CBS Reporter Pulls Out of CPAC Awards Ceremony After She ‘Reconfirmed’

Did CBS News Pull Reporter Sharyl Attkisson From a CPAC Awards Ceremony?

CBS News investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson did not attend an awards ceremony at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday as expected, despite reportedly confirming she would be there.

Attkisson, who has been covering the fallout from Operation Fast and Furious, was slated to accept  an award from the conservative watchdog group Accuracy in Media. Instead, Accuracy in Media spokesman Logan Churchwell told Talking Points Memo Attkisson had been sent on an assignment out of town. CBS News’ Washington bureau chief Christopher Isham accepted it on her behalf.

When Accuracy in Media first announced its award recipients, Churchwell said Attkisson had “confirmed and reconfirmed” her attendance at CPAC to accept it in person.

But that changed when it came time to accept the award.

“Sharyl was very sorry not to be here today, she is traveling out of town on assignment, so I’m going to accept this award on her behalf, on behalf of CBS News,” Isham said, adding that Attkisson would be donating the proceeds from her award to the family of slain Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

As Politico noted, Attkisson was the first reporter from a non-conservative media outlet to receive an award from the group. A CBS News spokesperson, responding to the announcement at the time, said its journalists are “regularly honored by a broad spectrum of organizations.”

On her Twitter page, Attkisson re-tweeted two messages from other users about being on assignment for CBS and unable to accept the award in person. She responded to one message about donating her award money to the Terry family, saying: “I wish I could do more for Brian Terry!”

In October, Attkisson told radio host Laura Ingraham on her program that a White House official “screamed” and “cussed” at her over her Fast and Furious coverage.

What I get out of it is that the “press”, which is supposedly politically neutral, has been very liberal for many years and since the power shift is moving from liberal to conservative the press is reflecting it and moving more conservative. That is if they want to make any money by people watching/reading their stories. I think the general public is obviously more conservative than liberal and the press want to make more money by having more followers. Look at how little MSLSD (MSNBC for the un-initiate) makes in $$$ compared to more conservative television. Follow the money gang!

CBS is really missing the big picture.
Atkisson’s journalistic integrity would tend to draw more viewers
to the CBS network, than any of the other Liberal Losers.

She is a win-win for CBS & they are too dumb to realize it.
You would think, they would have been delighted to learn of her award
& sent her to the CPAC Convention with bells, whistles & blessings.

Other than Jake tapper, she’s about the ONLY real journalist, out there-

Funny, no mention of the fact that the award was actually given by a group called (with much irony) Acuracy In Media (AIM), which is basically an anti-gay, birther, kill-the-gays in Uganda organization that makes this website look like the Rachel Maddow show. It’s kind of like accepting an award from the KKK.

Furthermore, even the Foreign Dictator is a birther because he said he was born in Asia. Stop thinking Fox News is a conservative outlet. I‘m afraid it’s very clear that it’s a network designed to co-opt you, and your like minded conservative thinkers, into the political diatribe and debate the progressive machine wants you to place belief and passion in. The sooner you realize this, the quicker you will see through the obvious propaganda game being played. The discourse of the hosts might be genuine, but it is heavily tailored; those who refuse the game, end up like Beck and Napolitano.

    Here’s my conspiracy theory.

She’s about to uncover why oil has floated around $100/barrel while we have had uprising after uprising in the Middle East; as well as the very real threat of all out war between Iran, along with her allies, and Israel, along with her allies.

It’s an interesting strategy, secretly introduce the Strategic US Oil Reserve to the oil supply, artificially driving up supply in the market to keep crude costs artificially deflated and the North American lifestyle almost stable.

Does anyone wonder how a Category 2 hurricane causes more speculation in the price of oil than the very vocal threats of Iran sea mining the Hormuz? Every time Iran makes a threat, and speculation threatens to raise the cost of crude, we open our reserve to compensate. It’s only a matter of time before the story breaks, the real question is: Will it break before the reserve runs dry?

      Posted on February 10, 2012 at 3:10pm

Oh, and also consider the oil sanctions against Iran which should also be causing oil prices to rise. Interesting how the US is stating they will work with countries on finding new sources and new deals to replace the Iranian supply for those countries that purchase oil from Iran.Yet, oil still floats around $100/barrel, even after removing the Iranian supply from the market. Not only are we using our reserves, the likelihood of us currently selling it off is very real. We may soon find ourselves in a World War centered in the world’s largest oil field, with out a substantial reserve with which to fight the war.

Beck says imagine if oil hits $5/gallon, I say, imagine if the cost of oil were priceless to me and you because it all went to the allied war machine and there was NONE at your local Shell or Exxon station. Under these conditions, Americans would have no other options other than to fight the war, regardless of whether or not they agreed to it on principle. That, to me, is where we’re headed.

The news business (that is, the business of going out and getting the news… not the business of re-posting everybody else’s work and making snide comments) often demands us to change our life plans. ‘In a small way CBS is likely dissing CPAC by following orders from the WH and shipping her off on “another story.” ‘

If that *were* the case, I would think Attkisson wouldn’t go for it. She’s being honored for her credibility by the same folks that trash CBS as much as they can (perhaps deservedly so) over a perceived lack of credibility. Why would she impugn herself or allow herself to be impugned?

If CBS were pressuring her. She’d probably be the first to spill guts about it. She can’t be worried CBS would fire her for it. If they did fire her, she wins in the long run!

      – She probably has a contract they would need to pay out. She’d get a hunk of a settlement.

      – Another organization would hire her in a heartbeat, just to make press. She’d probably get a pay raise! Look at Juan Williams! Getting fired from NPR over his own honesty was the best thing that could have happened to him!
