After Charlie Crist, former Florida governor, used a Talking Heads song without permission during his unsuccessful bid for U.S. Senate, the band fought back in court over copyright issues.
The case has been settled:
Terms of the settlement were not released, but it included a recorded apology by Crist that was posted on YouTube Monday afternoon. Byrne had sued Crist for $1 million for using the song “Road to Nowhere” in a YouTube video attacking Marco Rubio, one of the governor’s opponents in the U.S. Senate race.
David Byrne, the founder of Talking Heads, gloats about Crist’s gratuitous YouTube humiliation:
It turns out I am one of the few artists who has the bucks and [guts] to challenge such usage. I’m feeling very manly after my trip to Tampa!….Other artists may actually have the anger but not want to take the time and risk the legal bills. I am lucky that I can do that. Anyway, my hope is that by standing up to this practice maybe it can be made to be a less common option, or better yet an option that is never taken in the future.

Posted on April 13, 2011 at 9:52amAs a former Florida resident, I applaud the fact that Charlie’s gone. By the way, why is John Boehner mocked all the time for his tan and Charlie is given a pass? Looks like the same shade to me. I’m sure it has something to do with the fact that he seriously sucks up to the Dems.

Posted on April 13, 2011 at 9:40amIt always amazes me when I see these political types who are supposed to at least be “aware” of the laws that govern this nation, just conveniently forget that we have copyright laws in this country. I deal with it on a daily basis with people who are creative and far from being legal experts and even they know better than to steal someone’s IP.

Posted on April 13, 2011 at 7:53amCharlie Crist needs to be hiding in a worm hole somewhere. He is one of the worst governors and a liar besides. Thanks to good ol’ Charlie we have higher and higher government costs in FL. He more than doubled the cost of drivers license and car tags. He needs to apologize for living.

Anyway, it’s good to see a politician squirm.

Posted on April 13, 2011 at 2:49amDude is like TOTALLY GAY….. and quite frankly is an insult to a few very nice gay people I know. Anyway, my sources tell me it’s the worst kept secret in Florida.
There’s got to be a song about being gay, but pretending you’re not gay, but all the time being like super gay. Which is the song he should have picked.

Close enough?

Posted on April 13, 2011 at 4:49amZAPH…since I can’t sleep….I think I have an even better Kinks song for Charlie…OUT OF THE WARDROBE……….a couple lines……’ Has anybody here seen a chick called Dick / he looks real burly but he’s really hip / he’s 6 feet tall and his arms are all brown and hairy ” ….” he’s not a common place closet queen / he shouldn’t be hidden / he should be seen / cuz when he puts on that dress / he feels like a princess” …….And Lola by the Kinks is about a transvestite….so there ya have it Zaph…depending on wether Charlie is gay , a cross dresser, or a tranny theres a kinks song for that. I should point out that the Kinks were 4 Christians ( as far as I know ) from England and wrote songs like ” God’s Children “, “ Scattered ” “ Village Green Preservation Society ” and other Christian / Conservative songs.
