Cheney Admits He Kept a Secret Resignation Letter as VP

Cheney Kept Secret Resignation LetterWASHINGTON (AP) — Former Vice President Dick Cheney says he had a secret resignation letter signed and stored in a safe for most of the Bush administration in case he became incapacitated.

Cheney says he signed the resignation letter in March 2001, just about two months after taking office. He says only President George W. Bush and one of the vice president’s staff members knew the letter existed.

Cheney says one of the reasons for having a resignation letter on hand was his history of health problems, including multiple heart attacks. He says the letter could have been used if he had been incapacitated by a heart attack or stroke.

Cheney discussed the secret letter in an interview with NBC News to promote the release of his memoir.

For most of Cheney’s term as VP, I wished that the roles had been reversed. Bush had the charm and flash to get them elected, but I always though Cheney was the smarter of the pair.

Dick Cheney will forever be remembered as the man that SHOULD have been POTUS.

I can’t name another person alive today that instills more confidence than this man. He’s probably the last of an extinct breed; men with stones, confidence, astronomical intelligence and good judgment.

I think if you combined all the cohones of every single liberal, they still wouldn‘t weigh a fraction of one percent the weight of one of Cheney’s. They despise him because people like him remind them of how spineless they really are. Rather than grow a spine, they just try to eliminate all reminders of their own spinelessness.

What a contrast to the sissy who now holds the office of V.P.

Cheney was smart? Maybe, a little. The fact is he is a one world order government guy who chaired the CFR. Therefor he should have resigned before being selected. GD one world government.

Totally agree with whoisthecoon – there’s alot of CFR guys running around washington.
Ron Paul is only one of the few who aren’t CFR members.

Cheney is a CFR guy – a one world’er. He would’ve been the same thing as Bush if he were prez – Bush was a CFR guy like his daddy.

They’re all corrupt and they will have to answer for that one day.

I guess most folks on here with positive comments about Cheney have no clue about his dealings with the CFR and what the CFR is all about – they are ignorant.

And the other sad fact is that they look at Cheney and Bush with beer goggles on. Because Obama is such a disaster they see Bush/Cheney as brilliant men in line with our founding fathers – which is an absolute joke. Those 2 charlatans weren’t remotely close to founding father principles.

      @Ming The Merciless

Actually, that’s not true. I have to thank the American people for electing Obama….I was a yellow dog Republican before Obama. I am learning things about Bush that I never would have thought about. During his presidency, there was only one thing I learned about that I didn’t like, and that was the super highway thing. My MIL (at the time) went into total denial, there was NO WAY Bush would be for that. Now I know there are progressives in both parties. Someone on here said it well. The difference between Bush and Obama is that Bush is a Nationalist Progressive, while Obama is a one world progressive. At least Bush was for America and our military, while Obama openly disdains both. Now, that said, it’s not much better. Progressive, even a Republican one, is not conservative.

I often thought it would be just like the Democrats to put Obama in office so we’d vote for ANY Republican, and then put up a progressive Repbulican who would do just as much damage, only slower. I’d vote for my dog over Obama.

Very, very few v.p.’s “get” the military and stand up for them. Cheney did. I think he was the best v.p. in my lifetime, he stuck to his guns and put up with more crap than anyone else has, in my memory. He was called names and everone just “knew” he released that woman’s name, even when it was proved he didn’t. Best of all, when he believed in something, he stood by it.

Also, check out recent pics of the guy, post-heart-surgery. Cheney’s dropped close to 50 lbs…. and wow, he looks either close to death or being The Sith Emperor from Star Wars that some of y’all feared he was.
