China Demands US ‘Cure its Addiction to Debts’

China blasted the U.S. after S&P downgraded its credit rating Friday, demanding it confront its "addiction to debts." (AP File Photo)
BEIJING (AP) — China, the largest foreign holder of U.S. debt, demanded Saturday that America tighten its belt and confront its “addiction to debts” in the wake of Standard & Poor’s decision to downgrade the U.S. credit rating.
China currently owns $1.2 trillion of U.S. Treasury debt, the largest stake of any central bank. The commentary carried by the state-run Xinhua News Agency was Beijing’s first official response to the S&P decision.
“The U.S. government has to come to terms with the painful fact that the good old days when it could just borrow its way out of messes of its own making are finally gone,” Xinhua said.
It said the rating cut would be followed by more “devastating credit rating cuts” and global financial turbulence if the U.S. fails to learn to “live within its means.”
“China, the largest creditor of the world’s sole superpower, has every right now to demand the United States to address its structural debt problems and ensure the safety of China’s dollar assets,” it said.
Xinhua said the U.S. must slash its “gigantic military expenditure and bloated social welfare costs” and accept international supervision over U.S. dollar issues.
Last month, China’s top general, Chen Bingde, also linked America‘s financial woes to its military budget and asked whether paring back on defense spending wouldn’t be the best thing for U.S. taxpayers.
Such comments reflect Beijing’s desire that Washington reduce its military presence in Asia. The U.S., rattled by China’s military buildup, also routinely chides Beijing for its fast-growing defense spending.
Xinhua also suggested a new global reserve currency might be necessary to replace the dollar, a position China has frequently advocated.
“Mounting debts and ridiculous political wrestling in Washington have damaged America’s image abroad,” Xinhua said. “To cure its addiction to debts, the United States has to re-establish the common sense principle that one should live within its means.”
Jitters over the U.S. handling of its debt problems were also being felt elsewhere in Asia, said Kishore Mahbubani, Singapore’s former ambassador to the United Nations.
The dean of Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew School for Public Policy said the last-minute agreement by the U.S. Congress to lift the debt limit and avoid default has policymakers in Asia questioning the stability of U.S. global leadership.
“It’s definitely undermined U.S. credibility,” Mahbubani said late Friday. “Everyone is wondering if you have such a dysfunctional political process, how can you provide global leadership. It’s very dangerous for the world.”

China is demanding, no longer warning, we cure our spending addiction; and this coming from a true communist socialist state that Obama wants to turn us into.
The equation with China is pretty simple in regards to the amount of our debt they hold; We need to have China, they do not necessarily need us on the same level of codependance.

I recently had to buy a washer & drier. I told the salesman I had only ONE requirement: they had to be made in US! I paid a little more, but I got them! We must ALL STOP BUYING ANYTHING MADE in CHINA! Period! I even avoid buying any product not made in a “democratic” country.

Becoming isolationist is NOT NECESSARY, and is counter-productive. YES, our companies should stay in America, but we also shouldn‘t be burdening them so hard with taxes and regulations such that they run to other countries where they’re more free to do business.
As for whether to buy things from other countries, there’s nothing wrong with trade between willing countries, as long as we respect each others’ national sovereignty.
And it‘s not like we can’t reverse engineer what we buy from other countries (and vice versa), so there’s no reason to think that buying foreign products would hurt our economy in a free market – unfortunately, what we have instead is a Corporatist / protectionist market which burdens the private sector.

We need to elect more fiscal conservatives into office like Rubio, Bachmann and Paul. It will take time to get enough of them in and pass the legislation and this is why it is our duty if we want the country to prosper, to pass the word, educate people that are confused, wake people up that are asleep and get them involved. 2) Return to and adhere to the list of Congressional powers in Article 1, Section 8 of our Constitution. (Disband all government offices and departments that are not listed)
3) Use the savings to pay off the debt and then drop taxes to reflect the proper amount of government.
4) The reduced taxes will be spent by the citizens and create another great economy.
The free market works, when it is allowed to.

Boehner and Cantor wimped out when they had a chance to dig for real reform. The 2.4 commission is not about cuts it’s about “savings.”

Boehner and his status quo RINO’s caved and all we got for certain was a new Super Committe, another increase in the debt and zero budget cuts. My Republican Senator was quoted as saying something to the tune of “This was not the best bill, but the best bill we could get”. Well I would say their best bill was a huge failure.

If they don’t continue to grow at an unsustainable rate their people will revolt. We need to quit stabilizing them and start stabilizing us. I saw the other day that GE (Jeff Immelt, Obama’s buddy and leader of his jobs council) is moving GEs Medical division to China. WTF? Now one of the giant progressive ideas is passing more free trade agreements. We can‘t and won’t compete with workers that make $5 a day. We need to quit trading with countries that have an unfair advantage. Not to mention that China is currently pumping out enough pollution to choke the entire world, and they don’t care. Obama and the progressives want us to be in the same crappy boat as the Chinese workers. I, for one, don’t want to be a slave to Obama or the Chinese. Today, Obama called for more spending and higher taxes. Apparently, hitting him in the head with a 5 pound sledge hammer isn’t enough. And, according to GB, they’ve started printing money again.
