Although students in Des Moines, Iowa, may have griped about school bus evacuation practices in previous years, they were glad for their training Monday when,on the way home from school their, bus exploded.
Two students not on the bus busted out the back window to let the others out to safety. All 16 students on board and the driver got out alive.

Posted on August 26, 2011 at 2:24amIf there were any minority children on this bus, you can bet your asses that the whole incident would have already been under investigation by the FBI and the Justice Department. This incident, although not deadly, did not involve any of “Obama & Holder’s People™”.

Posted on August 26, 2011 at 1:10amOh noes. Busses are dangerous. It is time to make them all illegal now. This was a close call and we can’t have children in such danger. Time for regulations and banning…right now.

Posted on August 26, 2011 at 1:03amI think i know what caused the fire. First a lot of bus are made in Mexico, and they leak, and their wiring is cheap. So that could do it, water gets in, shorts out bad wires, and then you have smoke from the front end of the bus, and that is what they say happen here, and then fire.

Posted on August 25, 2011 at 7:41pmI never had a practice school bus evacuation drill my whole primary and secondary education. Watching that, I wish I had. If something like that had ever happened on my bus, I’m sure lots of people would have died.

Posted on August 25, 2011 at 9:08amAs a parent of a child on the bus I thank GOD everybody made it out OK. It took only minutes before the bus was fully engulfed in flames.
Report Post »Because the fire spread so quickly I fear the outcome may have been different if this happened 1hr later when the same bus transports the kindergarten through 5th graders from school.

Posted on August 25, 2011 at 1:12amThe explosion came long after the fire start. I’m going to guess overheated brakes.

Posted on August 25, 2011 at 12:21amI wonder what exploded. It wasn’t the fuel tank. Buses run on diesel, and you can hold a cigarette lighter directly to diesel fuel and it won’t ignite.

Posted on August 25, 2011 at 12:43amDangers of Tire Sealants with Explosive Gas
Report Post »While trying to fix a flat, many tire workers and others can be blinded, maimed, or even decapitated when the tire explodes. Most of these tires had been previously filled with a can of tire sealant to fix a leak in the tire. The propellant in the tire sealant often times contains the butane & propane. When an ignition source is present a massive explosion is possible.

Posted on August 25, 2011 at 12:48amBet I could get diesel to explode…how do you think a diesel engine works? Explosions. Granted, by different means, but still…BOOM. That and tires probably explode when they get torched.

Posted on August 25, 2011 at 12:51amIndeed, what started the burning? Still though, it is a good deal to hear the kids and the driver got out without harm coming to anyone.

Posted on August 26, 2011 at 1:02amDo we know for sure that this was a diesel bus? My first thought when I saw the explosion was compressed natural gas. I can’t imagine that a tire would have caused the fire ball that followed the explosion. (But, I’ve never seen a tire blow out on a burning bus, so maybe it was the tire.)

Posted on August 25, 2011 at 12:58amDiesel engines DO explode!! My husband parked his semi where he worked to drop off his paperwork and within about 3 minutes the cab was engulfed in flames…due to a spark from the electrical system. Thank God he was in the office at that moment or he would have burned alive. The truck burned up in less than 5 minutes…it ran on diesel fuel and that was what exploded. Don‘t say it can’t happen cause it can!!

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 11:04pm“2 boys came and busted out the back door so we could get out” “thankfully we train these children from when they are 5 to evacuate”. Ok every schoolbus has a rear door, on those rear doors is the release handle with a BIG arrow and the word PULL yet with all of this “training” they could not even follow the simple sign. 2 boys had to come and break out the rear window? Granted kids are not the best at recalling the true story, but if it is true then come on really? Pathetic. You need to slap the I-phone down and make them pay attention.

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 11:49pmLOL….Really?? People who make fun of those who talk about a scary situation they were just in are usually are people who couldn’t handle the situation in the first place. When you make fun of children who talk about a hero…well that says something about your character…no character at all!!
Report Post »Next time your car engine blows up…don’t expect any special attention if you open your door…it’s a given…RIGHT???

Posted on August 26, 2011 at 1:11am“Next time your car engine blows up” Seriously? “Next time your car engine blows up”? Anyway, I would guess that they actually did open the rear door and it was just kids not able to describe it accurately (understandable) and poor reporting by the TV station (inexcusable). It would have taken a long time for kids to climb out of broken windows.
