The Blaze’s S.E. Cupp and Charles Blow Clash on Santorum Electability

There are tense and diverse opinions among media commentators and Americans right now on whether Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum is ‘electable.’ Some commentators have fumed in hysteric disbelief that Santorum may be the Republican nominee for president, others argue that polling shows his message is gaining support among the electorate.
Appearing on MSNBC’s “Jansing & Co” GBTV/The Blaze commentator S.E. Cupp debated the issue of Rick Santorum’s electability and actual message with New York Times columnist Charles Blow.
Blow argued that “Rick Santorum scares the bejesus out of people,” and compares him to former Delaware Republican candidate for Senate Christine O’Donnell, who was successful in the Republican primary but lost in the general
Cupp argued that support for Santorum has gone up as media attention shifted to social issues with the HHS ruling, and believes that Santorum can still be successful in the election moving forward if he “pivots” his campaign focus.
“He has to make the argument that the social issues, these moral issues are also economic issues,” Cupp said. “He can do that. I have seen him do it on the stump. He needs to do it on the national stage.”

Posted on February 29, 2012 at 8:41amSantorum is just spoiling GOP’s chances of taking the White House. He lost to Bob Casey in PA. Bob Casey is in Obama’s back pocket–never votes against Obama. PA is full of label voters—will vote Democrat even if the Dems are running Satan himself. I’ve never seen anything like it. Obama has all unions—Romney is our only hope—he is a good decent individual. He is not an Washington Insider. He may not be perfect but we aren’t destined to have a perfect candidate. Had Huckabee and McCain not joined forces in 2008, Romney probably would have won the White House then—instead we got Obama thanks to the likes of huckabee, mcCain and Palin.

Posted on February 29, 2012 at 9:01amTechlady1944, I ou100 with you 100%, there are a handful of us who realized this last election. However, we didn’t throw up our arms and go out and vote in protest to McCain and Huckabee, NO, instead, we accepted this was the way of politics and sadly, Romney wasn’t the kind of guy who would make these back room deals to get elected. I believe Romney recognized this as well. Actually , I am sure he did because he isn’t taking it this election cycle. HE apparently worked hard building up the large campaign he has now. He went out, supported many Republicans in their races, specifically McCain, who, by the way, clearly learned what a good man Romney really is as he saw how dedicated he was to helping him last election. Seriously, it was Sarah Palin who was the disaster, not that McCain could have won otherwise, but Palin was certainly not much help.
Report Post »I an so sick of the media , specifically Fox News, and also the conservative talk show hosts, never dealing Romney a fair hand. NO matter what he does, there is never supportive words for him. It seems as if Fox has been told to throw their optimism behind Santorum and/or Newt, knowing this will give them an inside hand in the White House. Or, Fox and folks like Limbaugh, know that if Obama loses, their ratings are going to go down. Obama has been the single greatest thing that has ever happened to these people. They don’t care if our country goes to crap, they will get rich along the way. Sickening, truley is !

Posted on February 29, 2012 at 11:34amTechlady1944 – With all due respect, you cannot see the forest through the trees. The only difference between Obama, Romney, Santorum, and McCain is the speed at which they will run us into economic ruin. They are all Progressives who believe in bigger government. Just what we need Romney and Santorum fighting about how they are going to fix the economy….WE DO NOT NEED ANOTHER PRESIDENT FIXING THE ECONOMY. That was never supposed to be their job. What we need now is a President who will get the Federal Gvoernment out of the private sector. Romney seems to think his work in the private sector gives him special clairvoyance to fix our economy. Bull, Ron Paul is the only one who truly has it right economically. Shrink the government dramatically and let Congress focus on its sole purpose…..protect our liberties and rights, PERIOD!

