Chilean Miner Admits in ‘60 Minutes’ Interview: We Considered Suicide

It‘s an eerie picture of what goes through one’s mind when death seems imminent.

In an interview that airs Sunday on “60 Minutes,” one of the rescued Chilean miners from October admits the group contemplated suicide. According to him, there was discussion of starting an engine below ground and asphyxiating the group:

“I said to a friend, ‘Well, if we are going to continue suffering, it would be better for us to all go to the refuge, start an engine and with the carbon monoxide, just let ourselves go,’” Zamora, one of the workers interviewed, told Bob Simon.

The miners, you might remember, spent over two months trapped beneath the earth.

Watch the full “60 Minutes” interview Sunday at 7 pm ET on CBS.

    60 Minutes bites…but I admire those miners. Miners do very hard work and risk their lives almost every day.

    Ok lets see….I’m trapped underground with little or no food, toilet, light and see no hope and I consider suicide….this earth shattering news from the show that is going to air a “Lady Gaga” interview before the Grammy’s. I have watched 60 Minutes for the last time.

      @Spankdamonkey

      I could not imagine being trapped in a living death like those miners, the ultimate nightmare come to life for anyone in the world.

      As to the censorship claim, I have to guess that in part it comes from a counterfeiter having run amok on the sight about a month or more ago. They kept imitating several of the screen names of the people here and making false postings – my screen name among them. The Blaze staff was on top of it once people started reporting the false posts and security most likely has tightened up since that time.

      So, extra censorship? Not likely, more likely it is extra security placed upon the sight.
