Caught on Video: Police in Bahrain Open Fire on Protesters 800 Wounded

USA Today:

MANAMA, Bahrain — Hundreds of people were injured in violent clashes Sunday between protesters and armed civilians backed by police in this small island nation.

The latest violence came after a month of protests led by the Shiite majority to demand sweeping political reforms and possibly the ouster of the nation’s Western-allied Sunni monarchy.

The government’s Ministry of Interior said in a statement that protest camp tents from near the harbor were “removed.”

The statement said attempts by uniformed police officers to persuade the protesters to re-open a road reached an impasse and that a group of protesters attacked unarmed police officers.

Police then sought to disperse approximately 350 protesters by using tear gas in order to clear the road, the statement said.

Sayed Hadi Almoosawi, a leader of the Alwefaq opposition group, said police and anti-riot squads stationed near the harbor also fired rubber bullets.

Clashes also were reported at the University of Bahrain in Sakheer South Bahrain. The school then announced it will stop lectures in the campus until further notice.

In all, more than 800 people were injured, four of them critically, said Ahmad Alumran of Salmaniya hospital.

There has been a certain amount of prudence in buying mideast oil over the years, and saving our own for “hard times”.Ecspecially since we could buy it cheaper than we could produce our own.Whether the cost in lives was all worth it is debatable. If we didn’t buy it other rival countries would have. They also would have then had the strategic alliances of the region to form a huge adversary against the “west”.There is and has been a very big chess game in session as to strategically benefit from our oil relationship with the mideast. It is quite a bit more complicated than just oil.Although oil is the big money factor everyone has enjoyed cheap gas for decades.Buy a jug of water now and compare the price to actual processing costs of each one .If we do not buy the mideast oil ,some dictators will and form alliances against us.That option may be ripe now that their peak oil is over[if it is].The overall cost now may be advantageous to consider allowing them to work themselves over, and back out of their “family arguments”.Regardless, it is foolish to disregard our own oil supplies and buy their oil when we know it adds to their wealth to kill us.Never the less some will buy their oil and they will use that money to kill us.It is said that keep your friends close ,but your enemies closer.I guess there is some truth in that.

Well said ChasBronson, I have always wondered if the strategic plan was to use the environmental movement as a cover to preserve our oil while sucking the rest of the world dry. Then we will still have petro to fly our war planes and launch our satellites (military planners can be quite astute when it comes to long term strategic planning). Some day that north slope (of Alaska) and all that off shore oil in the gulf and off California will undoubtedly be very valuable real estate, assuming we don’t find an alternative by then.

The Founders warned us about foreign entanglements. Part of their concern was no doubt tempered by their more intimate knowledge of the costs to our then small nation associated with fielding armies and navies in European conflicts, but they also understood that picking sides affected trade, and that affects the livelihood of our nation.

I don’t think of Arabs (Sunni) or Persians (Shiite) as our friends. Both adhere to the same “Hate-Filled Holy Book” (to quote an annoying liberal). But, through the short sightedness of politicians in DC, our nation has become dependent on oil from the Arabs. This makes them our allies, if not our friends, when conflict arises between the Persians and Arabs.

If it weren’t for our dependence on their oil, I would have no problem just sitting this out and letting the two sides fight to the finish. Since that is not an option, our politicians need to get it together before we find the Persians have won this engagement and proceed to cut us off.

Our economy is already weakened enough and will collapse entirely if we lose 20% of our energy supply overnight. Beyond the immediate threat to Arab oil though our politicians need to begin NOW developing our own know reserves and resources. Anything less is treasonous.

Why do you think the liberals hate the second amendment. Can you just see Obama giving the Union members weapons to kill innocent citizens so he could act just like the dictator thugs in the middle east. This is why we should impeach Obama now he has already committed plenty offences against our constitution. He has admitted on video he was born in Kenya, he is not a legal citizen born in the US.

      @newdemsheeple

Our “rights” in the Constitution are very specific. Along with Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit o’ Happiness, please reference the part of the Constitution that gives anyone the rights of which you speak. You are either misinformed or dishonest…I think the latter. Certainly unions are free to ask for collective bargaining “privileges”, but they can not force that upon their employer and it certainly is not a “right”. Given the history of the unions, I’m hard pressed to understand why any employer, corporation, or gov’t agency would oblige.

Also, when laws are changed by a new legislature, they are legally enacted. If you don’t like it too bad. Next time win your mid-term or general election!!! To spin your words and try to imply that “outlawing” existing laws is somehow a bad thing is ridiculous. The days of Spin from the lunatic left are over. Grow up and face reality, stand on your own two feet and stop feeding off “WE THE PEOPLE”. ….rf

At what point do they stop being governments and start being brutal tyrants?

