”

      “Yes”

      He then hand cuffs her, sets her on the side of the road and calls for a supervisor. The supervisor shows up and finds the woman sitting quietly and asks the officer for his report. The supervisor takes the womans keys and pops the trunk and finds…only a spare tire. He then opens the glove compartment and only finds a map, tissue box and sunglasses. The supervisor then goes and sits by the woman and says:

      “Ma’am, by officer hear tells me that you confessed to murdering your husband, stuffing him in the trunk and hiding the gun you killed him with in the glove compartment, what do you have to say to that?”

      “Yeah, right…next thing you know he’ll claim I was speeding!”

      And that is how one woman got out of her speeding ticket.

      This is nothing, it’s a battle of words and nonsense to even be getting media attention. The good thing is that since it does try to show some what of a negative slant which is probably trying to target Mr. Huckabee’s credibility that is fine by me because he is a wishy washy RINO anyways. The only one qualified to be running in 2012 is Dr. Ron Paul and we should be contacting him fervently to persuade him to run again and put our full support behind him so we don‘t divide the conservative vote by other RINO’s and weak conservatives running also.

      What a disappointment with Mrs. Huckabee. We have a county commissioner in Colorado who tries the same thing when he gets in trouble. It’s like: “Don’t you know who I am?“ ”I have a lot of influential friends.“ ”Can’t you just give me a warning on going 61 in a 45 mile zone, I’m running late?” According to him, he never did anything wrong because he was too important. Mrs. Huckabee doing this is quite similiar and I don’t like it one bit. Who the heck does she think she is? Wife of a former Governor doesn’t get her diddle. She knew what she did.

      I don’t get those of you complaining about this story being here. You claim they shouldn’t run this and we should instead have REAL News…..well there is plenty of REAL News, this is extra stuff…..why can’t you just not read it if you are uninterested? Its no skin off your nose. When you become editor of your own site you can pick what is presented and not, until then stop trying to find ulterior motives for the current editors, who by the way are doing a wonderful job..how about be thankful we have this outlet?

      You have got to give this officer credit for being so patient. I mean really, how many times does he have to tell her that she can argue the case in court. HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      HOBBS! thank god somebody else feels that way about Huckabee! I was beginning to think everyone thought he walked on water. Here in Arkansas while he was Governor we saw exactly what he was. Kids in school now have to do a body mass index test every year. He did exactly what Michelle Obama is doing. They pulled all of the vending machines out so now kids can’t even buy a COKE! RINO fits him perfectly. My kids don’t drink that stuff regularly. Our decision is to teach them how to be responsible about things. It’s there if you want it, just do it in moderation. Of course, to these liberals none of us are smart enough to raise our own children…… Idiots. My point is, he is no better than Obama. He shoved legislation down our throats here and God Forbid he become president, he’d do it to all of you too.
