Censorship? London Mayor Bans ‘Not Gay! Ex-Gay, Post-Gay and Proud’ Bus Ads

Homosexuality continues to be a highly-debated issue both in America and across the globe. England is no exception, as those stating views that are deemed to be anti-gay have found themselves in a great deal of trouble. In the latest free-speech flap, London Mayor Boris Johnson has stepped in and decided to ban bus advertisements supporting “ex-gays.”

The intention of the advertisements seemed to be an effort to defend those individuals who no longer consider themselves homosexual — a controversial transformation and notion that many gay activists deem an impossibility. The Christian Post has more:

The advert featured the slogan: “Not gay! Ex-gay, Post-gay and proud. Get over it!”

It had been due to appear on London buses along five routes for two weeks, starting Monday.

The ad had previously been cleared by advertising regulators and given the go-ahead, however, London Mayor Boris Johnson weighed in on the issue, using his position as chairman of Transport for London to ban it from London’s buses.

According to Johnson, London has an obligation to be “intolerant of intolerance.” The mayor went on to say that it is offensive, in his view, to claim that being gay is an illness that can be recovered from. This mere suggestion, Johnson claims, was enough to cause him to implement the ban.

U.K. Christian groups Anglican Mainstream and Core Issues Trust — the groups that originated the ads — are charging that Johnson is unfairly censoring them.

“We are saddened that this level of censorship is in operation in a city that regards itself as tolerant,” said Dr. Mike Davidson, director of Core Issues Trust. ”We think that this is a mistake and we think it is very important that people have the opportunity to debate freely from all points of view.”

The ads were planned as a response to a separate campaign launched by Stonewall, a gay rights group. Stonewall had placed 1,000 pro-gay marriage ads on buses in an effort to redefine marriage to include gay couples. These messages were allowed.

      If it’s a private entity, that’s called having standards.
      Only government entities that attempt to enforce speech codes fulfill the definition of censorship.
      It‘s a shame when people on our OWN side don’t even get the concept of the 1st amendment…

    I will go even further. This pertains to the bill of rights. That’s right. When Hitler told the British to stay out of WW2 after the invasion of Poland, how did they respond? The British populace told Hitler to not ENFORCE his policies of despotism upon them. This ‘official’ is cramming a law down your throats to which there will be no recourse in the end…it can be bent by a future Hitler to his own ends—it is broad and it is scary. Don’t tell me how to think or feel. Homosexuality is wrong and verbally should be denounced by leaders of stature. One obviously cannot legislate ‘straightdom’ either except in the realm of marriage. America is better when Europe stays out of our business. Seems to me, Britain and France will always be in our debt after the events of the 20th. century.

      Britain and France are not in Americas debt. The opposite is true. Without Britain the entire European continent would have turned communist as the ussr would have swept through France and Britain after finishing off the Germans . The cold war would have ended very differently had Europe and Russia acted as one.

      Without France and Britain who outside north America can the usa rely on? Both Iraq and Afghanistan, who were always there with you? The British army! Who lost over a thousand troops in said wars? The British army! Without us, you would be on your own. We both need eachother for different reasons. Europe is your bridge to the world. Without us you would be isolated. Us brits are far more similar to Americans then we are do 90% of Europeans.

    God created woman, with a specific sexual part

    God did not intend a mans organ to be used in a orifice with a different purpose

    God did not intend for a woman to use another woman’s sexual part for non-reproductive activity

    Gods creation of sexual parts have a specific reason, and a purpose – Reproduction

    uses of sexual parts and activities for anything other than reproduction is not natural

    God loves gays, but not their sexual activities.

    Gays are loved, there would be very much less condemnation
    if gays would just keep their sexual activities private.

      Frankly, the more I hear this “God loves the person, but not his activity”, the more often I start puking.
      This postulate frees anybody from his/her responsibility for his/her/ actions: as if it’s not the person who commits an abominable act, but rather the act is being committed by itself.

You become something other than Christian if you do. those who are called and chosen…do what is right because they know God. They have been forgiven, so they forgive. Those who feel God will only love them if they do XXX whatever, fill in the blank. Grace is …God did it, and you Love because you were loved. Without that…you are in works. If you must force others to your beliefs, you don’t have anything they would want. How is a wife supposed to win an unbelieving husband? by a bible over the head? nope. Did Jesus say to then force the town to believe or to shake the dust off your sandals ?

      If I recall correctly he was with glsen when they partnered with United Way to help kids learn more detail about the sexually deviant behaviors that are involved in an alternate lifestyle choice. It was pretty gross what they were showing kids.

      Unless god wrote the bible himself. How can you know it is the word of god? You are trusting in the interpretation of man.