When the United States Congress passed the first federal law on this subject (the Militia Act of 1792), it defined “militia of the United States” not as the Continental Army or any other organized military body but rather as including almost every adult male in the United States. I was just listening to Mark Levin and he said that the Governor pushed for an open primary in Michigan. That it was Romney backers that pushed for an open primary (which they classify as a closed Primary, saying you have to declare yourself a Republican to vote)
Mark missed one very big thing which Rebel Pundit wouldn’t tell you because they shill for Santorum, the vote was 92 – 17 for a closed primary (registering as a Republican) instead of a Caucus which you could do the same thing – declare yourself a Republican at the door, or a Convention and shall I remind you of NY-23′s Convention which chose Dede Scozzafava the liberal Republican.
There were only three options allowed in the vote due to an earlier vote by everyone from activists and establishment. The 92 people that voted were everyone from government officials to activists.
So it is not so cut and dry as Mark Levin would tell you. The vote was chosen by a substantial majority of all those in the Republican party.
HE GOT IT WRONG AGAIN AND DIDN’T STATE ALL THE FACTS.

Posted on February 28, 2012 at 8:26pm@LUMBARSPINELESS (CONT) The rabid opposition to public religious expressions is often irrational, In fact, a New Jersey bill proposing that students begin each day by reciting the first 56 words from the Declaration of Independence was loudly denounced as “a thinly-veiled attempt to put prayer in schools” – the first step on the road to a – you guessed it – “theocracy!” Reading the actual wording of the Declaration of Independence leads to a theocracy??? It is time for that term to become anathema in public discourse.
During the Civil Rights Era, we gradually learned that if certain pejoratives were invoked, the individual doing so was a racist. Similarly, today we need to learn that when the emotive and pejorative term “theocracy!” is invoked, it is usually by an intolerant secularist who wants all public religious expressions expunged from society.

That same snobbishness is found in the educated elite circles (I know more than I would like), that somehow without a college degree or career you are not worth talking to. Posted on February 28, 2012 at 8:01pmLUMBAR SPINE No the second amendment doesn’t read that way.A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. It reads the right of the people to keep and bear arms. We can also have a militia.

She: Yes, he scares me to death.”
I was at a complete loss. “Scared?” These people have been brainwashed into thinking that Santorum is, well, I don’t KNOW what. Some kind of ogre? The Left & the MSM never let up. It is disgusting.

Posted on February 28, 2012 at 7:17pmRick Santorum would be comfortable establishing a theocracy in America. That ain’t gonna happen…but the thought of someone who believes that, running for President, is scary.

Posted on February 28, 2012 at 8:25pm@LUMBARSPINELESS In a recent letter, the writer took the same position as Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AU) and parroted AU’s offensive mantra, associating a theocracy or theocratic state with the “Religious Right.” Such claims are patently false. First, to have a theocracy in America, the Constitution must be replaced with a totalitarian dictator who speaks on God’s behalf (i.e., a revival of “the Divine Right of Kings” doctrine). I challenge AU, or anyone else to identify which part of the “Religious Right” is calling for such a government. Second, the “Religious Right” leaders (Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Jim Dobson, et. al) are calling for an increased respect for the Constitution and its actual wording, urging citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote. The real “crime” of these leaders is not that they want a theocracy (which they don’t) but that they rightfully want legislators to make national policy instead of judges. Should that occur, AU or groups like them could not win another battle, for Americans overwhelmingly reject their policies (e.g., “under God” in the Pledge – a phrase opposed by AU but supported by 87% of Americans). Posted on February 29, 2012 at 10:07pmNot sure what your point is, ed. I was simply pointing out that Santorum can’t win in a general election. If you take your heart out of supporting a candidate and look at the current state that our nation is in, it‘s easy to understand that Santorum can’t win. Does that make me a “hayseed hick” for making such an obvious observation? I would love to be labeled as a hick too because I envy country folk and their easy livin, but unfortunately I’m from Indianapolis.

If they help Santorum get the nomination, he beats Obama, what will Carville and the other Democrats say then as they’re jumping off the nearest bridge?…”
