The president of the popular fast food chain Chick-fil-A has ignited a social media firestorm after saying his company opposes gay marriage.
“Guilty as charged,” Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press when asked about the Atlanta-based company’s support of the traditional family unit.
“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that,” he said in the interview, posted Monday.
While Cathy’s comments are in line with Chick-fil-A’s history of espousing Christian values — its 1,600 chicken restaurants are closed Sundays — his remarks touched off a wave of anger on the company’s Facebook page.
“Disappointed in a company that believes in upholding the bible- except for ‘all men are equal in God’s eyes’. No longer a fan- and will no longer eat in your restaurants. Leave judgement to God and God alone,” read a post by Beth Hutter.
“Hate mongers! Never again! Not another $ from me,” Duke Richards wrote.
“One customer lost,” Nick Dialfredi posted simply.
But others rallied behind the company, writing messages in support of Cathy’s comments.
“Thank you Chick-Fil-A for standing up for family values! I will stand with you and support you by eating in your restaurants!” Tonia Sullivan Mahaffey posted.
Jennifer Wyatt Burgum wrote, “I love your food AND your values!”
Another supporter posted, “Thank you for all that you stand for and support. My family will in turn support your business wholeheartedly!”
In a statement to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Chick-fil-A spokesman Don Perry said the company does not want to debate the issue of same-sex marriage.
“The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect — regardless of belief, creed and sexual orientation,” the statement said. “We will continue this tradition in the over 1,600 restaurants run by independent Owner/Operators. Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.”
According to the Journal Constitution, the company also came under fire from gay rights groups last year after an independent operator in Pennsylvania supplied food to a group working to defeat pro-same-sex marriage measures.
Cathy acknowledged to the Baptist Press the company’s position was bound to be unpopular with some people, and possibly lose some customers.
“We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles,” he said.
One of those customers appears to be actor Ed Helms, known for his roles on NBC’s “The Office” and in “The Hangover.” Helms tweeted Wednesday, “Chick-Fil-A doesn’t like gay people? So lame. Hate to think what they do to the gay chickens! Lost a loyal fan.”

But Christians are too weak and scared to offend anyone to stand up for what they believe. We have gone from too offensive to not standing our ground and it is sickening. Our country is not in disarray because of liberals. it is in disarray because Christians are too afraid to stand up for what they believe in. When a company stands up Christians do not back it up very sad.

And the cops did… NOTHING… have you ever seen a conservative group do that?

One a significant proportion of gays are gay by choice. Hypothesis proven by economists.
What is your comeback? One of them is that there have been gays through out history.
There have been poor people ( economically disadvantage to you liberals) since the beginning of the agricultural revolution about 10,000 years ago. There have been bored aristocrats since that time who suffer from ennui or are all that & a bag of chips (Greeks & Roman elite). It is way of showing power (Greeks, Romans, Turks. Arabs). You make them your b____.
There have been many people affected by parasites since the dawn of history. They can alter their hosts behavior up to & including making them run into the jaws of death.
There is the confusion theory from psychology. But anything that would call into question sacrosanct “LGBT” dogma is VERBOTTEN!
Then there is genetics & epi-genetics. A person is not suppose question genetics either. Gay posters say LGBT is genetic & that is that (learned rhetoric form Dem Leaders like Pelosi?) They argue that LGBT is like sickle cell anemia, Tay-Sachs or some other genetic condition that we try to treat of genetically

“Well, not that I agree with the guy‘s opinions but he’s free to express them of course.”
That‘s because he’s here in America and not some Hugoville Socialist or Fascist utopia like where you grew up.
“The fact that Chick-fil-A has always been closed Sundays, when he could certainly have made more money by being open on Sunday says a lot.”
Yes, it says he can close on Sundays and still do very well. It also says that the Government can’t dictate his hours like in Hugoville or Castroberg.
“I could be wrong, but in making his statement I don’t think he calculated the business he might lose compared to whatever his business he might gain (although he‘s got enought money not to care one way or another I’m sure).”
I‘m sure he doesn’t give a rats behind about the economic theories of a third world wanna be history professor. Besides, his clientele most likely enjoy a family home dinner on Sundays. Something you might no nothing about.
“I kinda wonder why he didn’t say this ten years ago, but he just stated what his faith is telling him and I think that’s terrific.”
Probably because 10 years ago there wasn‘t much of an Internet or cable news and since it’s a Family business and runs off of “word of mouth” and not High dollar advertising it never occurred to him to go public with info that most all of his customers already knew.
Sorry, out of space.

“They’re an abomination.”
Definition of ABOMINATION from Merriam Webster
1: something abominable
2: extreme disgust and hatred : loathing
Some gays douche before going out on the town lest their partner/date meets their lunch. Are you saying that is not disgusting? It would be a very extreme position for you to say it is not.
“They have a mental disorder.”
The APA called it a mental disorder prior to 1973. I saw the pictures here on The Blaze of photos of LGBT & gay couplesbeing promoted by the gay community. After seeing the feminized men, all I could think of was atrazine & emasculated frogs.
“If we allow gay marriage, what’s next, humans marrying dogs?”
There is more bestiality than we care to admit. It might be one hundredths the size of the gay community but it exists. At least judging from news stories. Now the gay movement does not worry about the size of their community. If they don;t then why should other paraphiliac communities worry about theirs?
“I will NEVER accept them.”

