Caught on Video: Leopard Attacks Villagers in India

A leopard has injured seven villagers, including two minors, in northern India.
The incident took place in Bhawaria village of the state, when villagers saw the big cat roaming in nearby fields, and tried to scare it away.
The locals chased the leopard to a field and set the grass on fire to smoke out the animal.
The leopard came out of the burning field and attacked the gathered people, and ran and hid in the nearby woods.

Under Hinduism (to the best of my knowledge), leopards, cows, rats, cobras, tigers, etc., are sacred and not to be harmed. I’m sure there are others more knowledgeable about this than I am.

So ‘devoted dad’ what would you do if it were in your backyard stalking your children…. I’d shoot it on sight. Maybe you’d just keep your kid inside, maybe the cat would leave. Maybe it would eat your kid when you thought it left. Are you a liberal? Wrong website, try the huffington post it might be more your liking.

These cats have been brought to the brink of extinction because of poaching and acts like this. I‘m sure your next comment will be that I’m a tree hugging liberal, I am far from it I hunt every season and eat the meat I kill. I noticed that was a sugar cane field so they are not a poor village relatively speaking, so I doubt they would eat the cat.

In general you are correct, the big cats will go out of their way as much as possible to avoid humans, yet there are documented cases in which the leopards have – mostly due to age or injury, turned to the easier prey they CAN hunt in this rare instances. That being people.
It is rare, yet does happen.
Most likely this cat was after the peoples pets or even livestock/poultry/etc.

Then again, why would most people who should know what one of these cats can do, actually stand in front of the claws and teeth in the first place?

These cats are so pushed for space by people they have little natural woods to hunt in, and are a problem among many of the outlying communities of big cities.