      There is only one person in my head, and it is not god. So I cannot think as god thinks. I cannot know what he knows. So I cannot be positive of his existence. God is not in us. God does not know us. Nor does he judge us. If there is a god, we are no more then an experiment, more likely an accident. Were not special. If god is real and when I die, I am judged. I know my tolerance of all who wish no harm on me will overide my doubts of his existence.

    What does god have to do with being gay? And if god is real. God made gays. And as god is in everyone and everything. That means gods in every mans bum right now. Doesn’t that make god gay? Sounds like a mega bummer to me. And Jesus certainly had a lot of male “friends”. So he’s basically gay.

    Homosexuality is a mutation. Just like blue eyes. Just like autism. Just like the ability to lick our own elbow for god sake. Just like everything that it is to be human. Consciousness, emotion, pain, pleasure. All of these things at one time or another were mutations, adopted by natural selection due to the advantage they give.

    Being gay is no longer a disadvantage due to the wonders of science and surrogates. So even gays can have kids. Life is crap for all of us. if someone needs a willy up their bum to get through. let them do it. God lets them. Do you all know better then god?

      Jesus said he would fulfill. Mosiac law. In Leviticus homosexuality is a crime. Jesus also said let the anyone without sin cast the 1st stone. So my take is that Jesus considers homosexuality is a sin, but he will not stone you to death. He would tell you to go & sin no more. But apparently you don’t like the message.

      I do not disbelieve in god. But I equally do not believe. I’m open to god, believe me. But I cannot trust the word of man as my sole proof of his existence.

      From what I’ve read of the bible, Jesus by no means lived by the rules set out in the old testiment.

      Also its my belief that we are no where near mapping the entire human genome. So just because its not proven that there is or isnt a gay gene yet, does that mean that it cannot be true? And even if there is no gay gene. Does that make it less real? I like boobs, i don’t know why, i just do. Does that mean there’s a boob gene? Or is that different because that’s normal to you? What the hell is normal? It’s the great thing about the human race, the diversity. The multitude of beliefs, morals, ethics. If homosexualilty is a choice. Which it really isn’t. How is it anyone’s business what choice they make?

      Your proof of God is everywhere and in everyone of you that hate God. Your hatred of Him is proof of Him. Instead of passing by this story the anger rose up in you. You felt the need to try to slap God in the face for some thing you feel He let you down on as a child. On top of that you do not want to accept a creator because He then is the owner and a landowner has rules. Since you cannot move out you do the only thing you feel you can. You deny your maker and know that you are wrong. So everyday you feel the need to quiet the voice within and justify your stance to others in an attempt to feel better about your guilt.
      Each and everyday the voice gets a little louder and the need to speak out more comes. and over and over again. Round and round.

      Throughout the bible God uses the husband and wife theme as an example of the relationship between Christ and His Church. This is one way that homosexuality destroys what God intends for us to use as a way to better understand Him and our relationship with His Son.
      “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.” Ephesians 5:31-32

      Second; Homosexuality is just one of many “lifestyle” choices that separate us from God. I doubt that many thieves are praising and lifting up the name of God as they are breaking into a stranger’s house. The same is true about homosexual behavior, murder, adultery, lying, etc. and the bible calls these lifestyles sins. Living in sin means making lifestyle choices that we choose over the Christ centered lifestyle that God intends for us. Jesus doesn’t want to be just one lifestyle choice on a list of ten favorite lifestyles. Jesus wants to be number one on a list of one.
      The Christ lifestyle involves a true loving relationship unlike anything else the world has to offer. Satan doesn’t want us in that relationship so he mischaracterizes it as hate, intolerance, bigoted, and homophobic. Those who have chosen Christ as their only lifestyle are still flawed human beings, but the Christ that we are in a relationship with is perfect.

    I don’t understand how gays can make >50% of the new HIV infections & yet be less than 50% of the people living with HIV?

    Yet they claim their life expectancy is the same as straight people.

    Homosexuality is biological? Interesting notion. I was under the impression that biological traits were genetic, and were either for the purpose of survivability and continuance of the species or else a defect.. Homosexuality does neither. By this definition, if homosexuality is biological, then those who have this trait are genetically defective. Still wanting to claim it’s biological?