Prime example of Christian “love.”
A lot of Christians cut their sons genitalia when they are born. Don’t you find it disgusting? To say no would seem an extreme statement from you.
So you like the APA when it comes to a conclusion you agree with and dislike the APA when it comes to a conclusion you disagree with? If the APA came out and declared the belief in a God a mental disorder or a delusion, you would then accept that your belief is a delusion? Don’t make me laugh.
Your “argument” for number 3 wasn’t even coherent much less based on anything of value.
Why should I accept religion? Religious people believe that two of every animal got onto a boat with humans and survived a world wide flood. It teaches downright lunacy and tells people they’re born evil and have to repent or face an eternity of torture.
You hate homosexuals and will never accept them.
I don’t hate religious people. I disagree with them on certain issues, but most of my closest friends are Evangelical Christians who accept the Genesis account the Bible as literal truth. They are teaching their 2 1/2 year old son that without Jesus, life is meaningless and that he was born a sinful child, but only through belief in Jesus can he hope to be saved from eternal damnation.
Despite all of this, I still love them all very dearly, and hold their children’s lives in higher regard then mine.

FROM WIKIPEDIA:
Report Post »Though hate is usually considered to be a negative emotion by philosophers, religious philosophers such as Saint Augustine and Thomas Aquinas maintain that it is virtuous to hate sin (i.e. vicious acts), but a sin to hate sinners as a whole. In the Summa Theologica, Aquinas writes: “Consequently it is lawful to hate the sin in one’s brother, and whatever pertains to the defect of Divine justice, but we cannot hate our brother’s nature and grace without sin. Now it is part of our love for our brother that we hate the fault and the lack of good in him, since desire for another’s good is equivalent to hatred of his evil. Consequently the hatred of one’s brother, if we consider it simply, is always sinful.”[1] Aquinas distinguishes clearly between hatred, anger[2] and wrath. In general, whereas Stoic philosophy viewed passions as opposed to reason

Posted on July 26, 2012 at 7:28pmI wonder, which Biblical defintion is he talking about?
Here’s a summary of different Biblical forms of Marriage:
1. Polygamous Marriage-Probably the most common form of marriage in the bible, it is where a man has more than one wife.
2. Levirate Marriage -When a woman was widowed without a son, it became the responsibility of the brother-in-law or a close male relative to take her in and impregnate her. If the resulting child was a son, he would be considered the heir of her late husband. See Ruth, and the story of Onan (Gen. 38:6-10).
3. A man, a woman and her property — a female slave The famous “handmaiden” sketch, as preformed by Abraham (Gen. 16:1-6) and Jacob (Gen. 30:4-5).
4. A man, one or more wives, and some concubines
The definition of a concubine varies from culture to culture, but they tended to be live-in mistresses. Concubines were tied to their “husband,” but had a lower status than a wife. Their children were not usually heirs, so they were safe outlets for sex without risking the line of succession. To see how badly a concubine could be treated, see the famous story of the Levite and his concubine (Judges 19:1-30).
5. A male soldier and a female prisoner of war
Women could be taken as booty from a successful campaign and forced to become wives or concubines. Deuteronomy 21:11-14 describes the process.
6. A male rapist and his victim-Deuteronomy 22:28-29 describes how an unmarried woman who had been raped must marry her attac

Posted on July 19, 2012 at 11:32pmPHILLYATHEIST, I am not a fan of ignorance either. That is why I am not a fan of yours. I firmly believe in the old saying, “It is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.” I may not like your opinions, however, I will vehemently defend your right to them. That is called free will. What the left is very good at is applying free will only to their opinions. If someone’s opinion does not match theirs, then it becomes a personal attack. Didn’t your mother ever tell you to play nicely with others, or were you one of those who had the infamous “Does not play well with others” on his kindergarten report card? By the way, I know of an excellent church in the Philly area. I will pass the word to them that there is someone in their community who is in need of prayer. That is the difference between the left and the right. The left calls names and wishes bodily harm or death. The right wishes the best for everyone. Maybe I should rephrase that. I consider myself to be on the right, and I wish the best for everyone. What do you wish for everyone? Think about that. Anger and bitterness do not go well with any personality.

they have their parades and such so they can stop being treated like second class citizens. i can’t fault them for that.
and please, plenty of Christians think lesbians are hot. not the butch ones, but the ones you can watch on the internets. i’m not in denial of lust, unlike my Christian counterparts. it doesn’t rule my life though.
as far as being disgusted, what’s wrong with that? all straight people can think the act of gay sex is disgusting, that doesn’t give us the right to deny them rights or treat them with contempt. i happen to be straight, but if i was born differently i’d certainly want to be treated fairly. i guess i feel empathy, something that seems to be lacking in the Christian faith.

There you go again, assigning the word ‘hate’ to those who simply disapprove of your behavior.
Report Post »So far as morality goes, when did it become immoral to openly express one’s disapproval of what one regards as bad behavior? As it happens, that is the very basis of civilized society.
I understand that liberals would prefer that all behavior be decided by politicians (i.e., the establishment of speech codes, ‘hate’ laws etc., etc.), but the bottom line is, just because what you want to do has found legal endorsement, don’t expect me to invite you to dinner at my house, nor should you expect me to embrace and even nurture your bad behavior. On the contrary, expect to be shunned and ridiculed.

Report Post »Troll, I am not sure where you get “hate” out of the chic-fil-a statement. It’s not hatefull to disagree with a differing opinion. Hence freedom of speech. If you want everyone to agree or else- i suggest you move to a country that has a theocracy or dictatorship. You might also receive a better idea of “rights”. Marriage is not a right, the government has incentivized a privalidge. I could go on but I’m going to save it for another time. The point is that the argument is about a lot more that whether someone is for or against gays. I have no problem with gays and have many friends that are gay, but I don’t necessarily support “gay marriage” as most are thinking of it. I say scrap it for all, go with a contract and leave “marriage” for churches/ religions or whatever to decide individually.
