CBO Director: ObamaCare Will ‘Discourage People From Working’

Democrats denied it while many conservatives warned it. Now, Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf is warning that the most significant economic effect of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul will be driving people from the job market:
“For the economy outside the health sector, the most significant impact of the legislation will be through the labor market,” Elmendorf said at an Oct. 22 conference sponsored by the Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics at the University of Southern California. “We estimated that the legislation, on net, will reduce the amount of labor used in the economy by roughly half a percent, primarily by reducing the amount that people choose to work,” he said.
“Some provisions of the legislation will discourage people from working more hours or entering the workforce, and other provisions will encourage them to work more,” he said, adding that “[t]he net reduction in the supply of labor is largely attributable to the substantial expansion of Medicaid and the provision of subsidies through the new insurance exchanges.”
As CNSNews.com notes, Elmendorf’s analysis of the health care law’s economic impact supports House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) remarks about the subsidies in the health care bill enabling people to quit their regular jobs and pursue their artistic dreams because the government would now provide their health care.
“We see it as an entrepreneurial bill,” Pelosi said, “a bill that says to someone, if you want to be creative and be a musician or whatever, you can leave your work, focus on your talent, your skill, your passion, your aspirations because you will have health care.”

I also know a handful of small business owners who either had to lay off workers or couldn’t hire because of Obamacare. I think smart people see that Obama took a bad economy and made it worse. The WORST of it won’t hit until 2013, AFTER the Presidential election of 2012, where he obviously planned on being re-elected.
There is a way to NEARLY guarantee the REPEAL of Obamacare, IF the establishment Republicans are up to it. If they AREN’T, the Tea Party will take care of them too in 2012.

There are jobs out there, albeit, less higher paying ones, but many, many people are riding a free ticket with the available freebies. That is what the progressives aim for, to keep the economy down and drain households of their securities, putting the majority on the same low level. Separate the ranks. Something else to consider that’s old news,,,,,,,this is how socialism is initiated, with the promise of a government that they will take care of you while they continue their ‘scheme’ to derail democracy. Once they have you, your lifestyle and everything about it will be dictated to you. Yea, they’ll take care of you all right. As for the Obama Care and Stimulus, I think Americans have that pretty much figured out. Its a sham and a complete disgrace. I sometimes wish I could just throw my hands up and say ‘gimme mine’ but it’s not in me. I want something more out of life. I want to know everything, and I want to enjoy all life has to offer. I have known many who’s only joy in life is finding a babysitter and going to the bar on their social security while, once again, the rent doesn’t get paid. Some like to buy things only to throw them away or just abandon them when they get kicked out of whichever hole they were allowed to rent or crash at for a while. My niece’s mother is a prime example. They are raised in ignorance, but they learn very well how to work the system for all it’s worth. My dead brother’s social security pays for HER shopping sprees. Let me tell you, there are faaaaarrrrr too many people out there making more people who have no desire to be anything more than taken care of. It is a vicious cycle being protected and promoted by the ones who want control. Don’t teach the slaves to read, they might want to know more.

Someone has to be in power. Personally, I will take the repubs because they are closer to my way of thinking. I am not comparing them to what we have now, but the classic democrat. Both sides have sold out. Both are power hungry. But I would take Bush back any day over what we have now.
I am hoping that it will NOT be more of the same though. I am hoping that we can at least get back to some of the Reagan ideals. I am hoping that the tea party candidates remain true to their word (a new leaf to turn over for ANY politician) and seriously start work to downsize bureaucracy and fix some of the things we are stuck with like health care and ss. I am hoping that groundwork is laid so we can make some real progress in 2012. I am also hoping that all these pot smoking, lsd freaked out socialist radicals will all either die or retire and right thinking democrats can once again regain control of their party. When both parties can at least work together again.
Maybe it is a foolish dream…Maybe America is destined to change into something entirely different. I am a Christian and I see prophecy being fulfilled. If this is nearing the end times then I do NOT want to stop that or slow it down. Maybe this is all God’s plan. But as long as there is a breath of life left in me and in this country then I will fight to get it back to the America I grew up in…For my kids and grandkids to enjoy…

The CBO estimates the drop at roughly 1/2%; do they take into account the part of people being unable to work when small businesses have to let them go to cover the penalties, or close down due to the fines imposed upon each one? What about those people who would not be able to work since the fines they will have to pay to the IRS-KGB Inc. will potentially see many with property confiscated and no places to live – hence no jobs – and then ones who would wind up in jail for the failure to pay the IRS-KGB.
Sounds like this is the Progressives master plan all along to collapse the economy, take over the education system (Socialists only will be funded for college grants as the party wants them, where they want them, and for what they want them to do), the banks, the industries when they invest into wall street via the Social Security system funds and such…

I know someone who lost their job their unemployment wasn’t all that much so they went to see about food stamps.. well the government nsisted they get a medical card also since there was a child involved.. NOW there are 4 different types of MEDICAID you can get and they want you to pick one out. They asked me to help decide or explain what each one was but I was of no use since none of the 4 plans tell you WHAT they include or exclude or how much they would have to pay. it’s more complicated than the insurance forms you get from your place of employment..They were told they have NO choice but to sign up for one plan or another.. even their website has no help they refer you to yet ANOTHER department..and have even a different plan if you live in certain states.. I would say that it has created at least 5,000 new government jobs and 40 new departments..This person has a few interviews this week and is hoping to get a job with insurance they can’t take the STRESS of all this new government BS.. This is only the FIRST arm of the new HEALTH CARE plan with their new mandates.. This will stop people from working cause they will have a full time job trying to figure out what the H3LL all the red tape and mandates mean..

Report Post »I think a fine solution to the unemployment problem is DOMESTIC employment. Glenn asked each of us to give one of the unemployed a job…just think, you have that extra room, you could work better at YOUR job if you had help at home cleaning and getting a hot meal on the table, doing the laundry, running errands etc. And you‘d be putting a roof over someone’s head, giving them a little money and food in their stomach. If they LIVE-IN, you can exchange housing for part of their monetary compensation. Unfortunately, you do still have to file employee taxes which is a hassle, but better than being sued by malcontents! [Ask Meg] Oh, and don’t count on the DOMESTIC EMPOYMENT AGENCY to always vet the people they send to you. Post a notice at your church. Domestic work is a great profession and should be seen as an opportunity for many of those who find themselves looking for a job! When did the average household quit providing this niche? We certainly have the room to spare for a Live-in and the food waste in my home could easily feed that extra mouth.
I am white, well educated [grad school] not afraid to work and always enjoyed home/kitchen life, so I worked for a number of families as their cook, nanny, dog walker,chauffer and housekeeper. I was always well treated. I now have 2 restaurants which is ALOT harder and pays less!
