Charles Barkley Declares Palin Has ‘It’ — But GOP Won‘t Let Her Be ’Front Runner’

Thursday’s CNN American Morning featured a contradiction-filled interview with NBA Hall of Famer (and CNN employee) Charles Barkley.  (partial video after the jump)

CNN American Morning co-host TJ Holmes seemed to be joking when mentioning that he was nervous about welcoming the always unfiltered Charles Barkley into studio.  Apparently TJ knows that Sir Charles is quite fond of speaking his mind on myriad topics. Since today’s visit was no exception.

Barkley was appearing on CNN to push education for young children, especially black children.  There was no specific program attached to his visit.  No federally funded program to help keep kids in school, no CNN prime time special designed to teach kids the importance of a good education.  Just Charles Barkley rambling. His message to young people:

“I want them to stop looking at black jocks and entertainers as the only way to be successful.”

Charles went on to explain to us that we do have black doctors, black lawyers, teachers, firemen and policemen.   He supported this breaking news with another great revelation;

“There are only five real jobs in the world, teacher, fireman, policeman, doctor and someone working in the service.  Everybody else should just chill out and enjoy life.”

What?  Huh?  Didn’t we sort of learn that from the Huxtables back in the 80s?  I guess everyone else who works to make things, build things, sell things is not really working and should just chill out and enjoy life.

We did learn that Charles Barkley has decided against running for Governor of Alabama.  This decision had nothing to do with his chances of winning, but more to do with Barkley’s perception of the state of politics;

“It’s so corrupt now. That’s no fun, and nobody wants to go to work every day and argue.”

Besides, we all know that a career in politics is not one of the five real jobs in the world.  In fact,  Sir Charles has further defined Politics for us;

“Politics are rich people screwing poor people.”

And when it comes to politicians other than Barack Obama, the choices for President are very few:

“Sarah Palin has IT, but she’s not going to win.”  The Good Old Boy network is not going to let a woman be the front runner of their party.”

We also learned that;

“Twitter is for idiots.”

I guess Charles did not know about Twitter being used to get much of the information out of Iran during the anti-government riots following the rigged elections of 2009.  Were those people idiots? This brilliant statement was instantly tweeted by TJ’s co-host Kirin Chetry, going viral within minutes.

While talking about the possibility of his daughter graduating from college in the very near future, Barkley did seem to get very emotional mentioning that this would be the first Barkley to earn a college degree;

“To graduate from college is a great personal accomplishment.”

However, when pressed by TJ Holmes about his own lack of a college diploma and the possibility of returning to school to finish his studies that earn a degree, Barkley responded;

“I got too much money now.  If you can get 20 points and 10 rebounds (his personal NBA career average stats) you don’t have to worry about education.”

So in less than eight minutes we have come full circle.  From telling kids to stop idolizing black athletes and entertainers and to get an education and earn a college degree to letting them know that if they can just be like Charles, that education is not needed.

He was right years ago when he told us “I am not a role model.”

    I don‘t think I am a Palin fan in the sense that I don’t follow her TV show or read her books but do agree that she would be a great choice for President! I would vote for her because she is not a politician and would let the power rest with the people like it is supposed to be!!!

    I wonder how Payton Manning would be treated if he was pushing for better education for white children? Might be a bigger story, you think?

      if barkley wants to push for educating black children i applaud him. There is nothing wrong with 1. looking out for your own and 2. pushing for a group to become better educated so we don’t have to pay for them for the rest of their lives. I do agree that manning or a similar white athlete should not be criticized by pushing for white education but that isn’t the issue and i think its fairly obvious that white children often have a better opportunity than blacks. not all but too often and this country is based on opportunity

    You know what will be fun? Watching all these bubbleheaded MSM libs try to tear down Palin based solely on her choice of eye shadow or mascara. Rachel Maddow‘s only response to Bauchmann’s speech was to poke fun at technical glitches. These people have no serious response to real dialogue. Ridicule is the last refuge of the unenlightened.

    Sarah Palin may not be the “great speech maker, the one on one debator, but she has HEART, and cares about the direction of this country. That is what our country needs, not the politically correct, not the elegant speaker, but someone who has PASSION and HEART for AMERICA, as does Sarah.

    Our country needs this type leadership, that would surround themselves with the same Passionate, will to get back to our Constitution. Sarah would put in place a cast of leadership to help her, as would several other candiates for our next President!

    Obama needs a teleprompter, and has put a bunch of loosers in charge, Barney Frank, keeps his position, thanks, Freddy and Fanny, Van Jones, Rahm, the list goes on and on.

    We need conservative, God and our Lord Jesus Christ back in the schools, supporters of Israel in government!!

    I agree. Palin’s got it. Why? She’s authentic. Everyone is going to try to weigh whether she has this nuance or that. None of that amounts to a hill of beans. All the politicians with great nuance are worthless because none of them are trustworthy and count-on-able. Their purpose in life is to manipulate and control. What we need is an honest, trustworthy leader with integrity. If Palin sticks to operating from her straight talk, we will be just fine. If she makes a mistake, I think she would own it, clean it up and move on. She’s not like the CYA bozo we have in the Presidency now – who is just a horrible, couldn’t-be-worse President.

    OK, by all the holy political correctness in the good old USA, it is imperative that the first female President is elected as our next President. We had the “historical” first Black President, now we need the “historical” first woman President.

    Hillary tried her best in 2008, but being Black won over being female. Hillary won’t run again because the Left always discards their losers. I only see possible female candidates from the right. I literally can not think of even one female Democrat that could run for President. It will be hilarious that Sarah Palin wins the Presidency because it’s “politically correct” and “time” for our first female President.

    We women want a female as our President. We are tired of men running the World.

      Electing some one for office based on their sex is pure bigotry. You should be ashamed of your self. I would like to see M. Bachmann elected but it has nothing to do with her sex and everything to do with her views and honorable behavior. I find Ron Paul a far better choice though.

Would I want my grandchildren to hold him up as a model, no, but if he encouraged someone who needed a degree to further their American dream by getting his degree, that would be a good thing.