      Romans still talks about homosexuals no matter who you think it is written for. Paul spoke of being married instead of burning in their lusts. Do some word studies of the Greek and Hebrew. The men who brought out the woman were not doing so because of sexism. Women are referred to as the weaker vessel in the Bible and that is not to look down on them. It is a chain of command instituted by God. God over man, man over woman. It is that simple and for either side to take it any other way is not trusting in God’s decisions on the matter.
      Now I will just forget about your anger and get back to deliverance. Jesus cast out a spirit of infirmity from a woman double over for years that was in the temple daily. There were several by the gates of the temple. Deaf and dumb spirits and so forth. Mark 16:17 “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;” I was a heavy drinker for years before casting out a spirit of addiction from myself by God’s direction and grace.       I have seen people miraculously healed by God of many things. I am very humbled to have been used in some of them. God has healed me of several things. Having spoken with many psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists and so forth none of them will admit to curing or healing anyone. So why listen them. Just as an evolutionist hides the evidence of creation to support the liberal popular religion of evolution and the global warmist his.
      Why go to those that cannot instead of going to The One that created us? God wants us well. I am NOT talking about the health and prosperity movements. These are good people that have been infected by demons and pervert the Word of God. Satan uses and abuses these poor people to deceive and then discredit God, and does a good job of it. We are not to be ignorant of the devices of the enemy. He uses the same patterns over and over again. Learn his patterns and you will more easily avoid his pitfalls. I have worked in the deliverance ministry for several years now. Not wanting anything but to do the will of the Lord and help set people free. People want to thank me and give me credit and I immediately stop them. I give all credit to God and tell them to thank God because if it were not for God in my life I would not give them the time of day.

      Read the King James Version of the Bible. This with a Strong’s Bible dictionary/concordance. You will grow a larger library later.
      Before you open your Bible address God for who He is. Confess your sins, repent of them and ask for forgiveness. Ask God to send His Holy Spirit to teach and guide you and as always in prayer, ask in Jesus’ Name. The bible will begin to open up and speak to you. The Bible is so finely written and intricately woven we need the guidance of The Holy Spirit to teach us. The English language changes and has been changed to discredit the bible as well. To use a non-Bible dictionary you will have to get one that is an edition prior to 1611.
      DO NOT follow man maid doctrines or denominations. They have been perverted by the enemy and church splits have weakened and divided the Body of Christ.
      As for your personal attacks on me…I forgive you. I am a widower. My wife passed after complications from auto accident she was in seven years ago. I am not worried and know that God will provide me a wife of His choosing in His time. I do not have to worry about chasing after what may distract me from Him.
      Finally, do not confuse too much worldly info with the Word of God. Just as those that founded this nation, base your decisions on His Word and let Him lead you.

Many will point to the residual symptoms of the disease that you will still evidence at times as proof that you aren’t really cured.
      For those who understand the ravages of the S.I.N. disease and its terminal nature, the cure once properly applied will lead to the greatest joy known to man. Because of the proof in the joy and new found spirit of health that only comes from accepting the cure, you will be able to endure the harsh outbreaks and ravages that the disease brings to the world around you.

      The only cure for SIN if you haven’t figured it out is Jesus, and He is the great physician.

      If you want to argue from the standpoint of evolution then I would submit to you that being gay does not further the species. It is an evolutionary dead end. If being gay is biological is it a disorder? If not, explain how it fits in? Wouldn’t it tend to edit itself out of the species seeing how gay individuals would be less likely to reproduce?

      They have **proved** that it is a choice for a **proportion** of the LGBT community.

      The immediate gay response will be that those are the bisexuals that Kinsey spoke of.

      So if a person has money they do women but if they don;t they do men? That doesn’t looks like desperation to solve blue ball disease. I also bet you get more of this in polygamous societies. That would be in agreement with biologists observations of beta & alpha male’s proclivities based on social rank/pecking order. The alpha gets the harem & the losers/beta get each other.

      We need a fair society. Too many people are suffering. ~ 3% of the population is gay due no doubt to people having mistresses & such (Elliot Spitzer, Bill Clinton, other politicians, jocks & businessmen).

    Hijacked a word that meant happy.
    Hijacked the symbol that God would not destroy the earth again by a flood because man was living in debauchery.
    Hijacked a generation and swayed them to believe that it is OK to live as a filthy, immoral, debased, disgusting, heathen.
    Hijackings are done by terrorists. These sort are they.

      So True! God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because they were very wicked. homosexuality being one of the most prevalent. Notice that just before any “great” nation falls it first embraces homosexuality. (Rome, Persia, Greece, Babylon… next USA). God does not protect a nation that will not follow and uphold his Laws. God save us all!

      You are so right. When one truly comes to God, accepts and invites Jesus into their heart and is born from above they are selaed.
      When one is sealed they are under God’s umbrella of protection. When one that is saved willfully sins they step out from under the umbrella into the judgement of Satan, for we were already judged at Calvary.
      I am far from perfect and sin daily. I am also very passionate about God and His Word and cannot stand when someone speaks against Him. To speak contrary to His Word is to speak contrary of Him.
      I do not hate people and want to see others come to find the Lord as so many others have done.
      Pray for these I ask of you that are in Christ Jesus.
      And pray for our leaders, no matter how much the flesh wars against that.