Handing out cash isn’t going to work and neither is killing them (aka intimidation). Those days are coming to an end. For a Saudi Prince to openly say maybe women should drive shows just how nervous the ruling “authorities” are in that neck of the woods.

Put our drill heads in the ground here and all of a sudden, because the money isn;t flowing to tyrants anymore, Muslims around the world aren’t galvanized against the West anymore, they finally look and point straight to their own “leaders”.

I am happy as pie to see Muslims standing up. Finally the whole world can see just what they are made of. Are they, as a people, as an ummah, focused on killing everybody else or are they focused on the corruption within their own countries? No more excuses, no more media spin, no more few speaking for them all. It is great to see the mighty Arab (and non Arab) street “rising up”. Let’s just see what those people really want. 1. We will be independent and free of muslim arm-twisting

We supposedly have an oil field in the Dakotas that make Saudi’s fields look small. If we drill that and sell it/use it, that could be a singular event that puts us so far on top of the global economy that EVERYTHING sold in America would be so cheap, maybe reduce/eliminate the need for Federal/state taxes….just all around plentiful wealth for American citizens!
Environment? Why not build pipelines securely underground, with some kind of sensors to detect leaks? We can then afford to hire public sector peeps whose job it is to go find and fix leaks?
Thanks, Cheese! What an idea, huh? To be a Nation even richer than Saudi, and not ever have to worry about billionares like Bin-Laden!

I wonder if b/c leadership in the US is so weak now other nations feel the need to rise up. Like the socialists mentality when they were in power had the attitude of “either now or never” I wonder if that plays a part in some of these nations. They know BHO is weak and unqualified and know he will not act even when US interests are threatened. Maybe its for the best to let them duke it out then we will deal with what will come out of it all……. with BHO in power it will probably be dealt with a bowing down!

I‘m all for bringing our troops back home but first we have to make sure that we’re gonna start drilling for oil & once that oil is in production & ready to hit our gas stations it will be time to bring our heroes back home .
Time is running out we need to start this second before the next second .
America cannot survive for the time being without the oil from the middle east @ the same time the middle east cannot survive without sell us their oil what they’re gonna do with it ? they can’t store it forever .
USA drill drill drill , this is the answer .

      @cheez

We can not underestimate the cost of all the nation building we have done over the decades in arab countries. Our costs go way beyond the actual cost of the oil. =Big Savings
We need to get our troops out asap and put the savings into getting off chinas books and defending America.

One tiny problem. What will happen to the oil fields that cost so many American lives? I care about those, and the ineffable sacrifice that was made. Parts of the ME are kind of holy ground.
      ______
      Just like Normandy.
But what can we do ?
Once we show a determination to be self-reliant , and start putting processes in place to follow through, that powderkeg called ME will have to figure out a way to survive.
If the arabs want to keep their own economy going, they will find a way to keep their own oil wells secured. They are the ones always telling us the difference between ‘muwaten” and foreigners.
Personally I’d like to see the cartel called OPEC crumble . Which if followed by the OIC crumble will be like a cherry on top :D

We can dream all day long, but we are not oil-independent, and there is no way we could produce enough oil to bring global prices down. No way
      ——————–
      Have we tried ?
Have we even made an effort to try ?
Do we plan to make an effort to try ?
Your argument is just like what the DHS says about securing our southern border.
If they wanted to secure it , they would have tried to do it .
DHS knows the border can be secured, thats why they shoot down each and every effort to secure it . They activate the MFMedia to come down like a ton of bricks on anyone who desires or works towards securing this country .
      I wonder why ?

Not only that, here is another aspect .
If someone here knows about Mina Rashid , plz consider this :
Imagine what will happen to Mina Rashid and the Palms if one fine day, the multi-millionaire and billionaire USA hating Hollywood types find out that Mina Rashid is totally unguarded and in 100% arab hands ???? What if US ships DO NOT need Jabel Ali anymore ? Can you imagine what it will do to THEIR economy ?
We are the ones supporting with our blood, sweat, tears and money all that affluence, we can pull the plug anytime.
IF WE HAVE OUR OWN OIL RESOURCES.

      Cheez,
Don’t know if you will check back. Drill here, drill now is my motto, but we can’t act rashly. The ME is on fire, and we are not oil-independent yet (and won’t be, as long as Obama & friends are in power). I am not a Palin fan, but I know she’s for real about cutting the umbilical cord with OPEC (Chavez included as well).

Securing our borders is an entirely different matter. We have the resources to secure the southern border AND get rid of most illegals expeditiously, but any move in that direction by a Repub prez would devolve into civil war.

On a personal note, I will mourn if we lose Iraq, and I hope to God O stands trial if we do.
