Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley announced today that he will not seek re-election in 2011, potentially opening the door for another familiar Chicago politician to seek the office of mayor. Daley cited “personal reasons” for his decision to step down at the end of his term.
“I have always known that people want you to work hard for them. Clearly, they won’t always agree with you. Obviously, they don’t like it when you make a mistake. But at all times, they expect you to lead, to make difficult decisions, rooted in what’s right for them. For 21 years, that‘s what I’ve tried to do,” he said. “But today, I am announcing that I will not seek a 7th term as mayor of the city of Chicago.
“Simply put, it’s time,” said Daley. “Time for me, it’s time for Chicago to move on.”
Former Illinois Congressman and acting White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has signaled his interest in running for the city’s executive seat. In April, Emanuel told CBS‘ Charlie Rose that he would support Daley if he sought re-election, but noted that if the mayor stepped down that he would like to fill his shoes. ”I miss the contact with constituents,” he said. “I miss… running the office, that touch with people.”
Daley, a Democrat, was on track to become Chicago’s longest-serving mayor, having held the position since 1989. ”For the next seven months, I assure you I will work as hard as I have for the past 21 years, for all the people of Chicago.” Daley’s father, Richard M. Daley, served as mayor from 1955 ’til he died in 1976. Democrats have uninterruptedly ruled the Windy City from the mayor’s office since 1931.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 11:18pmI would ask how a city could be so corrupted as to produce Daley Sr, Daley Jr, Obama, Rahmbo, etc but I’m stuck here in California and I realize that sometimes the inmates takeover the asylum.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 10:46pmDaley is insanely arrogant and corrupt – or should I say status quo for Chicago… One might think “thank God his time is done”, but not so much if Rahm is running.. After decades of corruption, Blago and this DISASTER named Obama, Chicago is definitely stupid enough to elect Rahm.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 7:21pmRahm will fit right in in that cesspool called Chicago. With what the people of Illinois and Chicago turn out for politicians, I have absolutely no sympathy for that place. My sympathy lies with with obvious conservative minority of that state who are stuck with liars, cheats, and thieves for politicians and union thugs who need to be taken out behind the barn and…

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 7:04pmIt’s just the regime maintaining its “coalition of power” in the direction they always preferred to go: down, to the city level. Where “victim” status is in abundance, and people vote with their emotions. If ACORN grew into the oak, then the cities were the fertilizer. Can’t go losing them now.
This whole thing started at the city level. They fought to the top, and are now trying to close the loop. The federal government is clamped down, we all know that. The only hope is at a state / city level, and they know it as well. They can’t get too far removed from the people, or we’ll start thinking and talking for ourselves…
So it looks like Daley did his time getting dirty. On to bigger and better things, no doubt. More money, social time, privacy, and personal freedom away from the “official” side of things. Up another rung. Time for Rahm to roll up his sleeves.
Honor among thieves.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 6:37pmDo you think Chicago is ready for some REAL HOPE AND CHANGE? Not the Obama brand, but a breath of fresh air from an ACTUAL good person who wants to make it a GREAT city to live in – without the daily threat of violence and fear?
Who am I kidding. Sorry… I was just day dreaming again. Gotta get another Red Bull or something!

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 6:31pmSounds like somebody got a…“nudge”. Maybe a “bump”. Maybe a “threat”. Just the Chicago way you know. Not worry Mr. Daley is laughing all the way to bank. TERM LIMITS, NO FREEBIES, OBAMA HEALTHCARE will fit your bill just like OURS. Most likely Mr. Daley, is thanking his lucky stars ( Gee thanks Maney, your my maaannn..) he doesn’t have to splain himself. Pathetic.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 4:49pmGood Lord, I hope the people of Chicago take this opportunity to elect someone that would actually make the attempt to turn the city around! As much as I’d like Rahm out of his current position as the bully czar, I wouldn’t wish his leadership on anyone.

HOWEVER.. RAHM can bend OBAMA’S ear and get some money for those that worship OBAMA and get in easily.. THAN when OBAMA loses in 2012 Rahm can give him maybe the GOVERNORS job.. LOL.. Now I have to move out of the state..LOL..

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 10:24amHaving lived in IL most of my life, you quickly learn the Governor has no power as any and all power comes from the Mayor of Chicago. We moved out of the state to IN, our taxes were half what we paid in IL for far more services and a far better quality of living. I vowed to not even shop in IL because their sales taxes were unreal. The Mayor and his family made the IL government totally irrelevant. I pary the citizens of the state have finally awoken to the reality all power comes from Chicago’s Mayor and they realize citizens now have the power to make a very serious decision! Come out of your “stupor” and join the real world of American!

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 4:49pmEllie, I like your comment. It’s just disgusting that these people just rotate their seats around the trough. When are the voters going to wake up and quit voting for these pigs! The Daley family has just raped and pillaged Chicago for years, no loss there. Rahm Emanuel would be about the worst thing to happen to that city, we already know what he’s all about. Dead Fish!
